Tri-run, nothing turtlish at all about your race! Congrats!

Sam, your comment about the bike helmet reminds me of a funny story that I'm not (too) ashamed to tell.  Coupla years ago at the Steelcase Duathlon, I was concentrating so much on a smooth transition from the bike to final run leg.  Racked the bike, pulled on my shoes, and whoosh--I was outta there.  About a mile into the run people are looking at me funny.  I was still running with my helmet on.  Duh.  So I pulled it off and stashed it on the side of the road in some bushes (like I knew what I was doing).

You know, it might actually come in handy on the run.  You never know when you might trip and fall and ... yeah, I'm a dork.

Tailwinds,

Todd

Fesslern:
I've got a Giro Adv2. Very comfortable and hopefully gives back a few watts. I've been debating wearing a road helmet for heat regulation though at IM Louisville. Can't make up my mind. Did a May HIM in Florida. temps topped at ?85 degrees maybe. felt fine.

Marathongirl:
Appreciate your insight on iamtri's training days. I may drive up for the July 10th or Weekend July23 days. It's a 5+hr drive for me. I'd like to ride course and organize strategy for race. Did you just meet up as recommended, pay your SAG money and go? Did the group break-up much? I'd have to take some cue notes with me for course I guess. I'm notorious for going out and adding 20miles onto a ride due to wrong turns.. (banjo playing in background, etc).

Hey, no prob!  They are super organized with written route maps and everything.  Everybody collects in the parking lot, pays their dues & signs in, they give a little speech and point out all the helpers (who are dressed in matching shirts), and then we all headed out together.  There were probably 60 or so people, give or take.  Yep, the group splits off into little groups.  Everybody was so nice.  I went down by myself, met a guy who was by himself too and we rode together most of the time.  I'm going back on July 23rd & Aug 6th.  There were people from everywhere; Alabama, Georgia, Tennesse, Indiana, Florida, there was even a guy there from Poland!  (They ask where people are from during the check-in/speech).  If you decide to come to one let me know and we'll have to meet up and say "Hi"

Me and LindaKC are planning on August 6 as well... woot!

EDIT: OMG I just saw this on the iamtri web site...

Cost of SAG is $10/rider and excess funds are donated to charity through our Underpants Charity Run on the Saturday before Ironman Louisville.

Off to find information about the underpants run Kiss

My support crew all did the underpants run last year. I watched. Funny!

Ok, BT'ers, here it is. I don't have a code for the masses, but if you have an interest in winning a GU Sampler, all you have to do is e-mail me at my direct e-mail ([email protected]) and let me know that you are interested. I'll take all the names and pull them out of a hat. I'll announce the winner here, and then I'll e-mail you to see what address you want it shipped to.

I was going to have people post on my blog or something, but then I thought I would keep it simple. You are eligible simply because you are here and you are on this journey with me to IMLOU.

I am NOT collecting e-mails to send to GU or anything like that. I just want to give those who might not have tried GU or want to try different GU products, or different flavors a chance to do so.

So...e-mail me with GU SAMPLER GIVE-AWAY in the subject line and let me know you are interested, and you will be in! Simple for the Sampler!

Good luck! Peace, ~Sam

OH! I FORGOT! I'll make the announcement of the winner a week from today. So, you have until next Wednesday to enter. I think that's it. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

RACE REPORT: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=256918

I did the Triceretops Triathlon yesterday evening. (.5mi/12mi/3.1mi). Placed 10th of 446 overall, and 2nd of 56-ish in the 40-44 age group.

Swim- 13:46; T1-1:15; Bike-30:11 (ave. 23.85 mph); T2- :57; Run- 19:06 (6:06 p/mi)

If you want the full race report, you are welcome to click on the link above. I'm thrilled with how it went. Especially with the run. At present I have not suffered any dire consequences regarding my decision to push it with my Achilles. It seemed ok in the moment, but adrenline can create deception. Nevertheless...I'm hopeful. Tomorrow's run will be more telling.

Peace...Sam

Sam-If I recall correctly, you mentioned that you wanted to break 12 hours at IM Louisville.  By no means am I attempting to jinx it, but it seems to me with your splits you can walk...... BACKWARDS....and still finish in less than 12.  Your swim is solid and your bike is superb.  If your distance running and ankle can hold up, you will finish, shower, eat, and cheer on the rest of us within 12 hours.  Impressive stuff

Nice.. Now you just need to make sure you can hit those numbers for 2.4, 112 and 26.2 miles and you will be sitting pretty good. I'd say somewhere just south of 8:40.

Anyone: Another terribly interesting Road to Ironman Louisville, Episode available. It highlights my trip to and from my triathlon, shots at the event, and a little goofiness at the end.

Congrats, Sam, et al!  I have no doubt that IM Louisville will go well for you even if you run/walk conservatively, and to the rest of you, truly inspiring stuff.  I know that this site is named "beginnertriathlete.com," but I feel quite outclassed by everyone's accomplishments--kudos to you all!  To be honest, my smiling and rejoicing at IM Louisville will begin as soon as I (hopefully) exit the water before the cut-off time, if I can do it (getting in line about 3am, probably, the maximize the swim period).  The rest will truly be the "frosting" for me.

Bleah ... the big water (aka Lake Michigan) is still below 60 degrees, and my first Oly Tri is next Sunday.  Hopefully, it won't end up being a duathlon, but we'll see.

Wow, keep up the great work, everyone!

Tailwinds,

Todd

My rejoicing will be exiting the water in the swim time cut-off as well. I am doing a 2.4 mile OWS race (ha ha, I won't really be "racing) on July 2nd so I will get an idea of just how slow I am.

TRISAM: Way to put down the hammer. Chris Lieto called and wants his bike split back.

I'm 90% locked in to do the iamtri.com group ride in Louisville on July 10th. Did 105mi this week. It's sad that I once thought 56miles was monster long.

Question for IM veterans: Did you try to even pace the marathon or go out faster anticipating a fall-off in last 10K+? Just been doing a little strategy thinking...yes I know..a little tri-OCD...it's incurable.

Thanks,
Doc
