![]() | ![]() I am not really sure about theme music, but pump me up, get my mind right music... Race morning... fire up the ipod with the 'Battle' from Gladiator soundtrack.... it's 10 minutes and eases into some serious pump you up ~ I am gonna crush this race (workout) ~ music! Lately too ~ Burn It Down by Nickleback Linkin Park is usually good for this too! Theme music.... I am humming the Peanuts Theme song, wondering if that will get me through the day! lol! ![]() | ![]() trihardathena - 2009-10-30 2:29 PM Still trying to figure out what the heck to wear on Race Day. In ALL of my races, I have worn a trisuit but am concerned that the chamois is not thick enough for 112 miles. I considered wearing bike shorts OVER the tri suit (one of the girls in my tri club is doing that) for more padding and did a 50 mile ride like that an it wasn't bad. The problem is comfort stops. Thats alot of stuff to take off if I do it that way. In T 2 it would be a matter of stripping off the bike shorts and swapping shoes...What do you guys think??? That sounds like a decent plan... I am a fan of the one piece tri-suit, but for this kind of distance I didn't wanna have to deal with it if I have to make a 'sit-down' head call. I could certainly see how that would be a pain in the tri-suit for the women competitors. Your plan seems the 'easiest' given wet skin to change in/out of. Strippin' all the way down and changing - will suck up some time - to dry off, get dressed, etc. However, like many have said ~ comfort for a long day trumps the faster transition times. |

Member ![]() | ![]() kristinc0916 - 2009-10-30 2:42 PM Wait a minute here...I remember you posting something on FB about having the Sing, sing a song make it happy.....song stuck in your head! I sang that darn song for weeks!!!!! oh no!!! NOT THAT SONG AGAIN... haha singing that the whole 100 mile bike ride was enough... dont need to sing that the whole race! Really think that Sesame street song is a virus not a song! ![]() |

I'm assuming you aren't planning on peeing on your new bike so nature breaks will need to be able to do relatively quickly. Layers of of tight sweaty clothing pulling down and up is not a good formula. I'd go with two piece if you have done most of your rides in bike shorts wear them if something else wear that..you know nothing new on race day. Layering up can cause bad chaffing in places you don't want to experience it. I have scars from chaffing at IMLP and IMC in strange places. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am doing the full change. Bib shorts for biking and running tights for running. My race time will not be dteremined by the 2 minutes extra it will take to make the change. Always go for comfort. Unless maybe you are trying to qualfy. Hot again today and strong SE wind. Swells are 4ft. Hopefully will get in the open water swim tomorrow. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've had some really random songs pop through my head on long s/b/r. At IMKY, I had "Just keep swimming" from Finding Nemo in my head. Nothin' like having Ellen Degeneres on the brain. Ugh! For some reason I have had this recurring theme of Disney songs. Zip-a-dee-do-dah; A Pirate's Life for Me; Under the Sea. I'm much happier when I've got Nickelback, Jimmy Buffet, REM, U2, or Third Day, Switchfoot, or Jeremy Camp on the brain. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Although I may come to regret it once I'm finished I have a couple of reasons why I am wearing the tri-suit all the way through with some pull over bike shorts. Yes, I would like to go as I can but I am in no way qualifying. I actually find the 1-piece tri-suit comfortable and by not changing it gives me less to think about and fewer opportunities to forget something. In addition, I always find that when I change I end up feeling the chaffing and sores much more then I do if I wear the same clothes all the way through. |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() one thing to remember, when you put your bike shorts or bibs over your tri suit it will be come very wet, unless you have practice with two pairs of shorts both wet I would be careful trying it on race day. I think you would be better off wearing a swim suit and changing into bike shorts at T1. In 2007 I did use a tri suit and put a pair of bike shorts in my special needs bag and slip them on then after my pants were dry it worked great. This year my but must have got tougher because on my long rides the tri shorts were just fine, so I plan to wear them the whole way. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm waiting to see what the weather will be like prior to making a final decision the clothing plan. If it is cold I'll wear a swim suit under my wetsuit and change into a tri top and DeSoto shorts for the bike. If not then I'll wear my tri top and shorts under my wetsuit. I don't do well starting off cold. Taking the extra time to be warm is worth it to me. I also have Raynauds. Ill be the person wearing shorts, tri top and gloves if it is 60 or below! A friend of mine who is a Cat 1 racer taught me a great cold weather trick. I've been using it for years and it really helps. If the weather is cool but not cold enough for a jacket use a large ziplock bag. Place the bag under your tri top next to your skin. When you warm up take it out and throw it away or stuff it in a pocket. It works as a great wind barrier. Edited by Catwoman 2009-10-30 6:11 PM |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JPS0135 - 2009-10-30 9:51 AM I'm doing 2 full wardrobe changes. My plan is jammers under the wetsuit, then in T1 change into a bike kit (I prefer bib