They still haven't posted results and I have no clue what my times are. I'll update when I know. The highlights are that I didn't drown and that I have two very successful snot rockets. Nice to se you getting involved in some proper sport (snot rocketing). Well done Salts |

The weather was perfect though, sunny and 70's. I wanted to ride the trainer today but there is no way I am doing that now. I have a run on tap for tomorrow morning and it's my weekly weigh in day. I hope to see the scale moving downward. Good luck with the weigh in I meant to say ditto but computer ran away! I hate weighing in, haven't done so for ages, I just know if my jeans feel tight it's time to cut down, if not eat heartily! |

Only down one pound this week but at least it's a loss. I think I need diet help. Usually I drop weight pretty fast but for some reason I am not this time. I am counting my calories and upping my workouts. Am I not eating enough? Eating too many carbs? My daily calories are in my logs and I usually eat about 50% carbs, 20% protein and 20% fat (yeah, I know that doesn't add up to 100, work with me here. ![]() |

Laid in bed for a few hours not falling back asleep, got up and went to polo match (I haven't been in about 15 years!) at a fancy schmancy country club with a friend, then my fave pizza place - onion and garlic, thin crust, ate the whole thing myself, word. Yesterday was riding (did not get up and run, either. oops) Fell off a pony, oops. Shoulder hurting today even thought it felt like my meaty thigh took the brunt of the fall. THen took my sister in law for her first wine tasting at a local vineyard, fun!! Then to my stepmom's to begin said overindulging with stepmom, stepbrother and his fiance. Great night, lots of chatting, singing disney songs and Rolling Stones, then some missing dad. A little bittersweet. Overall, a lovely weekend, plus we had amazing weather here in Mass. 80, dry and sunny with a light breeze Hahaha! Wait, did you fall off of the pony because of the wine?![]() Or did you give the pony any wine? I think if I had given him some wine, he wouldn't have been able to disappear from underneath me so fast!! |

But then again, only you know the value of the confidence.Asalzwed - 2012-07-22 10:45 PM bcraht - 2012-07-23 12:42 AMOk, I need y'all to make up my mind for me. I am leaving on Tuesday to head to Calgary. I have to work tomorrow, plus I have chiropractor and massage appts. I also have to drop one dog off at grandma's. On top of all that, do I travel one hour-ish to get to an OWS? I will be going by the race venue on my way to where I am staying (it's about an hour away from there), so could try and get one in there, but there may not be others there (safety factor). What to do, what to do.... one swim doesn't seem worth the stress. Isn't your race in a week anyhow? If so, no workouts this week are going to do anything for your performance.True, just more OW experience... I'd be the last (okay, second-to-last) person to recommend missing a chance for OWS or to go into a race-setting OWS unprepared. But I agree with Salty. I think you're okay here and you've got enough to do. As my article says (oh GEEZ somebody hit me with a paddle already, I sound like someone on Fox News) ... breathing and VISUALIZATION can go a long, long way. Your body, and confidence (which is a mental thing) respond to vivid, controlled visualization the same way they would the actual event. |

So I signed up for the only thing that has ever worked for me: Weight Watchers. And I've lost 4 pounds while still pigging out and have some drinks on the weekend over the past month. If I behaved myself on the weekend, I know I'd have lost even more. I've previously lost 25lbs on WW - after 4 months abroad in Australia. This must be why Jo trains for all these Ironman events, there's something in the food/beer there! |

My stress level is through the roof too. I know all this effects weight loss but I'm doing the best I can. Should I just stay the course? A month isn't a very long period of time. Stress, fatigue and medications can each have enormous impact on your metabolism. I'd look at why you're trying to lose weight. If I were trying to deal with, uh, a quarter of everything that you do, I might be inclined to focus on eating as self care--really focusing on energizing, healthful, nutritious whole foods, so that eating supports feeling better as a whole. It's very difficult to lose weight when you're under a lot of stress, whether that's life circumstances, increased responsibility, or large-volume training stress if you're, say, going for an Ironman. Be gentle with yourself, and be good to yourself. You deserve it. |

One pound is great, ESPECIALLY if you are under a lot of stress and have a lot of distractions (and new meds! that's a significant change in your body to have something new in there). And you said it yourself: you're doing the best you can. Take the one pound as a big achievement, and hopefully you will give yourself the credit you deserve. |

I lost most of my weight when I had workouts in the 1 hour to 1:15 range. I think the 15-30 minutes of cardio over a 45 minute buidup is where the pounds really come off. But then again, weight loss is simply calories in vs calories burned so I'm not sure how much this helps. I'm a work it off kind of person, not so much a calorie counting person. |

Be gentle with yourself, and be good to yourself. You deserve it. I should/could have just highlighted the whole thing but that is some damn good advice right there. A month is seriously not enough time and a pound down is a pound down. Just keep on, keepin' on! I had success with weight-loss through a long period of making small, sustainable changes. The bulk of my weight-loss came from managing the food that I ate, not the workouts. Those were just the icing on the cake. Also, do your best not to cut things out as that is generally not sustainable, just try to moderate. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ebshot - 2012-07-23 6:49 AM I've been trying to lose weight for a month. My diet is about the same as last time I dropped weight but no wine this time. My activity level is less (maybe there's the problem!) and I feel fat and exhausted. My stress level is through the roof too. I know all this effects weight loss but I'm doing the best I can. Should I just stay the course? Not sure this will be helpful, but this is my experience. I was logging my calories and workouts, first on myfitnesspal, then here. According to BT, mfp was having me eat way too little calories. My body was constantly in starve mode, hanging on to every calorie for dear life. When I started training for tri, I still had about 10 lbs that I wanted to lose, but realized that I can't lose weight and train for an event at the same time. My body breaks down. So I started focusing on training rather than weight loss. Eating well, and still logging calories, but just to try to keep in=out to keep my body fueled. A few weeks ago (maybe 6?), I fell off the food-logging train. Still eating healthy (for the most part; I still like my beer), just kinda got lazy about logging. For the past few weeks I have been allowing myself pretty much what I want (when I say that I mean good food, not junk), because I have found that works well for me leading up to a race. Just out of curiousity (and not without a little trepidation) I got on the scale this AM--and I am down 4 lbs! I really believe that you have to give your body what it needs, both calorie and nutrient wise, and it responds. Stress and medications DEFINITELY play a role. Try and take a few minutes each day just for you. Give yourself that gift, you deserve it! |

![]() | ![]() How should I structure my swims for the next 4 weeks if I am going to do another sprint tri?Obviously, once again my training won't be great. 4 weeks is not really enough time. Especially since I am still supposed to be taking it easy again this week. But, whatever. I can go to the pool 2 times a week for sure, maybe 3. For an hour at a time. Ish. |
