Artemis - 2008-09-16 10:34 AM I'm tired. Mouse surgery is no fun.

Did Mickey survive?
LOL

Uh...no. They were not expected to. We were harvesting bone marrow.

Well, people donate bone marrow without dying....

Why can't a mouse????

Come on... tell the truth... you're just working on creating a skeleton for your creepy haunted house model, right? You're harvesting BONE not bone marrow.... LOL

Oh...no.  The whole thing actually makes me sad.  I hate this part of science.

Yes, but I also understand why we do it.  It's important research (at least I think so) and it should help people.  It's still sad.

I understand completely.

At least you're not using dogs in your research. I couldn't deal with that....

Actually, I couldn't deal with killing mice, either. Yes, I know it's supposed to help people. But even so........

Someone needs to find a way to make computer models realistic enough that we don't need to use animals anymore....

I have sort of a funny story about a mouse

when I was about C's age, 12 or 13 we lived in a house that had a big field behind the backyard - it was a great place for field mice to hide

anyway, I was in the kitchen and I opened a drawer and here were these two beady eyes staring up at me - it scared the carp out of me - I screamed, slammed the drawer shut and heard the mouse slide in the drawer (at a rather quick pace), slam into the back of the drawer and then............nothing

I slowly opened the drawer and there he was just laying there.  I knocked him out

don't worry, he was fine, I took the drawer out, worried the whole time that he would come to and crawl on me or something

I took the drawer out to the field and put the poor little mouse back in his home

the end

I am feeling a little better every day-not great yet, but that's life.

I have switched to my new schedule with the kids

12:30-5:50

This way I can go to school full time-the courses I want are only available in the morning.

Dinner is on the stove-p'sgetti tonight.

Yep.  It's on now, but we're recording it.  It's so nice to watch TV without commercials.
