I had a used VW Golf for a couple of years, and while it was perfect for me and what I needed a car for... I don't know that I'd buy one again.

Though really, as long as we live in a city like Chicago, and where we live - I don't think we even need a car.

A motorcycle is a necessity though.

Two of the Geezerettes drive VWs, a Beetle and a Jetta.  Both were purchased as their first cars and are 13 and 11 years old respectively.  I would say that both have been good cars.  Both had a problem with the radio discharging the battery if not driven regularly when the girls were in college.  They both had problems with the electric window lifts.  Both had problems with the sunroof drains plugging and getting water in the car.  Average or a little better on maintenance, really.  One huge difference has been the quality of VW service in California versus Tennessee.  Tennesse or at least the Knoxville dealer is way better.  Both cars have spent signficant time in California and I haven't found a good, honest mechanic yet.

TW

If you ever do find that honest mechanic, don't ever, ever let them go!  I never found one in Vancouver, and I'm glad I sold that car when I did so that I didn't have to deal with the expense of the repairs.

I got one for you if they're in the San Francisco area. Independent german auto specialist. Went to him for years when I had an Audi.

That is what I was looking for.  The daughter in San Fran has moved to Atlanta now.  The remaining Californian Geezerette is in LA.  She has an independent guy she goes to.  He is honest, just not very good.  The same stuff keeps breaking.

Ive started missing my motorcycles quite a bit.  I believe I'll be picking one up again after I get the medical bills/where I want to live/new job thing figured out.

I had to give up my motorcycle when my daughter was born.  I miss it.

I know how you feel... I miss my Zeus!  (Honda VFR 800 in silver... I loved him!

Yeah, my Triumph Sprint ST was a fantastic bike.

OOoooh - that's one of the bikes that I've always wanted to take out for a test ride!

It wasn't a Sprint, I believe it was a Classic, but I did take one for a spin and sell it before I left CA.

It was part of my ex-boyfriend's inheritance that his uncle let me sell when I started dating him instead and he was so mad about what his nephew had done to me that he let me E-bay/CL his whole inheritance. It was awesome.

The bike was fantastic.  Great power, awesome handling, comfortable for me...literally my only complaint was the under-seat exhaust that cooked you at low speeds

Is it scary that a statement like that coming from Yanti doesn't even register as a weird one? Is more of an "of course this happened to you" than a "what?"

What I noticed was that in a mere 26 words, I saw the whole story unfold like a movie scene.  And then I smiled.

How's the novel coming along, Yanti?
