lyssa-gator - 2009-02-22 11:48 AM ok. i give up. i know when i'm whipped. i tried,i really really did. i got all dressed, got out the door, walked for a few minutes, then ralphed in my neighbors driveway (serves her right, since she lets her dog poop on my driveway every day, and never picks it up) so i turned around and came back. i'm done. i didn't even log it, i don't think 20 yards walking really counts as a run anyway. meh, think maybe i'll go lay down with a heating pad for a bit.

if you had not told me that your Aunt Flo was visiting...I would have been asking if you may be with child! you know pregnant.

Hope you feel better!!

talked to my dh about coming and racing with you in June....it is truly looking to be a possibility....how fun would that be!?

Lyssa, I hope you are feeling better really soon and hope that the rain comes back for you.

Susie, it would be great if all families could be lovie dovie all the time but some families just don't seem to appreciate each other. My family is mostly functional and supportive but my partner's family is about as dysfunctional as they get. This dynamic has certainly added to Michele's mixed emotions over her mother's death and memorial, etc. Her sister is just a who was emotional and physically abusive to her when they were kids. She's emotionally distant and left almost everything having to do with her mother for Michele to deal with. What I'm trying to say is that your family members are who they are and you either have to accept them that way or insulate yourself from them if necessary. It can be painful, but sometimes it is what your health and sanity requires. As they say, you can pick your friends but you can't pick your relatives. We are your friends and we are here for you!

Andria's check-in #1:

HI!  sorry I dropped off the face of the earth for awhile.  Very busy at work.  Then I had some dental work that sucked the last of the life right out of me.  Very traumatic.  I thought I had a high pain tolerance, but evidently it's only the kind of pain that I am used to that I can tolerate.  My butt still hurts.  (I "clench" when I'm in the dentist's chair)

Get well soon Lyssa...sounds horrible   But I'm glad it was in the evil neighbor's yard that you puked.

I'm going to try to catch up on things here...may take awhile as I see we are winning the award for most pages (64!) of all the mentor groups

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Does check in start on Sunday?  Ok, this is check in #1.

I did my (nearly) 8 miler this morning, and it turned out better than I thought.  Plan was to run it at a 10 minute pace since I had designated it as a longish run.  But it was really strange -- the temp was fabulous (hovering around 50F) however we had big winds today, but it still felt good.  Average pace was about 30 second faster than the plan, but I never felt bad despite the big wind.

The rest of the week is taper for running -- I'll probably go out Mon-Thurs, but no more than 3 or 4 miles each day.  I do plan to swim at least twice, and we'll see how the biking goes.  I can't wait for Daylight Savings Time!  I can't find enough daylight during the week to get any biking in right now.  I could ride my trainer, but that just sucks the life out of me.

Anyone else waiting for DST?  I tend to plan my life around it!

Have a great week!

Yes! DST means I'll have enough evening light to start bike commuting again and be able to get home before dark.

Alyssa- hope you had a great swim!

Julie- way to ride and bike handle with the blow-out. No doubt that your MB skills helped with theĀ  bike handling! I watched as my hubby broke a spoke going down hill at about 40mph just as I pulled up to him, the back tire blew- we thought he was pretty lucky that it was the spoke that went first!

Julie- so happy to hear that your little Lexi is feeling better. Hope you can get back out there soon!

No more procrastinating...back to marking and reports....sigh....

thanks Yvonne....never much thought of it...but you are probably right...downhill mtn bike racing may have saved me from wrecking was flat as a pancake when I pulled over!

good luck with the grading and reports!

It also reminds me of Lance's wacky detour during the Tour a few years ago when there was a crash and he ends up going off roading- they figured his MB and cyclo-cross experience saved him there. Glad you're ok...hope the tire is an easy fix. Were you able to fix and ride home?

That was still one of greatest moments in cycling ... glad to French decided not to doc him for that.

Thanks for all the support -- you are all wonderful.

Thing with the immediate family has been going on for a couple of months, and I'm not sure it will get much better. My brother is not speaking with me (and, while I don't want to get into it, it is NOT for a good reason). But maybe in time.

I ate all the chocolate, so at least I can't eat any more.

I think I might start the no sugar thing early. I've gotta get things under control here. It's always one step forward, one step back, and I never get anywhere.

I'm going to get myself back to the gym tomorrow...

I also downloaded some more podcasts, and a couple of new songs to listen to at the gym.

Well, off to finish the laundry and get myself in bed.

Andria & Susie: nice to see you both posting again.

