Hi All - Sorry to have been such a slacker the past couple of days.  My back is still really sore.  Clearly the shoveling didn't agree with my two bulging disks.  The good news is that the swelling is down and the pain is better - but I still have a ways to go.  I'm going to my massage therapist tomorrow and she has worked miracles in the past and hopefully she will do so again.

Quick question - I got a note from a guy who wants to join the group.  He's a newbie and hasn't even made his first post yet.  I'd like his first post to be in the BDAS.  Would you be willing to let one more join?

Here's what I know about him - he's new, knows nothing about the sport, is training for a sprint in last spring, he lives in Texas, and he likes beer.

Glad to hear you are making some progress with the swelling and pain.  Take it slow and easy and don't overdo it.  Hope the massage therapist can work some miracles for you!  

I have no problems with a new person joining the group, just remember the rule about having to buy a round for joining late Laughing

Back to the land of computers! Great weekend. Cut and moved brush for several hours with the family. I convinced my boys that loading logs was good for their basketball game muscles. It was fun seeing them play around in the open for hours on end (since we stopped bringing computers to the farm). No bike or run as I am still going easy on the leg. Therefore no dogs!

Good luck in the job; though it is not your dream job it will give you an opportunity for more time with family and training! I get the trade off, I drive 70 miles one way and would love to work in town!

Actually - the massage I got today has really helped.  The woman that does it not only used to work at my wife's school but she also went to the church we used to go to and she gave an amazing discount.  She worked on my back for 80 minutes and only charged me $40 - that's 50 cents a minute!  About 45 minutes in - it occurred to me that most of my pain had gone away.  Even though some of it has come back (so to speak), it's a huge improvement.  I'm hoping to get in some light yoga tomorrow and maybe even a swim.

That's awesome on 2 levels.  $40 = 80 minutes BONUS and no pain = double BONUS.  I wanted to start yoga but waiting for the knee to get to 100%, still kind of scared and it has a dull painful ache.  I can put weight on it and walk just still a throb under the knee cap so I'm sure (hope) it's nothing major.

So where is everyone with their 27/28 goals?  Only 8 days left in the month!  I finally got caught up and with today's jog am at 19/19, hope I can keep it up.  I unfortunately can't say the same for the push up challenge, I think that one is going to have to wait for another day sorry Thor  Embarassed.  

Hope everyone got their workout in today and is enjoying a nice brew!  As for me I think I will open a Santa Fe Brewing Nut Brown Ale and enjoy watching the Nuggets beat the Celtics!  Guess I shouldn't say that too loud our Boston moderator might kick me out Tongue out.

Jared - Growing up in Cleveland, I always rooted for the Lakers.  I hated the Celtics - bunch of whiners.  Hope the Nuggets crush them and then destroy the Heat and their modern day Benedict Arnold.

In honor, or shame, not sure which, I drank Molsen's tonight after the hockey game.  Question for all the Brothers up north:  Why do the put beer 2x on the label, It says "bierre Lager beer"?  Is it that good that they have to put beer on it twice? Laughing

Rest day tomorrow followed by another slow run on Thursday.

This morning was such a waste.  I get up at 4:45, it's 7 degrees farenheit outside, but I still make it the pool in time for the 5:30am opening time, only to find that there's 9 people in the four lanes.  I am time-crunched today with an early court call, so I just went back home for breakfast.  The lifeguards are useless as well, since they won't make people circle-swim, and (even at 3:00/100)  I am so much faster than every arm-flopping, barely-not-drowning person in the pool, that I would be lapping someone every 3 turns anyway.

Not a good start to the day.  I hope my evening run goes better, though a z2 dreadmill session is going to leave me more grumpy today, if that's possible.

I hear and agree with your frustration.  I hate it when people won't share lanes.  But you should give yourself credit for getting your butt out of bed given the early hour and the fact that it was freezing outside.  Maybe you should head outside and brave the cold - it would be better than time on the dread mill.  Pretend you're a b@d like Darren and do it in shorts.  That'll be something you could feel good aboutLaughing

Despite sleeping like crap last night, I got out of bed determined to have a good day.  After dropping off my daughter at school, I came back home and got in a 30 minute yoga session that I designed myself on Yoga Studio (a cool app you can download) to avoid any strain on my back.  I then had a healthy breakfast of wheat berries with blueberries and bananas and plan on working on my cover letters to various schools this morning.  As a reward, I'm going into Boston this afternoon to test drive a mini (my car is still running so I won't buy - but I thought it would be a cool way to spend an hour).  Then, I'm gonna enjoy a mini beer tour by stopping at Harpoon, Night Shift and Idlehands Breweries.  It's my hope that I'll be able to try 10 new beers.  How can I not have a good day...
