Finished my zwift ride 15 minutes before game time. On the sofa, beer in hand for kick off. Perfect timing.

Was a great game, easily the most complete performance of the season. Which is a good time to be peaking. Amazing start, huge lound home crowd and rode the wave of emotion, 16-0 after 13 minutes, and the Knights had yet to complete a set with possession of the ball. Not quite game won, but very close to. It closed up a bit during the middle of the game, but we ran away with it in the last 20 minutes or so.

Away to Brisbane next week for a place in the grand final. Brisbane are definitely favourites, but if we play as well as we did Saturday we have a fighting chance.

Happy with my cutback week. Based at home all week makes for a lot easier to schedule than the last one.

Swim, x1, 1,000m, 25min
Bike, x3 all zwift, 3:30
Run, x3, 2:20
Strength and Mobility, 0 This weeks disappointment.

all up, 6hr 15 for the week. The body is feeling ok, but still a bit stiff and tired. I need to make more of an effort to do stretching etc. over the next few weeks.

@Gretchen. Good choice backing off from your workout with the dodgy ankle. I have no faith at all in battery powered yard tools. Ditch the toy and come home to gas. Everybody loves the noise of a 2 stroke engine at full throttle. (After spending time in Melbourne I hope you get that 'the castle' reference)

@Nat, how did your fitness test go? And of course your first hockey of the season? Started as you finished last year I hope.

@Nicole. Nice work getting everything ticked off for the first time. The first of many I'm sure. How did you get on over the weekend? I'm guessing first football game of the year involves some post match socialising?

@Mike, there can never, ever be too many Monty Python references. But you forgot to mention that you had to do that tri across lake Michigan after working 26 hours a day down at the mill

Good week Andrew, other than the strength and mobility. I have problems fitting it in too. So much that I am considering going back to karate training once a week just for that.

The test went really well, 13 min 59sec , very happy. According to my coach, that gives me a VO2 thingie of 47, which is "elite" for my age (and even if I was 20 years younger)
Even my husband was midlly impressed over my improvement vs last time (1 minute and 20 seconds better). "Some people get slower as they get older" he said

Past week numbers
Sx 1 - 533m - 12:59 minutes. Still warm enough in the lake
B x 2- 83km - 3:57 hours. 1 x commute to work on trails and one 50k on road. Weather is still too nice for Zwift
R x 2 -Wednesday intervals when my watch died + 3k at the speed of light yesterday
Strength and mobility x beeeehhh

Yes, the Lakers won but it took a while, the visitors took the lead 3 times before we scored 2 in 26 seconds halfway through the 3rd period and ran away with it from there
It was fun to be back there!

Go warriors!!!

Wow Nat, sub 14!!!! That's amazing!!
Andrew, glad to hear your team won, and you had a nice week at home with your workouts!

I had a pretty good weekend! It was very social but I didn't drink any alcohol. It helped that I had my nephew Saturday. I was nervous enough having him on my own, definitely would not drink while I am solely responsible for him. Friday night I spent time with a good friend who recently got out of a breakup and is also not drinking and feeling really sad, so we had some good time to sit and talk through a lot of stuff.
Saturday I woke up and did a strength workout, then went to football, where we kicked some booty. I had a chill afternoon before swinging by a party for a half hour, then going to get my nephew. We played some video games, made some popcorn, watched a movie and did a puzzle before getting to bed around 11, and went to the farmers market in the morning. I woke up and jumped on my bike and did a 45 min PZ ride. He woke up earlier than I expected, but just chilled on a couch and finished the puzzle we'd started the night before while I rode. Overall a great time and successful first sleepover!

Had a "party" in the afternoon after his soccer game, then axe league. I was so exhausted that I was ready to pass out by 9pm.
Woke up this morning and got a 30 min PZ ride in, followed by a 5 min cool down, 10 min core, and 15 min much needed yoga for cyclists.

This week will be my first challenge with my drinking during the week goals. I have a work dinner tonight and tomorrow, and am supposed to do dinner with co-worker friends Wednesday. I will either need to pick a night (probably the one with my friends), OR I was thinking maybe if I commit to just one glass of wine each night, that spreads it out a bit but I still stick to my max # of drinks goal.

Hey, all.  Down here on Hilton Head Island for a few days enjoying some late summer weather, which included a 4.5 mile run in super soupy humidity with my daughter.  Solid week last week with three runs, two swims, three rides, a Bikram session and a bunch of other strength and core work.  Plenty of higher efforts throughout so dialing in for my sprint in a couple of weeks.

Started this week with a short bike ride and some strength work, then dancing with the old ladies in the pool doing aqua aerobics, which is no joke if you put some effort into it.

