My weekend is mainly going to consist of deciding whether it's going to warm up (it was -14c/7f last night and is currently -7c/19f) to go outside. If it does (or I decided to see if I own enough layers) I'll be doing yesterday's short run which had to be cancelled and tomorrow will be a 50min run and a swim in the afternoon.

Good thing about this freezing weather is that, for some reason, people don't go to the pool and it's nice and empty .

Your a braver man than me lol. Are you in London Ontario, or England?

tasr - 2012-02-11 12:42 PM

Stavros ( ) you are getting some crazy winter weather this year.

btw Stavros is in England part of the UK.

James is Right, I'm in the U.K. The weather has been a bit weird this year in that we've had an unusally mild Dec/Jan averaging around 10c (usually around -1c for Dec and anything down to -10c for Jan) and Feb has so far been colder than normal (usually around -1c to -5c).

Finally got the run done as it warmed up to -4c .

I love a recovery week! 6 miles on the treadmill felt like it was over before it begun. Well, not quite but close. 10 degrees out and very windy this morning so I didn't even think twice about running outside. Going to have to hope for a quick warm up and a big dose of HTFU soon though. Next two weeks miles are at 11 and 12 and I'm not sure my brain can handle a treadmill that long. Decided to do a little swimming after, very little. But the good thing was it felt pretty good. I need to start kicking the swimming and biking up. I'm having some difficulties balancing the need to start going long and harder again against the possibility of burn out setting in with a very long Tri season ahead of me. IMAZ towards the end of November is still a very long way away. Have a great weekend everyone!

Got my 4 hour ride in.  Talked a friend into riding with me.  According to the Garmin I had over 5000ft of vertical.  lol  Although that is quite possible, and I did have a hilly ride, it wasn't quite that hilly.  Awesome day for riding

Soon off for a 1h40' tempo ride in the Pyrenees.

WOW that sounds like fun.

10 miler done with the last 3 miles @ a pickup pace.  I am glad I waited because I would have missed the sleet and rain.

I thought of going out there too for a run but decided against it. Don't need a slip up out there.

Good job getting that ride in. I can't imagine YET having to sit that long.

Yeah, what's with that ordinance? can't ride with bike lights? head lamp?

Ha, pretty sure we can get away with a bike light, but there is a limit on the wattage of all other lights.  Street lights pretty much don't exist here.  So it is pretty stinking dark.  I think if it is rural I might be willing to chance it, and although Tucson is fairly rural I think there might still be too much traffic, and those old folks, they don't see so well to start with.  lol

James, what kind of bike light did you use to bike in the early morning?

After three bumming days I finally hit the pain cave and did  3 x 10' @ 85-90%FT.

I had no pain in the knees but definitely felt the lack of biking the last few days. I'll be hitting

the trainer again and probably for a couple of hours. I hope everyone is having a great weekend so

far.

Got a 5.5mile run in this morning. Strange how 0c can suddenly feel so warm after so many days at ridiculously low temperatures!

How about lance Armstrong?

1 Docherty, Bevan 0:18:54 2:14:37 1:12:50 3:50:13
2 Armstrong, Lance 0:19:22 2:10:18 1:17:01 3:50:55

Un.freaking fast! I'll take any of those splits any day! I knew his bike split was going to be great -

I think is great for the sport.

Fred D - 2012-02-12 10:31 AM Good thread about longer trainer rides in the ironman forum. Do you ride your trainer over 3 hours ever?

I am fairly certain I don't like tri's or bike riding enough to get on the trainer for 3 hours.  It would take the fun out of the sport for me.  I could see me doing it maybe if I was a top AGer and I was looking for a trip to the championships.

Not a real exciting weekend of training for me.  I went to a hockey game friday night and it just so happened to be dollar beer night .

I got a 1:15 trainer ride on Saturday with some tempo and sweetspot riding.  Early this morning I ran 8 miles with some hills and trails mixed in and playing hockey tonight.

I was very impressed with Lance today.  I did not think he was capable of running a 1:17 off the bike.  1:22 maybe but not a 1:17..that was awesome.  Based on his bike split it seems like he nailed his pacing.   I am about to go over and read the Tri talk thread but did Lieto get off the bike with him and completely blow up on the run trying to hang with him?

I have not rode the trainer past 1:45 but will probably ride up to 2:30 in my HIM prep this year.  I do enjoy getting outside though for my longer rides...really enjoy exploring new areas and getting out on the road....definitely more fun.

Fred:  What was your workout when you got to 140-150 TSS on your 2 hr ride?  I was intrigued when I read that.

Good confidence builder workouts this weekend. Saturday rode 77 solo, about 50 flat and 25+ in the hills to simulate (a long) California HIM where the climbing comes second half. Indian food Nd the theater last night. . Then followed up with a hilly 11 me run this morning. Been a while since I've done long back to backs like that. Last mile of the run was 8:4X which is fast for me. Hope everyone else had productive weekends

James, what kind of bike light did you use to bike in the early morning?

I have a NiteRider MiNewt .X2 rechargeable 2009’ish

It has a very small headlamp which is mounted/attached with a type of O ring to the handlebar or top of the stem. IMO they should of used a clamp or Velcro, but it works.  Fully charged on high it gives me enough bright (150 lumens) light thru the dark part of the ride.  The newer models are much better; longer charge and brighter.  The last time I use it for morning rides was back in 10’.  Other than that I take it out every several months or so to operate it and charge it.  So because I am back to mornings I'll probable start using it again for morning rides.  I also have it for my commuter/cross bike which I redid the headlamp mount to a clamp type.
