And with New Year's around the corner, take the time to reflect on the season. what was your single greatest accomplishment? What did you learn? For the new peeps, I post the race question every Wednesday so you can start thinking about your plans and to get you excited. There is usually a second question for those of us on the sidelines. I'll kick it off since everyone else seems to be in a Christmas Food coma or enjoying Boxing Day! Single greatest accomplishment was breaking my '08 10K PR, not once, but twice on courses that were far harder. Knowing I am a faster runner than when I was just a runner is a great feeling. I was hoping that my single biggest accomplishment was to break into the 12s in IM WI, but it was not to be. During that race and the days to follow, I learned that you cannot plan for everything and sometimes you need to work through what is handed to you, dust yourself off and start anew. |

I have worked hard to get where i am and dont want to loose what i have. In 2011 I did several 5ks,10K,10 miler, and a sprint with little training. Then i just stopped doing them in April 2012. I started P90X and completed it in August. Since I completed P90X I havent been motivated to exercise. I was telling my instructor about this and he said to try Tri's so here I am. I was under the impression I would be traing with him, but that hasnt happend yet. I think we will start traing at the beginning of the year but will have to wait and see if that happens. Family: Married with A 4 year old daughter (Baylie) and a son on the way (Logan) Training: I am currently trying to run bike and swim as much as the time allows. I try and do 4 rides a week. I try and Swim for 30-45 mins. I want to run 4 times a week but usually only get in one 30 min run. I can do 10-15 hours per week(unless life gets in the way) 2012 Races: 10 miler and a few 5ks but none sense March. 2013 Races: HIM Augusta Sept 2013, couple of Sprints Several 5ks and the 10 miler again Weightloss: Always a struggle!! I am about 215 and would like to get to about 185-190. This is why I put myself through this. It is a roller coaster and I am trying to not let it happen again!!!!

I used to really hate to run but needed to do something to lose weight. After a few months of consistency I began to crave to run and was almost jelous when I would drive by others running. I ran a 1/2 marathon with my friend, not official just me and him through some trails he knew. Not long after that in January of 2012 I tore some obliques running in the ice (that wasn't smart, but I hate treadmills). That sidelined me for about 3 months and then when I started back up I developed some bad plantar fasciitis. I have been trying everything to fix that, stretching, insoles. I have come to the realization that I can either give up on running or deal with the pain. It won't kill me just make me uncomfortable. So I am ready to start training again. I live in Dupont, Wa and love to run the trails. STATUS: Married 16 years and we have one daughter 6. TRAINING: Just getting back into the running. 2012 RACES: None 2013 RACES: IDK WEIGHTLOSS - Current 195ish looking to hit 170. |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Happy Boxing Day! We're celebrating by loading all of the children into the car and driving into a storm. Should be some boxing in the back seat. Hoping to find great snow in Tahoe, have some great skiing and boarding, and get everyone home uninjured. Not racing. 2012 was tough - torn soleus in April (Boston) broken toe in June(Hawaii). Swimming was less than 25% of 2011, bike was at about 40%, running was close at 90%. 2013 will be all about racing with family and friends, and having an IM finish that starts with 12. Who let all these PNW peeps in? Sensing a bias here..... |

For the new peeps, I post the race question every Wednesday so you can start thinking about your plans and to get you excited. There is usually a second question for those of us on the sidelines. I'm going for a little 50k run in the woods on Saturday. Hubby was supposed to be going too, but he's on the "injured list". It's finally snowing here, so it looks like it will be a beautiful race day. The forecast keeps changing, but it looks like it will be in the upper 20s - low 30s. My goal is to finish in under 7 hours and with all of my toenails still attached. It's a two loop course, so my strategy is to go easy on the first loop, walk up any hill that I can't see over. The second loop will be about managing the discomfort and not giving in to the temptation to walk too much. It's going to be important to manage my nutrition and my body temp. I feel very prepared to make it to the finish line--nothing to prove, just finish in good form. If you get a chance, check out the website from the race. They have a couple awesome video clips from last year's race (unprecedented rain in the days before the race). Shouldn't look anything like that this year. I'll answer question #2 after the race |

What is up with all of these people from the NorthWest? Did Birdy (Steve) pay you to join? I am a former PF'er. It can be healed, but if you continue to run on it without treating it I guarantee you will be on the sidelines for good. I tried zillions of things before doing prolotherapy and then taping at night and for every single run until it vanished. I taped for 2 years, but it worked. Now I am dedicated to stretching the calves and rolling the soleus. Kim is also a PF survivor. When she is back to the MG I am sure she can give you some good advice on how to help it! |

I currently tape before every run and stretch like crazy. Check out this link. It works well for some people, including me, but not for others. It basically is an injection of sugar water that causes inflammation in the area to speed healing. I think the key is finding the right doctor to do the injections. Where the doctor injects it matters. It took me 3 sessions spaced several weeks apart to really feel like it was making progress. The taping allowed me to continue to train while I got the injections. |

I learned that experimenting with different nutrition was well worth it. |

For the new peeps, I post the race question every Wednesday so you can start thinking about your plans and to get you excited. There is usually a second question for those of us on the sidelines. Well, I don't have any races this weekend. But I will be starting my final 12 week push for my first sprint. I have a plan that I wrote up and will start it on Sunday. Gotta find my mojo again. Been eating too much and slacking on training. I will weigh myself tomorrow am to see what the damage is. Ugg I would say my single greatest accomplishment this year was learning how to swim. I am not very good at it yet but I can do it now. Secondly, I finally learned how to find some balance with training through tri training. When I was only running, I pushed too hard and always hurt myself. Now with tri training, I can back off running when needs be and fill in with cycling or swimming. Can't wait to hear about everyone's upcoming races! That will help inspire me! |

However, Michelle and I spent today picking out a race for January (an Elvis run) and also strategizing on the first Tri we can get into prior to Chelan. I would say my single greatest accomplishment so far is cutting my time for the 5ks about 4 minutes from my first race to my last. I am hoping to continue doing so. If only I will be so good at swimming. |
