Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Amy and Julie for the track info.! Sorry I've been so scarce around here. My fiance and I just adopted a puppy (not a little one, he's 7.5 months), so things have been a little chaotic over here (in a good way!). Hope everyone has a great weekend! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MDHillSlug - 2009-02-20 3:58 PM I guess I was unclear; our pool etiquette is as you describe: one person alone, then two with each taking half, then 3 or more swimming circles. Whenever I have to deal with chop or contact from other swimmers or the ropes I just think that it's good practice for triathlon swimming. One peeve I have is that when you are lucky enough to have a lane to yourself for a while, some people will just hop right in and start swimming without letting you know that they are there and would like to use a half of the lane. So far I've avoided any real crashes but it ticks me off every time. All it takes is to sit with your feet dangling in the water (this is what I do) or be standing in the lane when I get to the end of the lane so that I can see them there. Less than a minute of waiting. This happened to me the other day!!! Did I post this in here? I was doing kick sets with fins to improve ankle flexibility -- ON MY BACK. I was doing a 100. At the 50 yard mark, I looked and nobody there. Then when I'm coming back, I all of the sudden hear a yell and there's a guy. I whacked him with my arm (not on purpose, of course). What, you wouldn't wait for me to do a 50? Who gets into a lane when someone is doing BACKSTROKE without making sure they see you first? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I've pretty much just completely fallen apart here. And I can't stop eating chocolate. Some incredibly stressful and stupid stuff going on with my family. Life just isn't too good at the moment. It doesn't seem fair after all the stuff I'm facing right now to have to deal with this, too. Just not too happy. I think families forget they are supposed to love each other no matter what. I have so much respect for the courage some people have to face their families and say they don't care and sticks and stones and all that. But maybe I just don't have enough courage to believe that, and maybe words really make the deepest wounds of all. |

I know someone here on BT who does exactly that (she used to be a competitive swimmer in HS and college). |

I am really sorry you are having family issues....and you are right...family is supposed to have un-conditional love! hope you can work thru this! know you have your BT family if you need to vent! hang in there! and keep away from the chocolate! remember the progress you made on the scale!! dont make it go up again! |

Shoulder is feeling better. Well, it was after swimming and when I woke up this morning. Not sure how it is going to feel tomorrow after shoveling snow for 1.5 hours. I love getting the KIUs - they do help. The weather here was doing okay until last night and it is snowing again as I type. We have high wind warnings for tonight and tomorrow. Sunday onwards is looking decent, i.e., highs in the low 50s. 1.5 hours of shovelling?!!! That is either a lot of snow or one LOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG driveway! Hope the shoulder held up! I had no idea that Japan had so many windy and snowy days! Hope things warm up for you soon. My wife's sister and husband live next door and I did most of their shoveling too. It was messy snow. The bottom couple inches was slushy which made it really heavy and difficult to throw. I took my time and still got a great workout. We actually don't get that much snow, but there are areas of Japan that get pounded every year. It will be warmer starting tomorrow.... Now trying to decide whether to go out for a run. I know the sidewalks and small streets will be icy. |

But maybe I just don't have enough courage to believe that, and maybe words really make the deepest wounds of all. first of all, i'm going to second what julee said, and say, step away from the chocolate hon. it's good now, but it's just gonna make you feel crappy tomorrow. second of all, i feel your pain. having some family issues of my own. but let me seperate it out, are we talking immediate family-husband kids? or extended family, parents and siblings? because this is all i'm gonna say, if we're talking immediate family, work it out. go for a run, clear your head, do what you gotta do to make things work. IF however you're talking about extended family, let it go. don't make time in your life for venomous people! blood nothing, blood doesn't give someone the right to make you feel bad! blood doesn't give anyone the right to hurt you! i've severed some blood ties with extended family members (siblings-and their spouses) and it's made a huge difference! by cutting off contact with them, i've taken away their power, they can't hurt me anymore. |

Do you think that you hit him hard enough so he'll remember not to do that to someone else in the future? It seems like it would make so much sense but some just don't seem to get it. I, too, was already splitting a lane and a guy jumps in. Luckily I saw him in time to avoid a crash. Funny enough, when I asked him to wait at the end for out other lane mate to set up our circle, he just laughed and ducked under the rope, not 5 minutes later, he has a full on collision with one of the guys in that lane. He was much more undersatnding than I would have been. Oh well...the world has all kinds, and I just remind myself that you can't always control what happens to you, but you can control how you choose to react. Just have to reign it in sometimes. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Susie, so sorry to hear about the family issues. Listen to Julie and Alyssa, you are way better off going for a run/swim or to a yoga class to burn off some steam than to eat chocolate. You have worked way to hard to throw it away. This is part of the challenge- to manage the desire to eat when you are emotional. You are a strong woman, and while family can cause us to do some crazy things, you know that there are better ways to handle it than through food. Big hugs....know that you have tons of support with the group! |
