Master 1780 Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Question:What is the recommended recovery for the HM? I understand that it depends on each individual, but my first tri of the year ( a sprint) is in Mid April, and due to my HM training my bike and swimming are behind, so I would like to start ASAP with a full schedule. However, I know that if I don't give my body time to recover, I'll be looking for trouble. So what do you think? A couple of days off after the race? Easy first week? |

No running or minimal, lots of swimming and some bike at low efforts.Question:What is the recommended recovery for the HM? I am making the conscious decision to avoid racing for a while, which is tough. My favorite 5 miler is this weekend and I am taking the pass since I am not 100%. You're being smart and THAT is what counts. You have a lifetime of racing ahead so put it in perspective to ease the urge. If you rushed you are risking re-injury, which I've seen decimates (morally especially) a lot of endurance athletes. You're an awesome athlete and it will not take long for you to get to an even better level that you were. |

Does this mean I can take the free plan and import it into my training log? More importantly, has anyone used the BT HIM 20wk plan - comments/feedback? I used this plan for my first HIM. It will get you there if you follow it. The program is good for a while, but like any plan you get to a point where you learn what needs to give and what needs to be pushed. My feeling is that plan is way too swim heavy and not enough focused on the bike. That said, going into my first HIM, I was way psyched out on the swim so I felt that I needed the extra assurance. The reality is that you don't need 3000+ yd swim sets when training for a HIM. It is certainly a good way to go for your first hiM. Matthew, Joe - I appreciate your comments - I definitely want to start and finsih my HIM safely and not looking to win, so will follow the plan and adapt if necessary. Cheers, Mark. |

Veteran 112 Wollongong | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Perfect morning for a ride. Saturday. I was out before sun up, no wind and warm enough for short sleeves. I was riding through the quiet country roads past the cows and horses when the sun finally rose. The birds were out with Kookaburras and Magpies greeting me. By the time I cut across to the coast the surfers were hitting the water and stand up paddlers were... standing. 3:23 hrs in total and I'm ready to start the day. Hopefully a swim this afternoon. Have a great weekend everyone. Mitch - Swim - 4 / Bike - 10 / Run - 13 / Rest - 2 / Total 27 / Time - 20:04:05

Master 1780 Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Weather for the race sunday was supposed to be high 50's. I checked today, and forecast is low 40's! Thankfully no rain, but not sure what to wear. I have not run in low 40s since last year. I am wearing my shorts, calf sleeves, and hat, but undecided about shirt. I tried to run with gloves last year in mid 40s and did not work, so that's an easy decision. I have a long sleeve light shirt, or a long sleeve heavier shirt. I am NOt cold prone, and would hate to feel over dressed by the mid-way point. Any suggestions recommendations? |
