Yeah, that all makes sense, I am just trying to get my head around Jason's percentages, i.e. 70% of people should run a triple?  I don't get that.....

*I* think I used to believe more of that, but with the way compacts work with an 11-28 or 11-32 I think it's much rarer that they are needed now.

Interesting discussion.  Glad I didn't post in TT...LOL.

I just threw out 70% as a number.  But as Fred mentioned, I'm probably biased since I prefer to spin up hills.

My suggestion of a triple was not necessarily that people could not survive with a compact and 11-28, but why not run a triple and a 11-25?  The gearing would be essentially the same on the easy end, you'll have a higher top end (52/11) for downhills, and your spacing in between would be much better.

But I forgot about bar end shifter capability, maintenance needed for a triple, and the fact that you would also need to change your FD and shifters...so financially it likely doesn't make sense.

So, I joined a cult yesterday:

I'd really like to know what your feedback is on these after a couple of weeks.  The owner of the LRS looked at my shoes the other day, and asked why I wasn't in the Newtons.  I asked why I should be, but didn't get an answer.

So I'm curious to know what they do for you.

So after yesterdays bike ride I am feel better about the Savageman bike.  Still I am not where I want to be.  Savageman is a challenging bike no doubt and I know what awaits me.  Still I feel my run is going to be way better prepared for than at Musselman.  I got by on that bike at Musselman as it was not very challenging.  Um, unless you call having a thunder storm park over you for 15 mile.

Anyway I am going full bore thru the weekend then cut the intensity back.  Hopeful I will still get some volume in without intensity next week but will see how I feel.  Savageman is definitely a bike type race.  I think with my bike fitness the same and my running fitness better than Musselman it will still be a wash in the overall.

Any suggestions welcomed.  Smile

NO I am not ridding a triple!

My advice...BRICK!

Not as in to do a brick workout...but to get one.

And if you don't make it...I'm going to suggest you get a triple.  That should be good incentive.

Ran for the first time yesterday in over 3 months.  Just 3 miles on the treadmill at a 10 mm pace just to see what would happen.  Leg muscles felt fine, cardio was good, but as expected the joints and tendons were a little stiff.

Planning on swimming for the first time in over 3 months tomorrow...that should be even more interesting!!!

. Pros and cons. I've been in them for almost 3 years.

Can I ask what those are?

All dressed up in battle gear.  Plan to carry a bottle in the bars, and aero bottle on the frame.  The one under the saddle will stay empty.

Fred D - 2012-09-07 8:19 AM Swam this am. Man TTis really becoming a COJ forum. Many if not more than half are not tri training or racing or something related type threads. If the majority of the site is enjoying it, then awesome, but I will be honest I think the owners here prefer all the ancillary stuff. Aside from this thread there really isn't a tri focus thread is there? May sound like the same old whining from me, and maybe it is....but TT is anything but TRI talk these days.

You are right.  I stuck my nose in there a couple of times  yesterday and I really couldn't find that much that was interesting.

I do find that the content of TT goes in waves.  There are periods of time like now where there is just garbage and then for a while there are some really great discussions.  I suspect that with the time of year, people's focus is elsewhere given that many people's race seasons are winding down.

I went for a 9.5k run after work yesterday.  Longest run post IM so far but it was a disaster.  Let's just say I had to make a detour into the woods and I was within sight of my house....

Last day in Toronto. I feel that I got some good training in even with elective craziness. I ran from downtown TO to Humber Bay and back for my long run. The main sightseeing I've done has involved Running because I just haven't had time for much else. Headed back to Edmonton tonight. My final practical exam of medical school is on Sun so I'll be prepping for that in lieu of much training this weekend. Ive had a great time here but I suppose I have to head bak west.

Arend, you should be doing the really, really short runs at this stage. 9.5km sounds long for the recovery phase you and I are in.

Yeah, I know that now - lower leg muscles are not happy today.  I'll go back to the 5k runs I was doing.

TSimone - 2012-09-06 9:42 PM Very nice Neil. When do you depart?

Supposed to get up to the inlaws tonight, which is half way between home and the race.  Then tomorrow morning we'll leave early and get to the race site for around 10am.

How about you?
