Artemis - 2012-08-21 10:24 AM What's up with all this talk about training and real nutrition?  I want a race nutrition strategy based on PopTarts and candy.

I tried Twizzlers but they required a lot of chewing and the whole breathing thing became a problem for me.

Pop Tarts have 32g carbs and 200 calories per serving, according to nutritiondata.  With 9g of fat per serving, they might not digest quickly enough for some so experimentation would be required.

Poptarts and experimentation, that's more like it. PS I have a broken spoke on the rear wheel. Book!

I plan to do a whole lotta more Pop Tart experimentation over the next few weeks.

Broken spoke?! From the race, transport, or who knows?

yeah, not sure. Didn't notice it until after my ride yesterday. That's probably a bike shop thing, eh? And I probably shouldn't ride it until its fixed?

Yeah bike shop is best, if you NEED to ride it, not recomended, you can go the "broken arrow" fix and wrap the broken spoke around a non broken one.  Also release your brake so it isn't rubbing on the wheel.  It will need to be trued.

Probably for the best, I learned those tricks in a bike cop class on responding to/handling riots, although it will work if you are far from home with no other options

This is probably a really dumb question but it's not a  big deal that the "spoke nipple" is gone is it? They will just put a new one in and then thread the new spoke into that?

GUESS WHAT?! I FINALLY went for my park run.  It was awesome!  I had no plan, just ran on whatever trail or path seemed like fun.  I ended up getting turned around and a bit lost, but it worked out fine.  I finished just before it started raining.  I did take my Garmin because I had to know when to leave to pick up my daughter from daycare, but I didn't pay attention to it very much.

THANK YOU ALL!  It was a great suggestion.  I can't wait to go back and do it again!

I am so excited to feel absolutely normal today - no anxiety, no melancholy no nothing, just Jo!  I think I needed to rest - I've done nothing since Sunday and it feels great (well housework, cooking, laundry etc).

I will return to swim squad tomorrow then 30 week Don Fink plan starts Monday and I cannot wait.  Will be nice to have a focus.

Oh and spring is in the air in Australia.  Woohoo!  Lovin' life today.

That is really good to hear! Shoot, definitely take some time off considering you will be investing a hefty amount of time with IM training.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys!  I'm also eating like a piglet this week, drinking what I want etc - because from Monday it gets serious again I need to be nice to my body.

Gonna weigh myself Monday morning see how this IM training affects my weight (hopefully downwards!)

Me, clutching my Manatee mug and sucking tea out of it.

Mutti: Vot a nice mug!

Me: MINE.

Mutti: Is that an ice bear on it?

Me: It's a Manatee. And it's MINE.

Mutti: May I see it?

Me: No.

Mutti makes grumpy face.

Me: Oh, all right. [Handing it over] See, there's this wonderful group of triathletes I mentor online ... we mentor each other ... anyway, we call ourselves the Manatees, so they sent me a Manatee mug.

Mutti: Vau! Vot a vonderfool gift!

Me: [smiling through clenched teeth] Mine. [Trying to take it back]

Mutti holds on to mug very tightly, pretending to try to read the names on the back.

Here ensues a Tom-and-Jerry struggle, each of us holding part of the mug and trying to take it ...

We have a THING for mugs in my family. My favorite mug story is when this boyfriend of mine gave me and my mom these huge, thick, matching Tinkerbell mugs (she was visiting LA from Indonesia). This boyfriend later disappeared without a word or trace, and it turns out he'd decided to move in with his ex-wife without letting anybody (me, his housemates, his best friend, his mom, etc.) know. I took all his stuff that was at my house, including the Tinkerbell mug, and dumped it on his mom's porch (she lived across the street from me). I would have set it on fire, too, but I liked his mom.

When I returned to Jakarta for a visit, there was my grumpy old manly-man ex-military dad, drinking his coffee out of the Tinkerbell mug, which he'd stolen from my mom.
