Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Everyone...sorry but the sun has been out round here and I have been trying to FOCUS! haha looks as though everyone is staying busy! Julie....looks like you got some great info on what to do and not to do when riding your bike in a tri...and I see you now see where I get my name ( I actually got it from my sister n law) although I have to admit I love saying it in a race to a guy and have them almost wreck trying to see what girl is passing them! nothing better! besides the stay to the right unless passing, stay back three bike lengths, pass within 15 seconds or drop back....there are some transition rules, too...my sister flipped over her handlebars the first race because she had no idea you had to walk your bike thru...she was riding hard and could not hear anything and of course was hamming it up for the family when all of a sudden a race volunteer jumped in front of her and yelled stop! she slammed on her breaks and went over the handlebars and thudded to the ground! she ended up breaking a rib...but still ran the run portion! I too remember my first race and not knowing this...there are signs...but who's reading??? Yvonne...I feel for you...I hated grading days! What age do you teach? Congrats on your new wetsuit! like Amy said...do not take it into chlorine. I wanted to do the same with mine...do make sure to get as many practices as possible in it before your race. Make sure to get some glide and rub it all over so you do not get any rashes from where it may rub you wrong and this will help you to get it off and on...plus my final tip and I wish I would have know this before my first ows race is when you are about to leave the water unzip your suit and take the arms off...let as much water as possible in the suit when exiting the water...this will help when you try and remove the leg portion...It must have taken me a good 5 minutes to get out of mine the first tri! A few more minutes and I could have ordered a pizza! haha what kind of suit did you get? and did you say birthday?...happy belated bday!!!!! when was it? Amy...now why have you waited so long to have that great smiling face as your avatar???? promise me no more hippos! Susie...dont stress on your weight! I say to only weigh yourself once a week! the scale can be your enemy! I find that mine in the garage has done me wonders! I used to get sooooo mad when I would work my butt of training and would eat healthy...small portions...only to see that i had gained..but you have to realize that sometimes we will gain and that is muscle mass. do you drink lots of water? are you logging food intake? what is this about a challenge? where you can win $50? is this on BT? Dan...Bianchi is a great bike...I have a very dear friend who is trying to talk me into racing with her next month and she loves her Bianchi bike...which year? model is it? - - hope your shoulder is feeling better! I see it still has not slowed down your training! kiu but dont over do it! how is the weather in Japan these days/nights? Nicole...love your new avatar...I think this is History in BT...you never have anything but your bike avatar! good idea on the mark the leg for other BT'ers....and I can imagine that many must remark about not being a hill slug! you rock the bike! Cheri...hoping you can let the team know more about your workouts with torture your running partner Dan....seems like the topic of discussion of our thread lately is speed interval training....so, maybe you can let us know what your schedule is on those days? and anyone else who may want to interject here! I know that it is great for you and I do my own thing...but would love to bring my run times down...so any help here would be great! we seemed to have lost a few teammates! I say we ALL hammer them with inspires til they come back! dont want to name names on who the MIA are...head around to each others logs and you will find a few with empty logs and white calendars! hope you will all help with this! we all promised to try and help each other stay on track and I hate to lose even a few of you!!!! train well everyone! REMEMBER WE WILL CHECK IN THREE TIMES A WEEK! and WE WILL FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I didn't actually plan on keeping the leg avatar. I was at work and decided I needed to take down the V-day avatar and then discovered I didn't have access to my regular "Ride Woman" avatar. So, instead of leaving things blank until later in the day I put up the calf picture. The response has been so positive that I'm leaving it for a little while. |

I'm not stressed about the weight at all. It is information. And now that I have that information, it's time to kick it into gear! I was weighing once a week, and everything was falling completely apart on weekends. For now I really like weighing once a day because I see right away the consequences for my actions. No, the gain is NOT muscle mass -- it's from three 20-oz. regular Cokes and some chocolate. OK, a lot of chocolate! Right now I am tracking intake using the WW trackers. Before that, I was tracking calories here. Doing both is very time-consuming. I want to get a food scale next. Also I read about a new cognitive therapy book about weight loss I might check out. It's by Dr. Beck. It leads you through a bunch of writing exercises, which sounds like exactly the type of thing I love! OK, tah-tah for now. I'm off back into the land of ice and snow. |

