This group is great!  I take a day off for my kids' school's field day (basically a day long recess) and you all pile one 5 pages.

John, when I saw "milking the DD thing" I thought we discussing sizes and I was nodding.  Driving never entered my mind.

Doug, welcome to the group.  What line of work takes you to Germany for a week at a time?  6' 200lbs - yea, that's little.  I was that size in 8th grade.

Linda, pregnant and nursing for 54 months!  Do you two not own a television or a deck of cards?  Is there nothing else to do around your house?!?!

Trevor, we ave the same situation.  Wife teaches and I write software.  And we don't discuss work - she teaches English (which I can barely speak Laughing) and she gets glassy eyed about software.  She is getting her principal license this year and will hopefully be a principal in the next couple years.
And I thought Canadians never worked on Monday?

Chris, hope the shoes are the key.  Sounds like your head is set straight so you'll make it.

Tracy, Happy Anniversary!!!

Chris - that is great news, hope the healing and training continue to be positive

Doug - Welcome to the group.  Feel free to pick on Tracy at will, she loves the attention

Tracy - Happy Anniversary!! Love seeing those double digits when so many people don't put in the effort to make it last that long.  Congratulations

I got in my swim for the challenge this morning.  I typically swim in regular trunks, mostly because I've never bothered to pick up a pair of jammers and don't want to ruin my tri shorts in the chlorine.  Anyway, given that today was "Race Day" - I went with the tri shorts.  Last week I swam a hard 400 in 7:07 only to get to login later and find out the competition didn't start until the 18th.  Well today I swam that same 400 in 6:38 - the only difference being the swim wear.  Off to pick up some jammers after work.

Have a fun, safe weekend everyone.

dalessit - 2009-05-22 7:40 AM Happy Friday everyone.

Heading up to Deep Creek MD, this weekend for a company weekend, supposed to be some very nice riding up there, just trying to figure out which camps to get the kids in so we can get some time on the road.

Anyone doing anything for the long holiday (for most of us) weekend?

DEEP CREEK?!?!?!!  That is where the SavageMan race is.  Look up the SavageMan website (you can get the link off my race list) and do either the International or Half bike course depending on whether you want hard or crazy hard. You can try to conquer the Westernport Wall!!!!  Total bragging rights.  I DARE YOU!!!!!     And swim in the lake for me.  It is the cleanest lake I've ever been it.  Jealous much.   I would love to be there now, instead of when it is 45 degrees when stupid me does the race!

The Savageman route was in my plans, if I have time I do want tocheck out the WW.

Not sure you can swim in the lake normally. I looked and it didn't list swimming as an activity.

Reb: I am a patent attorney with a semiconductor company. Our world headquarters is in Munich. After swimming this AM, I played hooky for awhile so I could try to get my 12 mile bike in before leaving. I am still trying to get familiar with my new ride (pics to come within the hour), but I put up a 33:18 on the bike course for my first try in 15 days. I could have done better, but I sucked today. My lower right back is throbing for some reason.

Thanks for the welcome! This is the kind of support I was looking for. Maybe the NC members can get together for a ride some time.

Jeepguy2358 - 2009-05-22 6:53 AM Hey everyone~

It has certainly been a long time.  I won't have the time to read the 20+ pages I have missed until Monday, but I hope everyone is doing well.  I have been dealing with some Achilles Tendinitis issues since March and have not put in much run time.  It has been really frustrating.  There have been times recently when I thought about packing in the whole HIM idea and calling it quits only because I kept reading about the recovery time for AT issues.  My thinking has been:  I can easily do the swim and I can work up to the bike, but I will really need to work on the run and without being able to train for that... Well, what's the point?  After about eight sessions with my therapist, gaining better ankle mobility, she decided to let me do a 1 min run, 3 min walk plan.  It went great.  So we bumped it up to 2 min run / 1 min walk.  1st time went great.  Second was a disaster!  I could not even finish the first 2 min.   I could not figure it out.  After a quick shoes analysis, we decided that I might need to try my old shoes a few times to see how I respond to those.  I tried them last night... BINGO!!  An easy 2 mile run without any pain!!!!  In February I bought some Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8 (stability shoes) and she things there is too much support.  I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am!!  I am ready to get back at it.  Unfortunately this will be an 80+ hour work week.  At the end of this week, I will be about two weeks behind my training plan, but I will get there.  It's good to be back both physically and mentally.