@Nathalie - nicely done!!!  You've really advanced this year as an all-around athlete and you should kill it next year.

@Nicole - good work this week

@Andrew - the machine #2 continues and hope your team advances doing whatever it is you were describing above; what do we burn besides witches??

@Gretchen:  nice "off" day

Hope everyone has a great week

This weekend was a big bust for me--nothing on the workout front. Almost nothing on the productivity front. Just blahhhh...except, I had a friend visiting and we had fun and substantially reduced the world's alcohol supply. Yes, that is the scale we must measure it on, because if we are looking at smaller scale supply, we have to use words like obliterate and decimate. I haven't had a weekend that big in a LONG time and I might just be too old for this . Still feeling a bit blah today, even after taking yesterday off and just watching (American) football and sitting on the patio in the sun like a lizard, hoping the sun would cure me.

This morning I did 40' of a planned hour run thanks to some GI issues requiring an earlier than normal turn around. This evening, I'm going rock/wall climbing with a friend of mine. It is my first time climbing (we'll be indoors at the gym with instructors and harnesses and safety gear and everything), so I'm hoping it will be fun. If not, at least it was a new experience.

I just got an update about water temps for this weekend's half-ish IM (2250m swim; 56 gravel bike, 13.1 trail run). It is currently 64F (17.5C). That's cold to me. I'm going to have to think hard about whether I want to drag out my full sleeved wetsuit and see if it still fits/hasn't disintegrated in the 5+ (?) years since I last had it out of its box. I normally wear a farmer John (sleeveless with shorts) because it gives me most of the lift without the chance of overheating too much and without the issues of trying to get it off quickly in T1.

@Nathalie, Sub 14! I called it. Well done, just goes to show how well you've done this summer. Awesome work.

@Nicole, Sounds like a super busy weekend. Soccer, football, axe, yoga, peloton. You are getting it done. For your work functions, don't be afraid to have some 0 alcohol beers. You can still partake in the socialising but cut the booze/calories out. Another thought, if you drive/offer to be the sober driver for others that may help with any peer pressure to have more drinks than you're wanting.

@Gretchen. A very different weekend for the machines standards, but sounds like a good time. There's nothing wrong with taking a break and letting your hair down for a bit. Hope you enjoyed it more than the guilts got you. I forgot you're racing this weekend, you have a road 70.3 the following weekend too right? Are you going to do a taper week, or just as normal as possible.

@Mike, If you've finished a triathlon, that means you can swim, which means you float.... BURN THE WITCH!

After no strength/mobility stuff last week I made an effort this time. Instead of 0 workout for Monday rest day I made it more of an 'active recovery' day. 15 minute Z1 jog on the treadmill to warm up those tired legs, then 15 minute body weight and stretching routine, followed by half an hour soaking in the spa. That's part of the recovery process too I think.

This morning I got up and did a 'mixed interval' workout, as prescribed by the canned plan. It was a bit of a pyramid workout, 1.5'Z5, 5'Z4, 10'Z3, 5'Z4, 1.5'Z5 with 2 minute rests. Looking at the plan I was a bit nervous about so much intensity, but coped pretty well. I'm glad the Z5 intervals weren't any longer but considering its by far the highest intensity run workout I've done in ages pretty happy with how it went.

Tonight it's Mr 6's school production, so no training. He's very excited, his parents, not so much. Haha. Worst thing about these, you're not supposed to leave after your kid is done. Hopefully we're not out too late tonight.

Thanks for your kind words people, yes Andrew, you called sub 14 and I didn't believe you!

I agree with Andrew Nicole , non alcoholic beer is quite nice these days and nobody has to know they are 0 if you don't want them to, if you are worried about peer pressure.

Gretchen, sounds like you could have done with some of these, LOL.

Well done on that high intensity stuff Andrew. And enjoy watching your son while you can. Soon he'll be a grumpy teenager who won't want you to come and watch him when he does stuff.

When's your sprint again Mike?

Hey all, just checking in. I’ve got a few pages to catch up on. Half iron didn’t pan out - I had to work afterall.
This summer was a bit of a bust in terms of workouts anyway; 2 deaths in the family and terrible weather across the state all summer - flooding, etc. Just sporadic workouts at best. This fall I’d like to light the torch under my butt as ski season is coming.
A friend reached out and wants to do “something” next summer to keep her training through the winter. I’ve been throwing ideas out there from hut to hit hiking/camping to a triathlon to biking across Canada. She hasn’t bit yet but hasn’t offered anything up. If any of you know if anything adventurous, let me know. She wants to stay in the States or Canada and probably limited to a week.

