Kate - The fiberone bars don't give any G.I. distress? I can usually eat one of those w/o much issue (2 starts causing problems) but not sure I'd want to chance it before a HIM. I'll have to try them out in training because we usually keep a box of them around. You sound really busy! Make sure you take a few seconds to stop and breathe and relax.

Leah - I think you can figure out how to infuse fun into the training. For example why exactly was your trail run NOT training? Can't you do your easy runs out on the trail and not worry about time? I think a few days a week we just need to get out there for being out there sake and not worry about time/drills/intervals/splits whatever.

J - I think I would have ditched the coach also. I think at some point some of these "helps" are just a drain of financial resources that can be better spent elsewhere be it swim books/videos whatever.

Kir - Glad you enjoyed the icecream! I think we have a scoop shop here in Chicago but I purposely didn't look it up since I'm pretty sure they are downtown. Spending 2.50 on the El just to get down there for a "free" cone I shouldn't have. I did have the free pastry at Starbucks though the other morning though. hehe.

Kiwi - "Michael Phelp's Swim School" oh that sounds cool... let us know if you end up doing the masters there.

Scott - What is the "CLE"?

As for me... I'm taking another rest day today. My shoulder/back doesn't hurt as bad today it feels more like a burning feeling, but we are doing videos of our stroke tomorrow and I don't want to miss that so I figure it's better to take another rest day so I don't make it worse. I think I just strained my trap... or maybe a tendon. If it's not feeling better by next week I'll make an appointment with my doctor (and maybe look into sports massage) Luckily this is a rest week and I was allowed to take extra rest days so hopefully this won't throw me off track too much.

I'll be thinking about you Kate and Leah this weekend and be watching for your updates as they happen! So excited for you both. First ones out of the Nutso Nest!

Hey all,

Had a serious bout of lethargica yesterday, so took that as a sign from the tri-gods that I needed a day off, did a short grocery-getting commute to keep it peach. I feel MUCH better today. Up for a swim and run today and hopefully will be picking up my freshly tuned bike.

Oh speaking of bikes, when I was in the tri shop I was drooling over one of these
The one in the shop had matching green tires too, it was SOOOO pretty I just wanted to lick it. But as it is like a billion dollars out of my price range I will continue to drool.

L&K thanks for sharing your strategies and plans. I think y'all are going to do just fine - as they say just keep moving forward!

Have fun out there...

Kir - Could always sell that Kidney. How pretty that bike would look on a Kurt Kinetic!

I'm beginning to think about talking to the husband about a tri-bike. I don't know the few times I've ever mentioned a new bike he just sorta Hm'ed at me. It would have to be probably an alum/carb mix though because my of my budget.

I don't know if I'd be able to work up my core enough though by fall to ride it. So not sure it makes sense or not.

Self coached my swim set and ran.....

I wasn't paying for the coach, he's employed by the gym.  It's ascheduled class....I'm just not taking his class anymore.

CLE- Continuing legal education.

Funny - I don't even look at tri bikes.. I had a GURU and got rid of it because I never wanted to ride it. Part of the reason is all of the hills by me..ok mountains.  Can't wait to get on the road bike..it is going to feel very fast considering I have been doing all my riding on my mountain bike.

Scott - I think it's sad that in Maryland all I had to do was sign the big ol' book at the Court of Special Appeals and BAM I'm an attorney...no CLE involved, I've got no handy dandy license to flash at people like my pharmacist's license...I hate it..then again, I'm probably glad I don't need to keep track of CE AND CLE for 2 different licenses...yikes!

Kir - OOhhhhhh..that bike is sweet..I like the green!! That would go great with the red hair!! Ok, yes, I need to post a pic..I still haven't figured out how to re-size my pics to get a profile pic up..I'm a tard, sorry...when I feel like sifting through the pages I'll take a look back and read the directions someone posted. I've got photos up in my profile..just not a profile pic.

I went for a run today and my legs felt like cement and I was exhausted..maybe it's going around? LOL and my lower back is twitching again. I have an appointment with the chiropractor next week for my orthotics so I think I'll call back and see if he can do a treatment too!

Saturday is the Multisport Expo so I've got a swim clinic and I'm hoping to find a few things while I'm there!

I'm hoping I can keep track of Kate & Leah too this weekend!!! Good luck!!!

Keely - it really sounds like your training is really coming together.  Just get in a little more swim time and you'll be set for June.  It sounds like you have had a breakthrough on the run and your hard work on the bike is paying off.

And are you saying that you didn't have to go to law school, didn't have to take a bar exam, just sign your name in some book and you can practice law in the State of Maryland???

Kiri - that was a sweet-lookin' bike.  I probably would have to sell both kidneys.

Scott - thanks for the reminder about hydrating.  After I read your message, I went and had a glass of water.  So, what was the answer about employers and Facebook and all?

Debb - the trail running IS going to be part of my training.  I usually go after up work and it is too dark until daylight shifting time so I haven't been able to get up there until now.  But I think for at least April and May I am going to go up as often as I can and call it hill repeats or speed work or whatever I feel like.  After that I will see how I can fit it into the training plan, but I will be fitting it into the training plan.

