Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My coach chickened out and decided NOT to have us do an 8000IM this weekend. I am very disappointed. You do not just give me a challange like that and leave me hanging! I am going to swim it regardless, even if I do it by myself! I am hoping to get a ride to the pool this friday, when I don't have swim practice, to do it. If I can't get a ride, I will swim it some other time. Either way, I am doing it! ![]() |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello All from super cold Iowa....below zero baby! Just got back from Bike Club Meeting...somehow I got voted into a role this year! Just a note that I haven't been checking my comments on the log so I didn't mean to ignore everyone over the past week. I think this system can do so much...I'm just a little slow! I had a day off today...hitting the pool in the AM and run in the PM after work. Probably on the treadmill since it's freezing here. T Dog |

Does anyone (Bob) have tips on swimming? I liken swimming to golf, I play golf very good when Im not thinking about my swing. Right now when I swim I am think so much about my form my times are WAY off. Any help via tips, dvd's??????? Thanks David |

![]() | ![]() I felt the need to run at lunch time today. I walked more than ran because my shoes are now starting to hurt me. My left arch is giving me a problem. Its hard to keep running but I am hoping its because of a new shoe and just an adjustment to my already bad planting of my foot in the wrong shoe. I am also feeling myself land more at the ball of my feet and not so much on my heel. This would explain my front shins hurting just slightly this week. I felt the pain begin last week when Dave and I were running on the beach. To relieve the discomfort I drank a beer, just kidding, I turned around and walked backwards for a bit. What a way to start a new season! I think I like my long recovery period a whole lot better If this keeps up then I won't be ready for a half in February like I'd hoped. |

![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Good morning! Today I think I will try and bike or run. Bike if I can get out of the office at a decent time. Run to practice relaxing my toes when I land on my feet. I don't plan on doing miles and miles, that will be tomorrow. I will probably just do a 5k. That should be plenty of practice time. I should even do skipping. Why would we skip to practice our run stride? |

Does anyone (Bob) have tips on swimming? I liken swimming to golf, I play golf very good when Im not thinking about my swing. Right now when I swim I am think so much about my form my times are WAY off. Any help via tips, dvd's??????? Thanks David Hey David!! Nice job on the swim. The best thing I can tell you about thinking about your stroke is try to focus during 5 or 10 minutes of drills at the beginning of a workout. After that just let yourself swim. As in golf, staying relaxed is the key to efficient swimming. The only thing I think about after the drills is my stroke count. I get a little obsessed with my stroke count and count them about every other length. If you can count your strokes per length every 200 yds or so that is direct feedback on how efficiently you are swimming. If your stroke count goes up, lengthen your stroke out. I hope this helps. |

Thanks David I've also read on here that when swimming you either do it for time, or do it to practice your stroke/form. Back when I did swim, if I was doing drills I didn't even bother with splits, I just logged overall time. Trixie: Swimming is what people do at that big rectangular thing filled with water and they....[oh, nevermind] |

Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Keep the drill part of your workout to no more than 10 minutes and try to work on one or two specific drills. This should help keep the focus on that part of the stroke that you are doing the drills. After the drills are done, swim your workout and forget about the drills. The improvements in your stroke will come in time. I am going to try and take some videos this weekend of different stroke drills and post them on my blog. Keep an eye out! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Howdy Ho Sports Fans. My legs are finally coming back under me after last weekend. For those who didn't know, I ran the Goofy Challenge at Disney last weekend. 5k on Friday, Half mary Saturday, and the full Marathon on Sunday. 42.4 miles. 8:07 total run time. With that behind me, I get to look forward to my tri season training. Bob; I know, I know: "Time to get in the pool". |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() GOOOD MORNIN' STOCK'NAM. Got in a lunchtime 2500 yd swim and I feel pretty good. It was chilly (I leave to your own visualizations) but a good workout none the less. I can feel a slight burn in the lats, right where I want it baby. I plan to try to get in a trainer ride tonight after the 2 year old hits the hay. We will see about that. Along those lines, here is a question. How many of you use your tri bike on the trainer vs a road bike? Overall, how much training do you do (% wise) on your tri vs road bike? I have both, yet I don't have an extra set of wheels for my tri bike (tri spoke carbons on there that I dont want to get physical with). I guess I could switch the wheels from the road to the tri and use it for some spinning, quite a puzzle to me. Any thoughts? Lastly, I see that the Chi Running dude is having a seminar in Hotlanta in April. Anyone attended before? Any thoughts? Any thoughts on me going 1 month before 1st HIM? |

![]() | ![]() I use my Tri bike with my Eastons instead of my race wheels when I'm on the trainer. I keep my Eastons on until it's close to race day then I switch them back unless it's forcasted for a windy day then I keep my Eastsons on.

You should consider a roof rack.... those are nice bikes to be carried like that... they get banged and lose and the whiles twisted... Besides if somebody rear ends you... you will have a problem.... I got a Yakima roof rack and it is just amazing... |

![]() | ![]() I already have a roof rack. That's my friends rack. I like my rack because it can also carry a Christmas tree!! I'll be ordering a 3rd tray soon. I seem to carry 3 bikes with me sometimes. Transporting on a gizmo like that only takes skill to keep them from banging. And we can't control all situations. I would take someone rear ending me as an excuse to upgrade my bike ;) ![]() Edited by tbatt 2008-01-16 5:44 AM |

As long as you have personal property insurance on the bike, it's someone else's fault if your bike gets damaged. |
