Sensei ![]() | ![]() Sprint_DA - 2008-07-28 2:55 PM lvthgme - 2008-07-28 4:49 PM Sprint...I thought about you this weekend after my tri.
1. I will do race report sometime soon. Work was CRAZY today. But...I thought about you training some with that chickie and I did that with my friend who was going to do her first tri...but then she didn't and I had SEVERELY undertrained and boy...did it cost me. Bad idea. 2. I haven't ridden my actual bike much. The tri shorts I wore are shorter than my actual bike shorts. I have bike bag under my seat and it rubbed my upper leg RAW during the ride. Kills. 3. I'll HTFU now. =) Thought about me after your tri this weekend? That had to be an interesting situation. her bootie was sore and she thinks of you? IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIInteresting...... |

I'm just really turned off by all competition at the moment - at least the athletic variety. Dunno why. It's just money - I have skipped many a running race in the past. Your happiness is what matters most - so if it's not enjoyable, you are making the right choice by quitting.... Besides, lack of training doesn't anyone from posting on BT or TAN! We have seen plenty of cases of that! so don't forget about us. True. I just don't know what I want out of life right now. I don't mind running to FINISH something... my attitude is slowly shifting that its more important to enjoy the experience than to beat some goal that really means nothing in the context of the universe. Better late than never... |

Good idea or bad idea: Having a pro bike fitting the day before a race? BAD Even changes for the better are changes, and your body will need time to adapt. I would ride on the existing setup. However, how long is the race? If it's a sprint, you may be fine if not just a little sore from the new set up. Just my 0.02 Fair enough. Guess I'll do it another time. The race is a Sprint with a 13mi bike course. I'm not having major problems right now, this is just the one trip I'm planning on taking to Chicago this year with the bike, and as such, one of the few times I can go somewhere and have an actual bike fitting done. I want someone to do it who is using measurements and formulas instead of what I've seen people do out here (in Davenport) which is, "yeah, that looks about right, now you could probably move that X cm and still come out about right." Wait, you going to Chicago this week? I thought you weren't going to go until after you tris? My tri on the 10th is in Chicago. Oh. For some reason I thought you meant this Saturday. It's confusing when you go ahead and schedule so many races. I didn't realize that was where "Naperville" was. Are you going to drive out there with K? |

I'm just really turned off by all competition at the moment - at least the athletic variety. Dunno why. You need to tell me who you hang out with, so I can avoid them. I don't feel ANY kind of competition except what I put on myself. No one is going around telling me they are going to kick my arse, or kill my time or anything. Even if I did know someone that did do that to me, they wouldn't be friends for long (unless they were doing it in a kidding manner). I'm actually getting more of a kick out of running now that I no longer run for time goals. I'm more focused now on managing how I burn energy during a race. Really I should be focusing on writing - and not here in TAN There you go - pursue your strengths. Edited by Aikidoman 2008-07-28 5:02 PM |

I'm tired of bleary eyes by 2:00 in the afternoon. I got my new glasses this afternoon! It's so nice to be able to read again. Good luck, I understand the importance of functional eyewear. |

Well, we're staying at her parent's house, so I hadn't thought that needed to be said. Now it turns out that they may not be there that weekend, which means it probably does need to be said. My plan for the drive out there is to burn an mp3 cd with all the punk & country music I have on my computer to listen to, thus making her not want to talk. Then Friday I'm planning on going to my friend's place on the North side of the city, just to hang out. Which only leaves Saturday, which is packet pickup, but she has to go get fitted for a bridesmaid's dress and (and before you ask, she seriously told me this) "You can come along if you want, it should be fun!" Yeah that's definitely my idea of fun. That's when I was going to schedule the bike fitting. So I could say "Great, I've got a fitting then too." |

I don't mind running to FINISH something... my attitude is slowly shifting that its more important to enjoy the experience than to beat some goal that really means nothing in the context of the universe. Better late than never... Well, I just read this WSJ article about this "Iron Mom" that's doing this adventure race that took her team 10 days to finish, and it was TOTALLY POINTLESS and self-indulgent. Its not like they raised money for anything (at least from how the article was written), it seems to be about suffering with no other purpose but to suffer. There are a lot of people with S&M streaks in endurance racing, I guess. Its like some of the guitar shredders (and I've put up a shredding video so I shouldn't talk) on You Tube. Yeah, dude, you're fast, but where does it all go? I don't really understand the relationship to be honest.... Maybe they were just enjoying the adventure? Maybe it was totaly pointless to you, but maybe they had some internal battle? Some struggle against an illness or fear (just speculating). Just about everything in life is self-indulgent, no? I'm wouldn't want it any other way.... We try to find a partner so we feel loved and feel good. Or it feels good TO love someone. There is every form of intertainment and passtime. We seek out quality food to eat, etc.... Life is short - make the most of it. Enjoy yourself, and get out of the things you DON'T enjoy. In this case, maybe it's racing.... Stick to guitar, writing, and your kids. Seems like you always have positive things to say about them and only negative about triathlon and racing. Seems kind of obvious where you should focus your attention to me.