And speaking of fun and not fun, it sounds funny, but having a coach contributed to the not fun.  It made it seem like it was so serious, that I couldn't figure things out on my own.  I didn't get a coach so that I could have someone figure out workouts for me, I got him because I thought I would be able to ride with him and he could point out things I was doing wrong and I would thereby become a better cyclist.  Once I decided to not continue with him and not have any coach, it was like a great weight fell off my shoulders.

Judi - your initial foray into self-coached swimming seems to have been a success.  I go to the Rose Bowl Masters because I like swimming in the 50 meter pool, not necessarily because I like their workouts, which I can't do/keep up anyway.  I do like their system of a different "theme" every day.

Lisa - I hope your ankle is still mending.  You were still able to get in your workouts, even with a bum ankle.

Miscellaneous - I picked up my bike this afternoon and Steve, the Bike Guy, said he put an extra cog or gear or something on.  He said that after the race he would change the crank-something or other and that would help with climbing too.  I asked why we were doing that AFTER the hilly race and he said that I didn't want to do something drastically different right before the race.  I don't know - I MIGHT have wanted to do something drastically different right before the race, if it helped with climbing.

I am not stressed about the race.  I think my epiphany about this being fun really helped.  If I don't do well (and by what measure will we evaluate that), so what?  I am a success in most of the things I do and I have lost a bunch of weight and gotten fitter in the journey.

That's exactly my reasoning I had when finally signing up for IMOO. I think it's important to keep these kind of things in mind when doubt comes-a-callin' (Just remember to remind me of it when I'm freaking before MY race haha) I think you both have great attitudes going into this.... Keeping in mind to enjoy yourself. You're out there doing what so many people can not... or just won't do. Go kick some butt and do us proud.

Hey gang!  I just finished my LONG day!!  I'm spent!  I'm packing up my stuff and goofing off a little bit now.  When packing I decided to go with a turquois shirt instead of my sunshine yellow shirt.  I feel like I'll get better mojo that way!  I won't match my bike but I think it is ok.

I am feeling pretty good today.  I think I'm at the place Leah is.  I'm just going to do what I can do and see what happens.  So many people are so excited that I am even trying to do this race that I'm getting pumped up.   I'm about to do what most people won't even attempt to do.  People may be in better shape, thinner, better swimmers BUT I'm going to be out there trying my best.

I don't know if I'll be able to check in before I leave for the race.  If you don't hear from me, send me good vibes at 7:17 a.m. Saturday morning.

Leah - No!! Still have to go to law school and pass the bar exam...but once we were sworn in before the Court all we did was sign a book and that was it! I didn't like that! I want to have something that I can flash at people (in terms of license, card, etc..not body parts) to tell them I'm an attorney. I wish there was something uber-cool that flashed "Pharmacist Attorney"..but that's just for my own ego..LOL I just find it weird that I have to get 30 CE credits every 2 years for my pharmacy license and nothing for my law license.

Good luck this weekend ladies!!! WHOO HOO!!! Hopefully I can log in tomorrow at some point to check progress or your final times!! I'm so excited!! 79 days until my HIM!!!

I went to Crossfit this morning and did a very easy short workout with a lot of stretching and rolling.  My triathlon bag is packed and I just need to take a shower and pack my overnight bag and then I am ready to go.  I am going to get my nails done on the way out of town and should be to Oceanside between noon at 1pm.  I plan to meet up with Jessica (Jezzieswims) at the Expo and with Kate once she gets into town.  We haven't made any definite plans, but have exchanged cell phone numbers.  I still need to get my sliced turkey, but have the rest of my race food.

So, I am pretty close to ready.  Signing off now to take a shower and hit the road.   Thank you to everyone for the words of encouragement.  They have meant a lot.  This a great group and I appreciate each one of you.

Good Luck!!  Have fun and don't be too concerned that you don't match your bike (Not that I would ever allow that to happen) I don't think there are any time penalties for not matching.  I will think about you and Leah while I watch the snow fall here tomorrow morning.

Scott - I think we'd really like to know when you schedule your bikini waxing...I think we need to tip your waxer and probably send them flowers as a "Thank You!". I don't let people know I'm an attorney most of the time but I think it's just bragging right among friends and family...LOL. Other than that I'd prefer not to because then you get all sorts of weird criminal, tax and property law questions which I am not versed in at all. I'm a healthcare policy analyst, not a practicing attorney but I find it hysterical how many people will ask me about their traffic tickets or their cousin "Mookie" down in central lock up..I mean, seriously??

Kate, Leah - GOOD LUCK!!! I am so excited for you two to hear how you did and what your experience was like! Take deep breaths, stay relaxed and focused but above all else, HAVE FUN!!!

They're saying possible light snow showers tonight?? ARGH...not sure I'll be biking tomorrow!!!!

They are both through the swim and T1 yah! GO NUTSOS!

I am locking myself in the house today - except for a long run - to do the dreaded taxes. Yuck. Thankfully I bought a pound of coffee and some pina colada fixins for later to see me through. Have a great one all, and i'm keeping an eye on the tracker!
