Perhaps just pop your head into your bosses office and just ask? If nothing else, you C.Y.A. and you show the boss that you take the initiative... which is a bonus.

Sigh. i dealt with that for a while when i started this job. just start introducing yourself to people, ask to be invited to meetings, ask people with similar roles to show you what they do, stuff like that. grab books off the shelves and start reading, learn the company's history, etc |

I've basically got a Patents for Dummies book that I'm making my way through. And doing research on the PTO website for what the heck I'm supposed to be doing.