I got out for a nice run this morning - about 3 miles in a light, wet snow. I had to keep taking off and wiping my sunglasses so that I could see.   Will be heading off to the pool for at least 1500 meters this evening.   Have a great Monday everyone.

is anyone else thinking of lent yet? i know it's coming up here pretty quickly although, i can't remember when exactly. does anyone else "give up something for lent"?  i don't every year, and in fact, right now i can't remember the last time i did, but i've been riding the fence with the meatless thing for about a month now, so i am going to try to go meatless for lent. i'm not including things like milk, eggs, or cheese (although i think i will eventually give those things up too) i am including fish though. i don't normally eat a lot of fish, but i do like me a tuna sandwich sometimes

is it today? in today the start of lent?!? bah! now i gotta go find a calendar. what is it, 40 days before Easter? oh brother, i'm totally hopeless!! LOL

Well group here we are in another wonderful week. I'm still feeling pretty good physically, a little worn out after cooking, visiting friends, going shopping with daughter, and going land hunting. My goal this week is to keep doing long walks, and get a long awaited bike in on Wednesday, it is supposed to be 59 that day.

I hope everyone has a great week...I will look at everyones logs later today after work.

Have a great Monday!!!!!!

I think a lot of people including myself have gotten lost in transition so to speak.... I feel I have no goals right now except to feel good, I have not signed up for any races, I feel fat and out of shape. I haven't ever been so limited physically so really it takes ever bit of mental strength I have to just face each day with a good attitude. It is hard watching everyone here swim, bike and run, and gain strength, endurance, and have fabulous tri futures... I don't be-grude anyone, it is just hard right now.
I go to the doctor Friday so I'm pray that I can be cut loose from the ropes that restrict me...

Jules- I never think your whiney... I think you making people accountable is the glue that holds this great mentor group together, I would expect now less from my number 1 girl

Hi my wonderful team !  My poor girl has bronchitis and a sinus infection, secondary to the croup she had. She is exhausted, and only whined some of one day.....she has been sick since Thursday... and we do the one step forward, two back.
Last night she slept most of the early morning propped up on my arm sitting on the couch.  It was the only way we could calm her caugh.  She is asleep on the couch now, 9:30 and her still in bed is unheard of !  I'm watching that little angel face and I hate that she has had to deal with all of this. Today she will miss her playtime at teh ymca and dance, tomorrow will be school........

I talked to the nurse who is calling in a better caugh supprescant for tonight, I pray it works !

Anyway, spin class tonight once dh is home seems to be all I'll get to today.  Wow, swimming ... I just have no idea since I to take her with me to the sitter at the Y....... never saw the day I'd miss a pool workout !

I have read the GPOL posts, now off to the inspires..........  wish I could take more time to comment on each post but I've got to get some sleep myself ! HUGS ALL

Amy, one of the great things here is that you can pick up and start any time you want. Although there's generally a "tri season" that goes from Spring to Fall there is no season at all for feeling good. The racing and everything is good and fun and sets a goal, but feeling good about yourself, having a positive self image, and setting up a lifelong pursuit of health and happiness is really the ultimate goal.

I hope you get great news from your doctor!

Feeling a lot more optimistic today. I'm going to the gym over lunch and then after work to swim.

I've gained a ton of weight. But I'm trying not to focus on that but instead think about eating healthy and getting back to the gym again.

ahhhhhh thanks Amy...you are like a sister to me! when I was going thru all the rough times last year after my SIL died...you were there for me! I would probably not be doing this BT stuff still if it were not for you and your persistant emails to bring me back! I can not thank you enough! You have a VERY special place in my heart...and you ALWAYS will! I am sorry if I sounded whiny. I now realize after a very smart birdy told me this...and you know who you are birdy!!! we have a great group....and even if we lose a few...the ones we have left are an amazing group...and she (that birdy) is right! but I still would like you guys to try and bombard these MIA teammates with inspires....I know there were times that I left BT and truly thought I would not come back...and then I got PM and when I opened my emails I saw them and one day...I decided to answer a few....and before long I was back...and BACK FOR GOOD! hoping that I can return the favor to some other lost soul out there!

