Thanks I am struggling with achilles and thigh problems so have no expectations. And scared of the hills :-) Quick question. If the heart is not in this one, why are you choosing to do it since you hadn't really planned on it in advance?
I will be careful. If I come off the bike with any pain I will stop. I ran this morning and it was so/so. Felt fine after but hurts now. I'm doing it for a few reasons. It's paid for anyways and I registered my son as a volunteer and he really wants to do that. His mom is away so it's kind of father/son weekend. Things may be just fine, but I don't have any expectations so I won't be disappointed. I will try a few things on the nutrition front. Worst case I'll do a nice bike ride. Best case I'll finish. Either case it will be fun.
So you are racing? Be safe and best of luck.

![]() Fred D - 2012-09-07 11:36 AM I ask only one thing of the future of this group: No mention or linking to any main forum threads. By all means we can discuss topics that are SBR and discuss nicely here, but I would really like this group to be about SBR, fun and supporting each other. I've got no problems with that...but just to make sure I'm interpretting this correctly, it's okay to link a main thread article if it's a good discussion on training to see what others in the group think? |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Works for me Fred. On that note, your post this morning about the 9.5k run I did being too long got me thinking. At what point do you start thinking about structured training again post IM? I was thinking a month of just doing whatever I felt like would be about right but the last few days I've started to feel the itch to do more and to have an idea of what I want to be doing for the next week etc. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-09-07 7:41 PM Again I just want to avoid the hyperbole and bs that goes on. I've been guilty of dragging that stuff in here before.... Just trying to improve things. So if a thread starts off there with a good question but then degenerates into bs, let's just bring the question in. I think we have all been guilty of bringing TT into this thread. The thing is the main forums are going to mold themselves. Nothing anyone can do to stop it, whether you, me or another person participates is their business. I know it is frustrating to see the junk being posted, but perspective is key. Just like when I watch or listen to the news I simply turn off the politics part. Your peace is said Fred we all identify your frustrating and passion. Some may quietly site other may not. Let us all just retire a talk SBR. I am good with that. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I told Bobby today that If I do well at Savageman peer pressure would probably work for getting me to sign up for Rev3 Quassy. Just saying. That would be challenging race season for 2013. Rev3 Quassy - June 2nd Mont-Tremblant 70.3 - Jun 23rd IronmanLake Placid- Jul 28 I say to myself that if I did those races I could do Mont-Tremblant 70.3 easy. Yeah right like that would work after the cannon went off. |

To me unless you have some other goal like another race or something why do structured training. I would stay ez yet active in swim bike run assuming by you meaning structured in a training plan. Just my thoughts

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Fred when you start a new mentor group you should titled it “Swim, Bike and Run no BS” Then you can list your rules of play. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() tri808 - 2012-09-06 3:53 PM Jason when I was an active CAT II racer I still ran 2-3 times a week. Although cycling was still by far my main event with 250-350 mpw I did managed to get the runs in. I found keeping some base running mileage in really help. Most likely thinking back it was 8-12 miles per week but ymmv.Ran for the first time yesterday in over 3 months. Just 3 miles on the treadmill at a 10 mm pace just to see what would happen. Leg muscles felt fine, cardio was good, but as expected the joints and tendons were a little stiff. Planning on swimming for the first time in over 3 months tomorrow...that should be even more interesting!!! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don’t share a lot. Especially thing that show I am human and not a machine. Maybe I just think they would be boring........but here it goes. So this past Tuesday night at 10 pm I laid down to go to sleep and quickly a pain developed in my right ankle. Sort of top front below the ankle bone/joint 1” deep. I laid there for about an hour then decided to take an aspirin. This would be my first aspirin or any pill in over 4 months. No effect, so I thought I would ice it, again another hour with ice maybe more. Man I was dead tired. I finally fell asleep about 3am. I woke up still in pain. Got up a limped around got ready for work and then the more I moved the more it felt better. By the end of the day on Wednesday I had my training done and no pain in the right ankle. So weird! Actually held about 16-20 mpw for most of the summer (until my big races came up), with 1 swim a week. But I was only riding 4x per week and I knew I was going to do a December marathon so I couldn't just let my run die off for 3 months. I was planning on running in the 10 mpw range this summer, but for one reason or another, it just didn't happen.

![]() Good luck again to everyone racing. Going to also give a shout out to Experior (Michael) who was my mentor last year as he's racing IMWI. My weekend will finally be care free. Just train with absolutely nothing in mind. Likely ride about 60 miles Saturday, then go to a bowling fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Sunday just run whatever I feel like, then watch some football (NFL starts at 8am in Hawaii). Then going to play some golf in the afternoon. |

Personally I tend to go fairly easy, almost wish I could train more now, but am careful as I injured myself after last years IM. Patience. Arend I would run short and easy. Swim for fun and ride on weekends when you can.axteraa - 2012-09-07 8:00 PM Works for me Fred. On that note, your post this morning about the 9.5k run I did being too long got me thinking. Thanks guys. I will have to really try to hold myself back for a bit longer. By structured training I didn't necessarily mean a formal training plan but more than just "what should I do today?". Things like planning to run 3-4 times/week and ride 2-3 etc. The swim for fun thing would be the toughest. When I get in the pool my instincts usually kick in and I beat the snot out of myself. Fortunately my pool is closed for a week so I can't go there even if I wanted to. |

Just getting old I think. |
