Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a pretty good time at the race this morning! I was amazed that I finished mid pack on the swim basically walking, TI drilling, diving along. I am sure I was slower than last year, but not as much as you would think. Pretty good bike, avg. just a tick over 20, which was better than last years pace. But last year they had to reroute the bike due to road construction. So it isnt an exact comparison. I should have had a better run than I think I did, but probably socialized a bit too much! Not exactly sure on the run split since I hit the stop button instead of the lap button leaving T2. Good news is I did a few swim strokes when I had the room and although I kept the reach short, the shoulder responded positively. My PT has been talking about starting the swim soon. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I see on FB that Kathleen and Iceman successfully registered for IMWI yesterday! Congrats! Running this morning, I love the cool fall mornings (I just hate knowing what season comes next!). Heading downstate (not too far from Bill I think) tomorrow for a conference that goes through the weekend. So after a bike ride in the morning, it will be run focus. I am hoping that at PT today I might get a plan for working swimming back into the mix. How are the rest of you doing? |

Go get um' Kathleen and Ice! Ken- If you are heading down, you NEED to bring your bike. Check out the Lake Welch/Harriman Park tri/du on Saturday at www.nytc.org. Its lots of fun and I'm sure you can register on site. I am actually registered for this one but I'm not sure if I will make it. I'm heading to Columbus, OH this weekend and still not sure if we are leaving Saturday Morning or Sunday. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, this may be a shameless plug, but if you guys get a chance on facebook could you send a like to my wifes business please?
My ar$e is hurting! LOL! Been spending lots of time getting personal with my trainer. Hopefully, the time will pay dividends. My coach is thinking I can't run so he might as well train me like a cyclist! Did the testing last week and kind of recovering this week. I have a feeling next weeks workouts will start getting tougher. This is the 3rd 4th or 5th method of FTP testing I've had. It's a bit frustrating because evertime I change methods my FTP gets lower!!! I think my coach is working diligently to figurer out what's going on with my bike numbers, and now that I have him to cater workouts specifically to my own personal weaknesses I think we can iron it out and finally start seeing some improvement in my numbers. I'm not sure why I'm so concerned anyhow because I always seem to continue to get faster anyway, regardless of what the numbers say. My PT cleared me for Kettle bell work Saturday!! So we should be starting that soon. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay, I wasn't going to do this, but the best laid plans of mice and men, and all that jazz... If you are into the long distances and have a few minutes to kill, want to play "guess my Ironman time" for IMAZ on 11/18? I know there are tons of variables, but there's no penalty for guessing wrong. Here are some facts from my tune-up HIM last weekend (RR is up): 1) Finish time was 542. 2) The swim on this race was short. If I had to guess, if it was a full 1.2miles it would have taken an additional 10-12 min. 3) the bike was way hillier than IMAZ. I don't know all the repercussions of this, but I convinced myself that in AZ I could keep similar avg speed by putting out considerably less watts. All reasonable offers considered, no time too big or small. I'll be very happy with a finish, but what else am I going to think about on a train commute? |

I would have liked to see your peak week in your logs
***edit btw, that's my low estimate. I think that could improve significantly with a solid peak weak of training and some more solid weeks coming into it the next couple months. Edited by Meulen 2012-09-11 8:42 AM |

many thanks Ken!!!!!
My PT reminded me to be safe with the Kettle bells. I'll be testing movements before executing and staying away from the bench press and over head stuff for a while. |

I'll play, using the double your HIM plus 1 hour would put you about 12:30. Since the bike is flatter in AZ, I'll 12:25 when the extra swim time is added in. Of course you still have a lot of time and training to do so I reserve the right to change! Continued good luck with your training Bill! |