Hope everyone has a good MOnday!....I am going for a swim....yup I figured if I am giving swimming up for Lent...I better get a swim in now!

is anyone else thinking of lent yet? i know it's coming up here pretty quickly although, i can't remember when exactly. does anyone else "give up something for lent"?  i don't every year, and in fact, right now i can't remember the last time i did, but i've been riding the fence with the meatless thing for about a month now, so i am going to try to go meatless for lent. i'm not including things like milk, eggs, or cheese (although i think i will eventually give those things up too) i am including fish though. i don't normally eat a lot of fish, but i do like me a tuna sandwich sometimes

is it today? in today the start of lent?!? bah! now i gotta go find a calendar. what is it, 40 days before Easter? oh brother, i'm totally hopeless!! LOL

Lent starts the day after Fat Tuesday...mardi gras stops, ash Wednesday and Lent start. Me I could not possibly give up meat or fish...but will work on giving up something....does swimming count????

my dear little julee-you can't give up swimming for LENT!!!!! you could give up NOT swimming!! yeah. i think that would just about work. LOL you're killing me!! LOL ooh ooh, you could give up worrying!! that'd do it, let's see, what else could our dear little julee give up for lent? you could give up getting on your scale!! don't step on it ONCE for 40 days!!
silly julee!!

so i'm sitting here with a coughing kid on my lap (thanks for sending us the croup julie!!) he was up all night. nah, i knew he was going to get it. probably the other two too. i had henry and pie pie at the dr's office last week and there was a kid there coughing all over the place. then when i took them to get their haircuts, the chick's son (she cuts hair at her house) was hacking and coughing all over the kids. plus they were hanging out with their cousin last week, and he goes to public school (sometimes i can have my kids NOT catch what's going around, just because they aren't in the school system)
anyway, he's  coughing, my pediatrician  told me once that just regular honey works as well as ANY OTC cough syrup, plus i don't have to hold him down and listen to him scream if all i'm giving him is honey. if it gets really bad, i still have the nebulizer, andi can always take him back to the dr.

still kind of hoping i might get out for a short run today, but it's not looking real hopeful. february always seems to get this way. march will be better. i KNOW it!!

first of all thanks for the "little Julie" entry....havent been called that in some time!

I will do my best to give up worrying....but I worry stress I can not make it 40 days!! LOL

the scale is in the garage. I worry think that if I use it daily...it is my enemy....especially when I have had a really hard week of training and have been really good with intake and only find I have either gained or just maintained the same weight. So no worries...I think I may even donate the silly thing! and go instead on how my clothes are fitting...and I must admit even on those weeks that my weight would go up...my clothes were begining to fall off from being too big!

darn you for not allowing me the opportunity to not swim! Instead...I am getting ready to head to the pool...before the terrantial (sp?) rains come! supposed to be bad this afternoon.

Hope your kids get better soon.....dont worry about cookies, Lyssa. I know you have lots on your hands! NO WORRIES! haha

my dear little julee-you can't give up swimming for LENT!!!!! you could give up NOT swimming!! yeah. i think that would just about work. LOL you're killing me!! LOL ooh ooh, you could give up worrying!! that'd do it, let's see, what else could our dear little julee give up for lent? you could give up getting on your scale!! don't step on it ONCE for 40 days!!
silly julee!!

so i'm sitting here with a coughing kid on my lap (thanks for sending us the croup julie!!) he was up all night. nah, i knew he was going to get it. probably the other two too. i had henry and pie pie at the dr's office last week and there was a kid there coughing all over the place. then when i took them to get their haircuts, the chick's son (she cuts hair at her house) was hacking and coughing all over the kids. plus they were hanging out with their cousin last week, and he goes to public school (sometimes i can have my kids NOT catch what's going around, just because they aren't in the school system)
anyway, he's  coughing, my pediatrician  told me once that just regular honey works as well as ANY OTC cough syrup, plus i don't have to hold him down and listen to him scream if all i'm giving him is honey. if it gets really bad, i still have the nebulizer, andi can always take him back to the dr.

still kind of hoping i might get out for a short run today, but it's not looking real hopeful. february always seems to get this way. march will be better. i KNOW it!!

CRAP !!!! Lyssa I am SOOO sorry you have this stuff on your plate !  Oh man it's so sad and pitiful isn't it ?  I called the docs office today and asked for a caugh suppres (seriously I have to look up how to spell that stupid word).....  for night time.  They said they would call one in THANK GOD ......   This is night six of sleeping with her to make sure she is alive/meds do not take a bad turn/there is no fever/give her water........etc...... she is used to our sleepovers now. lol  I honestly would not be anyplace else.
DH offered to take care of her one morning around 3:00am but I was not budging......."mommy bear " and all.

Hope it passes soon, I had not heard of honey, can you tell me more about that ?

SOOO SORRY !!!!
