Right now, I am working on going back to the basics. Intervals for speed, but everything else in a solid z2. I am way too confortable as a z3 runner, and IMO that is not working out well. My base is good but not to the point where I can chill in z2 all day and still put down a nice split. Can you believe its like 15 weeks? Ughhhhh As a joke, I emailed my 7 mile hill run file this morning to one of the people screaming in my ear. Average pace 6:43. Average heartrate 167. I asked if this was considered "Z2 or Z3". Response was "Neither, only the Lord can help you at this point". Haha. Thing is, if you cna average 6:43 for a 7 mile hilly run, I dont think you will have any issues at all come race day (besides pacing :P) |

If this link is accurate, it doesn't look bad at all. I thought this course was more hilly. So if there are only a couple hills over 13.1 miles, then it looks like entire course is around 400ft elevation for 26.2? Does that sound right to anyone who has been there? Maybe to be more clear, I was looking for total elevation gain through the entire 26.2 miles or just 13.1 since it's 2 loop course. Fore example, my garmin says that my 6 mile run on a hilly trail last weekend had an elevation gain of 367 ft and an elevation loss of 366ft. |

It mostly follows the top of Lake Coeur d'Alene and is very flat, although it may not feel like it by lap 2. There is one short, steepish hill at the turnaround point (you hit it twice), and a lot of people just walk it to conserve energy. As I recall you also ride that hill on the bike course, although you go over it and past it before you turn around. That particular hill seems a lot less steep when you're riding it |

Regular 183 Parker, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Rumor has it that the run course is being changed this year, so the eastern run turnaround point will be after going all the way up, over, and down the hill described above, as opposed to turning around at the top of the hill as has been done in the past. This would replace the flat turnaround section west of the transition area. If this is true, we will have to run up, over, down, and then right back up and over a 135 vertical foot hill at around miles 6 and 20 of the run. I think the hill is about 1.5 miles running/biking distance, peak grade 14% (this is from a chart I posted way earlier on this thread). There's nothing else interesting to speak of hill wise on the run course. |

Ya know I'm starting to get a bit ticked off at WTC. You'd think that they would have an updated map if this were the case. Also they are still listing Gatorade as the sports drink on thecourse when this changed 2 years ago. There is a ton of other outdated info on their website as well. I guess $500+ per person is not enought to update the website once a year? Sheesh... |

Damn, that's a nice hill. My weekly hill run has some steep hills, but nothing 1.5 miles long. My last hill below is about .5 miles and it really sucks. |

Just to clarify, the 1.5 miles includes running all the way up and all the way down, so it's about .75mi climbing each way... but you'll still need to find a bigger training hill than the one in your graph there. |

Last year was plain Gatorade. I think they were originally going to provide Gatorade Endurance formula (for 2010) but that changed somewhere along the way. |

They just changed this year to the Power Bar drink for all their races. I've been training with it for the last month and have had no issues. |

New user 58 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Guys and Gals, I have read some pages ago that the food on the course does not match what the website said, and wanted to confirm / double check that. I want to start training with the same food and drinks there will be on the course so need to know what to expect. The IM CdA website says: What nutrition will be available on course?
There will be aid stations approximately every mile on the run course offering:
Is that accurate ?

They must have updated it. As of about 3 weeks ago when I contacted them it did not list the correct items. |

Extreme Veteran 396 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I just got back from my long run. It was a planned 1:40 easy recovery run. It was so nice out that I decided to keep going anc complete my 13.1 mile loop and skip the trainer ride after. I finsihed the run in 2:13:30. This is about the same time asI finished the Chicago 1/2 Rock'n Roll. This was a great confirmation that my training is making me stronger. Just had to share. |
