saltydog7mile - 2009-08-16 6:44 PM Ironman Louisville veterans and those familiar with Louisville- any recommendations for food while we are in town? Any places to avoid? We will be staying at the Galt House, and would like to eat close by if posssible. Thanks

I hear there is a good Italian Restaurant that Rick Pitino likes to eat at...

long time lurker, 2nd time poster.... just wanted to post this interesting interview for those that think they feel undertrained. I feel like I'm no where near to being ready for this IM (bring on the 1/2 Iron), but after reading what this guys training consists of, I feel much more confident in my abilities to make it across the finish line.

Sounds like my training for the summer. Only I don't have his raw talent. So that should bode well for me. My dad the other day put it into perspective when I was worrying about not doing enough. He asked if I had done everything that I possibly could have done to get ready without losing my wife, child, and job. I thought about it and I am pretty sure I have. Sure there were a few things I could have added but in general I have done the best I could possibly do with the given circumstances. This has not been an easy summer for me and that is not even including the Ironman training. So I felt a little better once I thought about what he had said.

I would like to think I have done as much as I possibly could to compete on 8/30.  The only thing I would do differently is not fall off my stupid bike and fracture my arm!  Oh well...
Training would be so much easier if I didn't work 60 hours a week - night shift/day shift and have a husband and child to clean up after....Oh and do all the laundry, clean the whole house, cook, grocery shop, doctors appts, walk the dog....
So yeah, I feel did the best I could given the circumstances.

Ditto on the wise Dad comment!  Well put and it gave me reason to say: Yup....did what I could and race day will be whatever it will be at this point!"

Tell your Dad THANKS! for the perspective!

Below is an event being put on before the race to raise funds for the fellow racer that was killed during a tri in KY.  Looks like they are trying to start a tradition like they do in Kona with the underpants run. Sounds like it could be fun. I did a training ride with some of this group and they all seemed like great people.

"Sorry for the delay guys, but between being unemployed and training for an ironman. I have been a little stressed to say the least.

Saturday August 29th at 11:00am. We'll meet up at 4th street live and make a 2 mile mile fun run down to the transition area and back along downtown streets.

As far as entry fees, there are none, but it would be nice if we all could make a contribution to a charity close to our own hearts. But if you don't have a charity, I have an idea.

We had a triathlete get killed by a motorist during a race a few weeks ago. His name is John Carr, I had raced with John in May and he left a wife and young children behind. All Republic bank locations are accepting donations for his family. Those donations will be greatly needed, and as we all know, it could have been any of us that day.

So please join me and all our crazy friends at 4th street live and lets have a good time and start our ironman Louisville off right, with a smile on our faces."

I'm predicting my number will be in the 300's.  Last year at 26 yo I was 267.  So if Rogillio was racing he could work up some equation and figure out your number.

All else fails, just call'em and bug the hell out of them.  Hey it worked last year!

I'm hoping race #'s come out tomorrow... that's my prediction.

Training is getting tedious.  My hour and a half ride turned into an hour... I felt okay but there was absolutely NO top end.  Every time I tried to put the hammer down my brain said go and my legs said no. Kind of disappointing but to be expected I suppose.

looks pretty promising. Hopefully we can have one less thing to worry about: the heat.
I forgot, what does 63 degrees feel like? I live in Houston, so it's been a long time since I've felt that kind of cool weather. Does that make for a chilly bike ride? Would I need arm warmers?