shorts) and then change into running shorts at T2. It adds time to my transitions, but I figure if I'm going to be spending close to 2/3rds of a day doing this thing, I should be as comfortable as I can get... Ditto here. I am doing 2 wardrobe changes. Bike shorts for the bike and running shorts for the run...I not trying to get to Kona so the time I spent is OK by me. Mr Steve |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What is your "theme" music? I don't train withmusic but the following are songs I listen to to get me pumped up for a workout, or, sometimes Ill sing them while I ride. Indestructible by Disturbed East Bound and Down--Jerry Reed "I've got a long way to go and a short time to get there" Reach for the sky by Social Distortion And yes......U can't touch this by hammer I don't know why, but that song gets stuck in head on long rides and I have blast rapping along! If you hear it on the bike course, its probably me! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, your posts have put enough doubt in me that I am going to put some complete changes of clothes in each of my bags. I am still hoping to do it all in the tri-suit but I guess being prepared isn't a bad thing. |
![]() ![]() |
Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() The most time you are going to lose on a full change is maybe 2-3 minutes. To me it is worth it just for the comfort factor. If i lose 5-6 minutes on T1 and T2 because of clothes changes I can live with that. |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jmeeks1977 - 2009-10-30 7:32 PM What is your "theme" music? I have trained with music for all of my swimming time...until recently. I have the Finis MP3 and it works great. I took Youtube videos of dance music (Freestyle) and ripped them into MP3. Nothing like having high energy, high bpm music pumping through your head while doing lap after lap after lap.. Watched Youtube music videos when I was riding the trainer. Otherwise, no music for any other training. I'll get some part of a song stuck in my head for hours. MC Hammer is one that I could do... Made it to Indiana. Parents are getting packed. Went for 50 minute run in the rain here. PLEASE, PLEASE do not have rain the day of the race. At least, not on the bike...I could handle the rain on the run... Leaving in the morning to begin the trip to FL. See everyone at the gatorade swim. Mr Steve |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() well i had put thought in this over the last couple of weeks... All along i was planning on wearing the same tri shorts through-out. Swim - Tri shorts - no shirt Bike - tri shorts - bike jersey and arm warmers. I decided not to wear tri top through out race as first planned due to the temps being a bit chilly on bike start and it will be nice to have a warm dry top. My experience in my training is that my shorts will be a bit chilly but will dry during bike rapidly. Run - changing top to my tri top and putting under armour in special needs bag. if cold by second loop i will put it on...if not i will put it around waist. When i did Louisville 2 years ago i wore same throughout and was fine...but temps here a different. |
![]() ![]() |
Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Personally with clothing I will keep it simple. tri shorts - sports bra - tri top all day. +/- various and sundry layers depending on temperature. TWO pieces....I DO NOT want to get completely naked (AKA take on and off a one piece) in a porta potty.....esp not in the dark no thanks no way. Will be loaded with arm warmers, gloves, throw away tech fiber shirt, throw away wind breaker, ($10 at walmart) throw away vest (sale rack at Marshalls...horribly ugly yet cheep).......Besides anything I wear no matter the temp will eventually get soaked in sweat. Struggling in a dark tent for 5 mintes of comfort isn't worth it. Besides the above plan worked for 2 previous IM and in 2006 it was 31 degrees at race start. Plus I dont own any bike shorts I always train in tri shorts. Edited by Socks 2009-10-30 10:06 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK newbie question.. I see they have athlete tracking but is it the kind where you can put in a cell phone # and text messages are sent to phones when you hit transition or can you only check by computer. Also, the posting of messages on the race course (I saw it on the Kona IM braodcast) do they do that for all IM's or just KONA? Oh and so as to not completly hijack the thread: Swim -sports bra, rash guard top, bike shorts, under wetsuit T1 -lose rash guard add bike jersey T2 -lose jersey and bike shorts -add tri top and running skort ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() According to accuweather it's going to rain. According to the weather channel there is zero percent chance of precipatation. Interesting! Both forecast keep edging the temp higher, currently forecasted at 77 degrees. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Aaack! I'm freaking out! I found out this week that 2 people I've talked to during the week now have the flu. One of the guys had given me a hug on Thursday, right before telling me he treated a patient with H1N1, unmasked! (I don't know why we fit test people if they're not going to wear their N-95s.) Now he's home with the flu and I know I've been exposed, and the race is only a week away! I made sure to stay a good 3-5 feet away when I was talking to him, though, so I really hope I avoided his germy respiratory droplets. I think if I can make it to Monday with no symptoms, I'm in the clear. Anybody have any tips for me on how to keep my immune system at peak performace until next Saturday? |
