You often get better bang for your buck with used bikes but it helps to have a good idea what size you need. Have you tested anything yet? The usual advice is "test ride lots of bike" (but I never did that). |

My ankle is pretty swollen after my run from Sat. So I opted out of my run today. Tomorrow I will see how it is and get some aqua jogging in in replace of running if that is ok. Will see how things are on Thursday and will try to get a run in then. And see where it takes me. If it doesn't get better I will try to do the rest in aqua jogging but not sure I could handle the amount of min, I have in running in the water! I'm sorry you are hurt. Are you icing it, elevating it, and taking ibuprofen? Please don't endanger yourself for the challenge. Do contact Dee about adjusting your goal. I sprained it the middle of May and it was doing great..iced and ibuprofen on schedule but it has been feeling great and the swelling was gone so I stopped. I think just did too much with the 10 mile and didn't ice after. |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: June Bugs kcarroll - 2009-06-24 2:15 PM I signed up for the Tour. Am in Paris this week, so how could I not? Going to be interesting though as I'm traveling a lot of July. Will have to count on the weekends as I've never been very good at getting any biking in while out of town. I had a lovely dinner at a sidewalk cafe tonight. French bread, French cheese, French wine. Boy they do all three of those superbly well. Makes up for my aching feet and back. Spent all day standing and wearing a lead apron, and am totally whipped. No run tonight. Maybe in the morning, before another day on my feet. Thank god for orthotics. your meal sounds lovely! |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: June Bugs I have to say this is my first challenge that I did not meet goal I will say the last run challenge I had the same goal and made it but it was a tough...but that is what makes it a challenge! I should have taken into consideration my ankle when I joined. I will talk to Dee as I feel bad for the rest of the team. Now if I join the bike I am also worried about going too easy/hard and I don't want to let my team down! |

The usual advice is "test ride lots of bike" (but I never did that). I've never had a road bike before, so all of them feel weird. I'm gonna check some more in the afternoon. I was on a hybrid with upright posture before I bought a road bike so I started with one with more upright posture, a Specialized Sequoia. I used this bike for my first two tris but within a year I wanted something more aggressive. Knowing the reach length and other geometry from this bike I felt pretty safe buying a used frame (Specialized Allez) from eBay and built up my race bike over a winter. I bought my tri bike used from another member of my tri club from a woman who is almost the exact same size as me and had the chance to test ride it first. I only tried out a couple other bikes before buying the Sequoia and none before the Allez or tri bike. It's not the recommended procedure but it's working out pretty well for me. I more bikes you try the more you will understand the new position and the characteristics of different bikes. It's possible that none will feel exactly right because you are unfamiliar with the riding position but it's also possible that you'll know exactly the right bike because it will feel exactly right. Good luck! |

Expert 616 searching for the elusive runner's high! | Subject: RE: June Bugs Soooo...my morning run was supposed to put me over my goal but I woke up a little late and ran what I could in order to get my daughter to camp on time. Crazy as it sounds, I miscalculated the distance and I am .16 shy of my goal! Needlesstosay, I will be running tomorrow or Saturday to finish it up. So frustrating!! How is everyone else doing today? |

Veteran 369 Fairbanks | Subject: RE: June Bugs I got up early today to do my run. The point of this was to A) get it over with and out of the way and B) avoid being too hot while running after work. Then it got down to forty degrees last night... I was SOOOO cold on the run this morning. And my legs are really tight because I didn't take enough time to stretch for such a chilly run. I'm trying to stretch at my desk now. But still . . . at least I'm done!! |

Another piece of advice: don't go into a shop and tell them you want a woman specific design. Instead, try regular and WSD bikes to see what feels better. I'm good on a unisex bike. |
