Just got an email (broadcast email) from Ironman.
Here is what it said:

Modified Cut-Off Times

Based on recent athlete feedback and with the support of Louisville and surrounding communities, the Ironman Team has modified the cut-off times for this year's Ford Ironman Louisville. The following outlines the finalized and official cut-off times:

* SWIM: The swim course will close 2 hours, 20 minutes after the final athlete enters the water. (The unique, time-trial start process will remain in place. To more quickly expedite the swim start, an additional point of entry will be utilized this year, allowing twice as many athletes to enter the water at one time. The final athlete is projected to enter the water at 7:30 a.m.)

* BIKE: Athletes will be required to reach the 61-mile mark on the bike course (located at the intersection of State Road 42 and KY-393 and the start of the second loop) by 2:15 p.m. and have until 6 p.m. to complete the 112-mile course and reach the transition area.

* RUN: Athletes will need to reach mile 14 on the run course (located on Muhammad Ali Drive just prior to the second loop) by 9:15 p.m. and complete the marathon course by midnight.

I have a large group of people from my tri club going up for this race... I am thinking about doing it for next year... and want to go watch to experience the feel of a full Ironman. only delima is that I'm racing Redman the next weekend and will need to train while up there. Also I am in school and cant afford to miss a day of work-school that previous Friday - Monday.

Is there places for me to train that weekend of the race?

Sat: 3 hr ride
Sun: 1:30 run and 2400 swim

IM-LOO is on Sunday, so on Saturday you'll be able to run the course (one loop for 13) and bike as much of the course as you'd like (although there will be plenty of cars checking out the course - but bike-friendly IM athletes, at least).  You won't be able to swim in the river, but I'm sure a google search will turn up a pool (U of Louisville is on the run course).

Nice story in deed. The water police can be a little mall copish at times. But we all know what they are out there for. Ow swims are stressfull enough without the drunk speed boaters out there. Glad you were safe and at least they cared enough to keep an eye on you.
By the way did they let you push the siren. Haha Sorry had to.

Ironman Louisville veterans and those familiar with Louisville- any recommendations for food while we are in town? Any places to avoid? We will be staying at the Galt House, and would like to eat close by if posssible. Thanks

Rough weekend. I'm sick today and it's definatly storming like crazy. So much for my 3 hour ride. Also trying to cram for a neuro test on Wednesday.

Hope to do it tomorrow. Skipping class to be sure to get it done. But storms predicted all day, so it may be a long 3 hours on the trainer.

I'm sure you meant "...perhaps 3rd only to Kona" because as you can obviously tell by the amount of pages, IMKY is second to Kona ;-)

Rode just 50 Saturday, but Sunday was the last long day for me ... ran 13 (legs not in good shape - not a good confidence boost to end on) and swam a pretty fast , for me, 4250m (a great mental boost to end the weekend).

Bring on the taper !!

This last month I've been burning more cals than I can put in, so I'm down about 10 lbs, which is probably an ideal weight for me.
During the slow period, do you eat to refuel (now always hungry) or watch your race weight?

Still no pool.  The college pool has been closed all summer due to changing the drain requirements and the gym pool closed the 1st to have new liner put in.  It was to open today but now the pump is not working.  They said check in Weds or Thursday...dont they know I have to swim! Wink

I took yesterday off. I was supposed to ride for an hour but way waaaay tired. Today I'm rearing to go! My legs are all twitchy and I'm aching to run. Strange, because running is by far my least favorite of the three.

60 min easy ride later.

BRING ON THE RACE!
