Hey Everyone!

MIA again for me. Sorry about that.  Life threw a curve ball and I had to have some unplanned dental work. (tooth extraction..big tooth )   That caused me to miss a few training days and I still can't get back in the water. Hopefully that will change on Friday. It is a very good thing that IMFL is wetsuit legal and in salt water. If nothing else I can scull my way through the course

I am trying to ignore all the posts in the IMFL thread about all the volume people have done.  I was feeling like I was more prepared for IMFL then I was for IMAZ up until last week. Hopefully, now that I am back to training, I will regain some of that feeling.  Of course having the race numbers posted has caused a whole new level of nervousness.  It is like someone hit me over the head and said "hey you, you know you have to do an IM in four weeks don't you?"

Off to read Adam's race report!

Wesley12 - 2012-10-03 5:21 PM I've been MIA here lately.  Just getting to the end of my IMFL training.  I raced Augusta last weekend and I'm happy with the results.  I PRed by 54 minutes from Florida 70.3 last May.  I'm getting extremely nervous about my first full.  I've just got trust my training and push through.

Trust the training Wesley!! Congrats on the PR!

Thanks for the update!

You are going to do great Kathleen!! You still have a couple of weeks before taper.  You are right in ignoring those posts in the forum, you have a plan and a coach that will get you there ready to race.  I wish I was racing it with you and Wesley!

Ha! good to see some of the old group posting again!

T-pace workout for me last night.  I don't know what I was expecting since my swim has been lacking lately and I'm just now over my shoulder issue.  I was still dissapointed with a 1:56 T-pace.   Just another thing to work on I guess.

Looking forward to this weekend.  I'm going down to Ottawa (Starved Rock) to do the Pumpkin Pie Century ride.  103 miles of gorgeous IL road!!    Oh....and Pumpkin Pie baby!!! LOL  My coach is doing it with me and a few others we recruited to try and break a 20mph avg for the ride.  Hope the weather holds out!

We may have found someone to rent our house in Wyoming after over a year of trying to sell it - I will hopefully know tomorrow - keep your fingers crossed for me! It would be a huge weight of my shoulders.

TGIF!!

This Sunday is the Denehy family run-a-palooza. I've got a 16 mile training run, then my wife is doing her first 5k and it is my job to pace her to a 46:00 finish. Then, if it isn't raining my 6 year old has a one miler that I'll pace him on just to make sure he doesnt go out like a madman and then can't finish. Kids seem to only know 2 speeds, sprint and stopped.

This morning started rough. I was headed out to the school where my masters team swims, early so i could get in a 1:30 run. I got a speeding ticket on the way. While i totally deserved the ticket, the deputy sheriff left me waiting for 45 minutes while he wrote the ticket. I started wondering if he fell asleep in his patrol car or if i was on some terror watch list and the SWAT team would be on the scene any minute. Anyway, i have a run to make up, and a debt to pay to society (hopefully no insurance points though...)

Happy training folks!

Got my fingers crossed for you Robin!  Just went through that whole ordeal with my sister in-law.  What a mess!  They were upside down on 1 place, wanted to move, so rented it out and bought another, got tired of that place, rented that out and bought another.  So with 3 place upside down on mortgages they had an expensive problem in their condo downtown.  They couldn't afford to fix it.  Unfortunately, the place became un imhabitable because it was a mold problem.  They asked us if we could let let them move in with us.  Plus told us they couldn't afford to pay us anything to cover expenses.  I told them it's time to do the responsible thing and let the one place go and move back into one of the others when the tenants lease is up.  In the meantime I said they could stay with us.  Well.......that wasn't good enough!  They wanted to stay with me indefinitely while they continued to play real estate mogul and collect rents on the other two properties.  I told them that it was an expense and inconveinience for them to be living with me rent free.  They got very angry, and haven't talked to us in months!   Gotta love family drama!  Not that your in this situation, I just feel for you!

Doing the Pumpkin Pie Century ride this weekend in Ottawa.  Going to be a coooooooold one!!! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Bill,

My wife has a goal of running the local 5K in Nov. She wants me to help her set the pace. Thats gonna be tough - I only know 1 speed on 5k's and thats go until you feel like pucking!

Do it,Adam, just leave your competitive side at home. I'm actually going to practice doing a 15:00/mile shuffle before Sunday. Since my wife has such tiny legs, the trick is to keep that pace without walking. She finds it discouraging if I walk at her run pace :-). I'm really proud that she's out there cranking it out. She wasn't built for speed so I think its a lot harder to stay motivated. I picked up a Moto-activ thingy for the kids to give her after the race. That might turn her onto more outside running in the fall. So far she does mostly treadmill workouts.

Great weekend!  Spent some time in the trails on the MTB, and did my first century ride.  It was a little cold but not too bad around here.  Could have been a lot worse.  I'm glad to get these in before I have to move indoors!

Nice job on the run Ken.  I saw it in your log, you ready for taper now?  Set a goal?

Enjoy you taper Ken!  I had a pretty good weekend.

Saturday was an exercise in logistics to squeeze in a long ride and a brick-like run.

Sunday we ran.  A long run for me, then my wife's 5k.  She made it, but was ready to kill me at several points.  First neither of us expected it to be a very hilly, rocky, single-track trail.  For some reason I was picturing a groomed carriage trail :-).  So that didn't help our time.  I also steered her on a wrong turn, adding about 1/3 mile of pain to an already hard run for her.  So the times weren't great, but she's already planning her next try at that distance (on the road).  Then me and my 6 year old executed on a solid 10:30 1 mile race.  I was awful proud to see him passing lots of kids on the way back.  It looks like he is embracing the negative split, like his old man...

Today is recovery with a long swim.  Then back to the grind :-)

Not much taper this week, although the focus will be more on pace work. Next week I am traveling for work so there will probably be a couple of rest days.  I like running where I will be in California, but I am in Wisconsin for a couple of days and the running is good, but it is on unlit paths so I probably won't be able to run there.

Still thinking on the goal, I would like to set a new PR, and I think I can.  In a perfect world I would be close 10 1:40, but anything under 1:44:30 would be good.

It was pretty cool!   Course was pretty flat with some steep climbs and some rollers.  We did the first 50 at a solid 20mph pace.  Then the late day wind started to pick up and really started to slow us down.  I was supposed to go easy on my MTB ride the day before.  But a good friend and MTB rival came out with me.  We both said we were doing our "easy" pace, but I think we both knew better!! LOL  So Sunday, I started to crack around mile 50.  I got spit out of the back of the group after doing most of the pulling up to that point at a 20mph avg.  It was like yesterdays ride hit me like a ton of bricks.  I settled in to my own pace for a while and met back up with the group at the next rest stop.  Then got spit out again! lol.  At the last rest stop, I found a second wind.  I got spit out one more time but fought my way back and finished with the rest of the group!