Is there any good running routes around there that you know of? Have a good trip! Ken, that area is a bit South and East of my stomping grounds. I haven't run either, but there is the Saxon Woods Park and the Silver Lake Preserve (more rugged trails, I think). I think they are Westchester Co. Parks and should be on the internet Also, there are about 1,800 golf courses in that area. You can't throw a rock without hitting a golfer... I don't know if they allow it but public golf courses were my favorite places to run when I lived in a part of the country where there wasn't much else to look at. You travel a lot, I guess? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have been pretty unmotivated lately and my logs definitely show it! I am getting over a cold now and the kids are back in school and no more long vacations - so time to get off my butt (just in time for winter starting!) and get moving again! Went to a different ortho doc today b/c I have been having some pain in the outside of my foot - good news is it is not a stress fracture! Basically the PF (that is at the 1 year mark) is causing other imbalances in my foot. I now have tendonitis and shin splints because the muscles/tendons are trying to keep the fascia from collapsing. He used lots of big names, but that is it in a nutshell. He wants me to stop going barefoot, keep the arch supported, ice, stretch, ibuprofen, etc... Still said I could run, so went out and ran 7 miles I hope everyone is having a great week! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi All! What a weekend at IMWI! I am exhausted! We drove the bike course and while certainly hilly, I never had a "Oh %&*#(&^" moment. However when I saw part of the run course I actually had a moment when I considered not signing up. I will probably go back to Madison before the race to ride the course as I am sure it is much tougher then it looked from the car (and it looked tough from the car). Here is a little story about part of my trip I am already in my seat on the plane when a couple with Ironman 70.3 shirts pass by me and sit behind me. Edited by Kath2163 2012-09-11 8:08 PM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Robyn I'm really sorry your in a little training slump. It sucks your foot is acting up too. I hope you feel better about things soon and jump back in the game! A cycling buddy of mine mentioned orthotics for PF. He had a set made but told me about Spenco orthotics that he thought were just as good as the prescription ones. When I looked them up I foun they made orthotic sandles. I picked a pair of both up on Amazon fairly cheap. Between the two of them they have seemed to give me the most relief. I wear the sandles around the house constantly and the orthotics in my work shoes. My running shoes seem to have plenty arch support on their own. Anyway, thought I'd share in hoes you would find some relief. |

Did IMWI sell out on site or did it go online? I haven't had a chance to look. Compared to AZ and FL, Wisconsin is going to be hillier, but considering where you live you will have oportunity to prepare for the course! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My name is Bill, and I am a raceaholic. It has been 3 days since my last race... Since I have to bail on this weekends sprint to travel, I've decided to replace it with another HIM the week after (9/23 HITS at Hunter Mt). I'm just waiting for confirmation from the Boss since she has concert tickets that evening (to see the BOSS) and will need me home at some point to do my Daddy duties. I totally feel like a kid who doesn't want Summer (race season) to end. Plus, I get to delay swapping back to my training wheels. Getting the brakes right is a pain in the butt. The race is only 1.5 hrs from me and they said I can pick up the packet race morning. Plus it leaves 8 weeks till AZ, which is when my plan calls for a HIM. I am rationalizing, fact is racing is too much fun! |

The only concern that I would have is getting some solid long rides and runs in on the weekends you aren't racing. Those 100 plus mile training rides offer a lot of value to the confidence level. Plus a chance to practice the nutrition plan! |

I wish I had your enthusiasm Bill! Unfortunately, I think I like to train more than I like the racing. I might be a little sick, but I enjoy putting in the work day to day. Racing to me can be a logistical nightmare! By the time I gather up all my wifes animals and get them all off to the places they need to be while we are gone....I'm exhausted! LOL Then I need to drive to the race. After the race I need to take a day off of work just to get all my animals back! Sounds stupid, but it takes the fun out of going away for just a weekend race.
Listen to Ken on those long workouts! That's what I was talking about when we were estimating your time. One of the biggest mistakes I made in my first HIM was only doing the race distance as my long bike. I was working the LTF advanced group rides and we only did 56miles every sunday. I could have used much more of a long bike than that. IMO it's the difference between adding an hour onto your HIM time or being able to actually "run" instead of walk the run leg. I was much more comfortable coming off the bike this season when my long bike topped out at 91 miles before HIM. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the advice Ken and Brian. I am def. taking it to heart. My Plan, such as it is, only calls for 3 rides over 5 hr. 2x5.5hr and 1x6hr, and i plan on hitting every one, including the one on Marathon weekend (10/20-10/21). What I really have a hard time with is hitting my brick runs after long rides. Everytime I get home from a long ride there seems to be some reason I should not be heading out for a 45 min run. Maybe I should start and end the bike somewhere other than my house...
Also, things are pretty calm at work right now but the winds of change are blowing and it looks like i may have a opportunity to make some changes that would be good career wise, but may curtail tri training next year. Carpe diem!! |

Wow Bill - another BIG race - let us know how you like the HITS race! It's nice that you have so many options to race - I pretty much have to leave AK to race anything longer than a sprint! Talk about logistical nightmares! |