Oh! Most importantly, I got my gravel bike out for the first time in a year and went for a short spin to make sure I remember how to ride my bike. I got home, leaned it up against a bench in the mudroom and went to the kitchen for a drink. My son came home from school and walked in the door which knocked my bike over … jacked up my rear derailleur so it won’t hold a gear in the mid range on the cassette. (Totally not his fault, it’s all in me). It has electronic shifting so there’s only so much I dare to screw with it. I was supposed to ride this afternoon with a friend but heading to the bike shop if they can fit me in. Silly me.

Jenn welcome back! Sorry to hear it was a bit of a bust of a summer in terms of workouts, and really sorry for your losses. I love the idea of having something to train for next year with your friend. If I hear of anything really cool I will definitely let you know.

Nat, great start to the tracker! Thanks for sharing Mine is attached.
I ended up having a few more drinks last night than planned, but had a very fun time and was totally in control (it was a long night). I made sure to drink lots of water and was still able to wake up this morning and get 20 minutes of upper body strength in, followed by 10 minutes of yoga (trying to make it just part of my regular workout routine). I'm extremely tired today and looking forward to an early night, as I managed to get out of the dinner this evening. Going to skip trivia and go to bed early. I also walked to work today, so that's about 3 1/2 miles of walking I'll do today.

Andrew, that would sounds tough, great work!

Gretchen, sounds like a really fun weekend! It's nice to take a break from being the machine sometimes I think and just let loose. Now you can get back to it!

Mike, enjoy the trip!

I don’t know if anyone is interested, but one of the papers I wrote while I was in Egypt just got published today. Unlike most academic research, it is free for the next 50 days, if anyone wants to read more about what I do when I wander away from home for months on end. The link was posted below (so I don’t look crazy if BT strips it!)

2000yds in the pool this morning. It is Wednesday the week of a HIM, so I finally decided to start tapering. :D. Saturday is a gravel bike race (28miles) and then Sunday is gravel HIM(ish—long swim, short run—perfect!). Never done a gravel bike race or a gravel tri, so automatic PR weekend for me!! Water temp is 64F…and there will be running on “natural” surfaces. I hope I don’t die.

@Gretchen, congratulations on your paper getting published. Although I am mildly disappointed not to see a BDAS'er shout out in the acknowledgements section.

@Nathalie. Love the spreadsheet. My inner numbers geek is impressed. Although, you have to do something to account for the x times a week goals. i.e. if you do strength 2 of the last 7 days you get a green square. Not just green on the day you do it

@Nicole. I see a lot of ticks on that tracker. Nice work

@Jenn, Nice to hear from you stranger. Sorry to hear that your summer has been a bit of a bust. Sometimes life is going to life and we need to remember this is just a hobby. I'm the wrong part of the world to have epic summer mission goals for you. Some of our 'great trail' walks are amazing (google milford track) but it's a long way to come for a hike.

More importantly, how is the bike?

@Me, We survived Mr 6s school show. He was so excited which is lovely to see, but a long night for everyone. Unfortunately, the next morning he was feeling a little crook, Mrs BF found a few spots. A trip to the Doc's and he's officially got Chicken pox. So, school holidays start 3 days early in the Bullfrog house.

Managed 90 minute zwift, mostly Z2 with a few short Z4 intervals. Planning on an hour treadmill run tonight.

You're right, I should reward myself with green accross the whole week if I achieve the x time a week goal but it was not the case last week (only 2 stretch, goal is 5 and 0 strength, goal is 2).
Although I want to track which days of the week I manage to do these things, so I think I will leave the days when I don't do them white and green on the days when I do (like I did for the SBR tracking)

Sorry to hear the chicken pox is in the Bullfrog household, hope he feels better soon

Hi, all.  Back from the beach and back to work.  Looks like we're going to have a huge washout this weekend weather-wise with a sub-tropical system throwing wind and rain at us.  Better this weekend than during my tri next, though.  Got in a couple of good runs down there in between enjoying some BDAS fluid.

@Jenn:  glad to hear from you and echoing other comments sorry your summer has been rough; here's to a better 2024

@Andrew:  well at least you can't catch the little one's chicken pox! (assuming you've had them)

@Nathalie and Nicole:  nice work on the logs - love the old school paper

@Gretchen:  congrats on the publication - I'll carve out some time to read through it

Happy Friday! I've had a pretty solid week. Ticked off a lot of boxes and have felt really productive. I have a friend coming into town tonight so it will be a busy but hopefully still healthy weekend. I know she likes to drink, so I will just work on my balance.

Have a great weekend all! Gretchen, good luck in your races!
