You're lucky! When I aquajog (only in the AM), I get 5 lanes to use all to myself (only 3 lanes are roped off). I did that aquajog on Sunday afternoon; the diving board was supposed to close at 3, so I went after 3. The diving board was still open (ARRGGG!!), but fortunately, the kids weren't too bad. That said, the kids pool was packed, and even when I had the whole pool to myself, it was just soo stressful hearing all that screaming and yelling and splashing, etc. Not cool .

LaurenSU02 - 2008-08-19 11:37 AM For me, it's usually 40 mins between waking up and hitting the water, which I think is fine. Although, I do always wonder if I would have better speed sessions if I swam in the evening. I just HATE my pool at night. They have 3 lanes open, sometimes you get your own, sometimes you don't. But we also have a whole kid pool with water slides and such. Sooo, there's hundreds of screaming kids running around, and a lot of them use the diving board which sits between lanes 4 and 5. If you're swimming in lane 3, it sucks. You swallow water, they startle you, kids pop up in your lane, etc. If you're in lane 1, you're closer to the kid's pool, so you get balls thrown at you, etc. It's madness I tell you. Madness!

Ick.

No kids at my gyms.  I don't think I can handle that.  Just a random person once or twice a year that doesn't understand pool/lap swim etiquette.

I have to contend with SCUBA training at my pool.  I swear they watch me from underneath.  I can hear their bubbles, too.  Kinda weird.

We have kids running around in the summer only at my pool b/c the summer camps use it. I never know what time it will be empty or chaotic, I just have be lucky. Once school starts the kids are gone, but then the lifeguards are sometimes students in my class. Sometimes I worry that they know it's me and wouldn't save me if I needed them because they are pissed at me about their grade!

I have 2 pools at my gym.  An 8 lane indoor and a 6 lane indoor/outdoor.  The 8 lane has swim team everyday from 4pm-8pm.  The 6 lane is where they have swim lessons and aqua aerobics in the afternoon.  I hate going after work to swim.

Sweet. My pool has an 8-lane competition pool. It's open in the morning, but generally for 9 months out of the year, all lanes are booked from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., so swimming or aquajogging in the evening is out of the question (definitely made for tough scheduling this past spring when I was doing combined 7-8 hrs of swim and aquajog each week). There's also a big kids pool (walk in like you do at the beach) that has two 25-yd lanes at the end of it. You can swim in there, but it's shallow (3 feet), warm, and kids are constantly jumping in. And then, there was the time I got to one end of the lane to learn that someone had puked in the end of the lane.....

yep....

Back to pools.  I just realized when my pool is busy... at 5:00 am!  When I went the other morning, I was shocked to see a couple people in each lane....  Most were old blue hairs just bouncing around, but it was packed.  Old people must not be able to sleep...

Wouldn't see me up that early unless I had a mission....

LOL. I hate the old early people. Some old lady recently started coming to my pool in the AM (started the week before IMLP). I get there a few mins after my pool opens, but she always beats me there. Anyway, she started taking my locker. Now, we don't have assigned lockers, but I have used the same locker every single morning for the past 2-3 years to swim. And, out of all the empty lockers (in the AM, there are HUNDREDS), the one she has to choose is mine. I don't know what to do with myself when I show up and my locker is taken. Then, I get so furious when I head out to the pool and she's just floating around on a noodle! Grrr!

Good luck out there !

Broke 1:20 (1:19) on my last 100 last night.  I was stoked since I had already swam 3700 yards... Woot!

It would be SO cool to break 1:10 THEN go under a minute....  I would need a coach for that...

nah - been self taught...

A coach would be a good idea.  I'm thinking maybe during the off season when I don't have the pressures of a plan and race....

So I have an Oly on the 30th that I signed up for a year ago.  It's a good race.

BUT, I haven't done a sprint yet this year and I'm thinking that it would be fun to do that instead.  Plus it saves me a little for a long bike on the 31st.  So I might call and ask them to move me down(screw the couple extra bucks I paid for the oly)

So, go all out in the sprint or relax and enjoy the oly?  (but that would be hard for me.  If it's a race, I hammer)

Do whatever is best for your training.  You can look at it as go all out on the sprint and see how you do, or use the Oly to really focus on form over longer distances.  What do you want to focus on?

Anybody plan to catch the BMX cycling tonight? It got rained out yesterday, I really hope they do show it tonight (if not, there's always CBC!)

So much to see last night even without BMX. I read that Bolt ran that 200 with an average of 23mph! It is hard to imagine the human body is able to run that fast. Then there were the disqualifications for touching the line. I hate how they interviewed Spearmon about the DQ right after they found out about it. It just seems wrong. Maybe give him a minute first?

The beach volleyball final last night was worth ever minute of sleep I lost

Hey Dudes, Sorry I've been out so much.  Still sick.  Don't know what it is but going to a Dr. today about it.  Couldn't get in  sooner because of the Tropical Storm that was actually no worse than the regular thunderstorms we get down here.

I didn't catch the BMX live, but just watched some of the video.  Pretty awesome.  But why cheerleaders?

Hi Matt!!

I watched BMX last night.  I loved it!  Very exciting to watch.  I also watched as much of the mens' beach volleyball match that I could, but I fell asleep.  11:00 is too late for me!

Rogers and Dalhausser are fun to watch.  It's strange when they show regular volleyball after that because there just seems to be soo many people on the court!!! How does the ball ever land inbounds?

When you look at the Chinese medal count, notice how many golds they got from gymnastics, ping pong, badminton, and diving.  It's all of their gold medals!!!

Did you guys see the triathlon? The girl from here (Laura Bennett) finished 4th! That's not too bad.  Men's race was crazy though.  Especially the end.

I am very thankful I get CBC. They showed all of the tris and also all of the semifinals and finals for the BMX (much more than the 10min it got on NBC).

Did you guys see the DQs with the 4 x 100 womens and mens? And all of the bad words towards the USA track team? They sounded pretty harsh to me. Very sad to see both teams go out like that back to back.

Matt, hope you get better soon, sorry to hear that its been a rough week.