Chris--welcome back.  I am glad you are making progress with the AT.  As someone who was injured for months, I know how frustrating stepping back can be.  I am running a whole lot less than I was before, but my body is actually starting to feel healed.  Youl will come back from it!

Matt-can you give me the brand name of your new tri swimwear?  I will do anything to improve my swimming!

Tracy--Happy 11th!  Paul and I are nearing our 20th in September.

Oh yeah one more thing..... heads up  to Team #4!  I did my 12m bike today and gave it all that I had--22.8mph/31:34 and not on sissy Watts either!  Hopefully, that will make up for my lack of Phelpsness on the swim front!

This is the view from our deck this morning.  Haven't dipped my toes in yet, but plan to this weekend.

Two questions:

1. Are we supposed to swim 375 or 400 yds.? I swam 400 this AM.

2. How do you post pics! I have tried resizing them. My computer says they are less than 100kB, but when I try to upload to my album it says they're too big. You all seem to be able to do it effortlessly. What is the deal?Frown

400 yds. I noted mine in Meters as "I AM CANADIAN!!"

I hvae problems with uploading any pics as well. My issue is that the pics are too big and I can't downsize them enough to fit without actually losing most of the pic.

Rob: I think I got it! Check the box marked "attach a file after posting." Then select the file from your computer. As long as it is under 100kB it should post.

here is my road bike. It was made for me in the early 90's by Peter Mooney out of Belmont, Mass. I designed the paint job which was done by Cyclart out of California.

John:

I read about your mishap. I feel your pain! In 1989 (wow has it been that long!) I was riding on Storrow Drive in Cambridge, Mass. when a girl in a Hundai t-bone me. I was riding my first and favorite bike. It was made for me by Francesco Cuevas. I was lying in the road and all these people were saying "don't move!"

I did feel any great pain and kept asking "How's my bike?" They thought I was nuts and kept saying it was fine. I went to the hospital and the Police took my bike away. I was lying in an emergency room bed and decided to take out my wallet to get my medical card. The wallet fell to the floor and I decided to go get it. That it when I knew I was not hurt bad. I could walk. They bring in a guy whos dog bit him in the face. He says to me "Ooh you look bad!" The guy whos dog bit him thinks I look bad? I had to go to a mirror. Had a large hematoma on the side of my head at the temple, and a small one on my ankle.

The bike...was not fine! I still have the frame. I dry my hockey equipment on it. In the era befor Carbon bikes that tbike was 16-17 lbs. fully loaded. She was so responsive and a beautiful fade from metllic silver to all silver.

BTW: I made my hockey game the next night. My teammates were real sympathetic. "don't put your helmet on till we're on the ice." They wanted me to scare the other team I guess. My normal ugliness must not have been enough. I was glad your bike company is helping you out. That is how you keep a customer!

Doug

Tracy:

I have a brand new, still in the wrapper set of Bontrager Race XXX Lite Carbon Aerobars I'm willing to sell. I had them on the classifieds, but only got one nibble. I'll reduce the price for someone in this group and nearby. Let me know by PM if you are interested. Otherwise I think it will be ebay in June.

Here's a lesson i just learned....MY PB  for a 5k is 27:00 flat( I'm slow and fat remember). I really wanted to beat it today. So I have been playing with the garmin lately and learning some features. So i set it to run the 5km in 26:30. It calcs the pace and you are good to go.
Not good to go for me. I think what i should have done was set it to run at slightly over my PB pace, so that I could maintain that, and then kick it up for the last KM.  This pace was too quick for me, and I couldnt maintain it, so it didnt really motivate me, it frustrated me that I couldnt keep it up. in the words of Tony "BLAH"

Did my 400 today check my math, I did it in 6:39 but that was in a Meter pool, if I convert it to yards that is 5:57 Right?  I found some online swim calculator and that is what it came up with.

I was actually more happy with the fact that I did that 400, took a breather for a minute then swam an 1100 straight in 21:21

If you say so, I found about 3-4 swim calculators that I think also might have been doing some other conversion along with the meters to yards.  I was kind of suspect of the calculator that is why I asked.

Also, I got the trisports.com catalog in the mail today.  Is it bad that I think I am more excited about that than if a playboy got accidentally delivered to my house?

I have been walking around for the last hour doing stuff around the house while holding the catalog and reading word for word everything in the book.