Thanks for the reminders about the chlorine...the pool I go to is salt water but I think they still use a bit of chlorine- I will check with the pool people before taking my new favourite tri gear into the water. Good advice about getting the wetsuit off! I will try to remember that. It actually was a lot tougher to put on than to take off...hubby and I were laughing about the thought of triathlons starting on the beach but with your wetsuits at your feet. The gun goes and then you have to work at getting it on before going through your swim. It might just qualify as a fourth event! A Quadathlon! I ended up with a beautiful Zoot Zenith...we found an incredible deal online (over 50% off the price at my local shop)....and it is much closer to my half-birthday than the original day at the end of September. And I have the pleasure of teaching what I call the walking hormones...Grades 8 and 9. We have a lot of fun and they leave me shaking my head constantly. Have a wonderful Friday, gang! |

I love getting the KIUs - they do help. The weather here was doing okay until last night and it is snowing again as I type. We have high wind warnings for tonight and tomorrow. Sunday onwards is looking decent, i.e., highs in the low 50s. Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning! I was back at the pool today and wow was it crowded! I got there regular time and all the lanes were already taken and there were two people on the deck waiting for lanes. A guy already in the pool volunteered to do circle swimming; the other two preferred to wait so I got in with them. The guy was swimming about my speed but the woman was substantially slower and we had to swim around her. After a little of that she left and we went to half-lane swimming but just a little while later I was asked to go back to circling. Another while of that and then we were back to half-lane. Sprinkled in with all of that distraction I was having trouble keeping my swimcap on my head (I got my hear cut last night and I think the hair product she used was making my hair extra slippery) and then my goggles would start to leak. Of course, this was the day I was trying to do a 1600m+ continuous swim. It didn't really come off as planned. I still got in a decent 2300m total. I've got a run on tap for tomorrow and a ride planned for Sunday. What's everyone got going on? |

I just said "they are supposed to be tight ". grumble..... Anyway, I'll have dh take a pic of me in it later when he is home (never saw the day I'd post a pic of me in spandex ! lol I'll definitely have to get that body glide stuff, there are a few places it irritates me, like my neck and the legs where the gripper dealies are. Otherwise I think they fit fine........lol I'd like to NOT have the back fat or the "muffin" top thing at the shorts but oh well, perfection isn't mine ! lol |

I have also had some troubles with my silicone cap slipping but find it has to do more with positioning on my head and how my goggles positioned as well. I find that if my hair is tied in a pony tail and then the goggle straps are on either side of the 'bump', it stays in place. Let me know if you find a solution! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I guess I was unclear; our pool etiquette is as you describe: one person alone, then two with each taking half, then 3 or more swimming circles. Whenever I have to deal with chop or contact from other swimmers or the ropes I just think that it's good practice for triathlon swimming. One peeve I have is that when you are lucky enough to have a lane to yourself for a while, some people will just hop right in and start swimming without letting you know that they are there and would like to use a half of the lane. So far I've avoided any real crashes but it ticks me off every time. All it takes is to sit with your feet dangling in the water (this is what I do) or be standing in the lane when I get to the end of the lane so that I can see them there. Less than a minute of waiting. I always have my hair in a ponytail; I've found that the lower on my head I have it, the less likely the cap is to pop off. Today nothing would have kept it on! So far I've avoided any real crashes but it ticks me off every time. All it takes is to sit with your feet dangling in the water (this is what I do) or be standing in the lane when I get to the end of the lane so that I can see them there. Less than a minute of waiting. I almost had a crash like that yesterday, and all that guy needed to do was wait until I got to the end. Since I'm new at this, I thought maybe I was being silly about being peeved. I'm glad to know that I wasn't being irrational (this time!). |
