It's 6:30 a.m.here and I just checked on her. Doesn't look like she finished the bike. Wonder if she had mechanical problems. It takes a lot of hootspah (sp?) to even toe the line at the swim start though. She's our Yanti and I'm still damn proud of her!!

One of my race mantras is Piglet. Burger. Piglet. Burger. Strangely enough I found myself (a long time later) seated at a McDonald's waiting for the shuttle to the finish area (45km away from transition area). A very nice British piglet approached me and said could he do anything for me, and I said yes please, I would like a cheeseburger meal and your company. I got both

When I finally got back to my apartment, a big orange cat darted in and refused to leave. Loved being petted and was great company until I tried to make him leave.

Again, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU and a big {MELON PRESS} to all.

Quick race update with report to follow:

I ran my 10k in 1:02:18 and was 650th out of 731 finishers in my age group of 40-49.

My actual start placing was 3453rd and i finished 3351st gaining 101 places (Total field of 4375). Quite happy to take that for my first ever race.Smile

Didnt stop or walk except to take my shoe off at 6k and rearrange my sock- not that it stopped the blister.  Somebody should invent the mantra 'nothing new on race day'

legs a little achie !?! but in good spirits.

Hope your all having a good weekend.

I'm here! I'm here!  I've been logging my training, but haven't had a chance to sit and chat on BT.  I'm so exited for your IM Yanti!  Can't believe it's almost here.  I'm sure we will all be watching your progress on athlete tracker on the ironman website.

My biking and running are going fine.  Swimming has been a struggle lately.  I've been having ear issues and am going to have ear tubes put in my ears this Thursday.  I feel like a little kid having this done but even adults get ear tubes, LOL.

I've had ear problems my whole life.  I was born with a cleft palate and even though it was repaired when I was a baby, I still got constant ear and sinus problem during my childhood.  Typical of kids with a history of cleft palate.  My hearing has also gotten worse over the years and it looks like I'll be getting hearing aids as well.  I'm looking forward to this as the quality of my life has diminished because everyone sounds like the teacher on Charlie Brown.  Sooo, I'm very exited to be able to hear my kids and co-workers again...but then again....

I am so glad you got that fixed!!!! How did your swim go with them?

Spoke too soon about being a little achie. By last night i was in serious trouble with lots of aches, pain in my knees, man flu (and we all know how serious that is), shivers and then sweats. I think i got a touch of sunstroke!! whilst running as it was a glorious day here in England and i also now have to add a hat to my running apparel or re-grow my hair. Fortunately things felt better this morning but i need to shake the cold that i have picked up because i am struggling to breathe properly and want to get out and build up my training.

Nice to see so many manatees posting. Who's racing next?

Ohhhh boy! Well, I am glad you are feeling better!!!! Man flu...I like that term.

I'm not "racing" this weekend but for my birthday we will be running to a few different breweries and in my opinion, brewery touring and running is much more difficult than racing Wink

That is an Awesome idea!

One of the breweries here is real bike/cop friendly so we have a beer n bikes beer dinner set up as a charity event on April 13th, beer and exercise who says they don't play well together?

Not racing just playing security for the racers, 50,000 people are about to descend on Charleston this week for the Cooper River Bridge Run, luckily the expo is at the same location as my office so I'll be able to go see the race time deals.  Awesome suggestion on the DeSoto 400 miler shorts, did a 2+ hour trainer ride today and no numbness in the feets! Still plan on rechecking the fit though.

Saw Yanti out there on the bike Special Needs aid station - she was in a bad way (didn't realise it was her or I would have been even MORE supportive) - I gave her a hug anyway (the lengths us voLunteers go to!) and tried to get her to think positively that she just has to get through the second lap then start the run and it's in the bag.  BUT she was beyond that at that stage, very cold (most of the asians were suffering from the cold)

I'm devastated she didn't finish but at least she tried and was out there giving it her best shot!  Her time will come....what an individual!

"man flu". That's funny.I am doing a classic distance ( .5 , 19 , 4) tri this weekend. It's on south beach in Miami, so there is no chance of hypothermia for me I have a badly pulled hamstring, so the run will be more painful than usual!

That's really neat that you saw her. It sounds like she had a really rough time, good you could be there to offer comfort even if neither realized who the other was.

Can't believe you guys haven't heard of man flu before. Over here it's a famous condition that is defined as 'any sniffle or bit of a temperature a man gets that renders him useless and in need of lots of attention' (thats my definition, not that of the British Medical Association). Widely used, it has become synonymous with mans natural predisposition to need sympathy and inability to do even the simplest of tasks.  If this is new to you lot on that side of the pond, do you think i can patent it in the US before it gets popular??

On a lighter note, for there is nothing more serious than man-flu, take it steady on your run Ann-Marie cos you don't want to crock yourself and ruin future training. Will be thinking of you slogging through the pain this weekend. Which day are you doing it?

Finally, if my patent on man flu is not accepted, i think i could start a new market in knitted tri-tops. My wife has just bought some more wool and i was wondering if anyone knows what size Yanti is cos i don't want her getting cold again.Wink
