Master 1209![]() ![]() ![]() New York, NY | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Eeeeek!! Glad you're still in one piece, and hopefully feeling better now. Nicole83 - 2010-02-02 8:04 AM Good Morning all. So, for the time being, I think we can just call me Murphy. As in, Murphys law. It's been one heck of a week. So now that I'm over the embarassment of it all... on Saturday morning I got up, got dressed for a run, and went into the kitchen to cut up an apple to eat on my way out to the trail. We just got a new knife set, so the knives are super sharp. You guessed it, I sliced the hell out of my finger. But that's not even the worst of it. I do'nt have a touchy stomach at all, but for some reason, it hurt so bad and there was enough blood (I wo'nt be graphic) that everything went black and I, evidently, passed out cold. I came to a few minutes later but I caught the corner of my kitchen counter on the left side of my head right behind my ear as I was going down. So I spent most of the day Saturday in the hospital. By myself. Lovely. Feeling better by Monday, but talk about embarassing. I've never fainted in my entire life. |

It felt absolutely amazing and left me in a great mood! I never thought I would get to the point where I enjoy running but today has changed my mind. Question for the group: Anyone know any good hip flexor stretches? I always feel some soreness in my hip flexors after running... thought it would be good to stretch them really well after running. |

Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Question for the group: I am certain (although not officially diagnosed) I have an injured IT Band on my right knee. The symptoms are exactly the same as what I have researched & discussed with an elite runner friend who suffered the same injury. He recommended 6-8 weeks off from running altogether... not feasbale ~ just gonna be straight up with that! My leg would have to be broken for me to do that! However, I ran Monday morning and no pain on the treadmill at a very easy pace only up to 5 miles. My knee usually starts to bother me between the 5 - 6 mile marks when I run outside. So, I am thinking that I take the entire month of February off from running (4 weeks) and then start building back March 1st... in time for the two races Oly & HIM at the end of April. Or continue with 2-3 easy 5 milers a week and see how the knee feels. If no pain, then continue with that regimine until March. Most of the runs may be on a treadmill for added easy on the joints. If it were you... what would you do? Cycling does not seem to bother it, so I will continue and look to really build on that this month. The stairmaster doesn't seem to bother it either...but that may simply be, that I don't go far enough to push that threshold. Thanks in advance for your opinions and/or advice. |

Master 1318![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Mentor group challenge?!?!Thanks to smilford for the idea of the 'beer mile', was wondering if our group would be interested in challenging some of the other MGs in a beer mile. What is the format of a beer mile you might ask... Drink a beer / run 0.25mi Drink a beer / run 0.25mi Drink a beer / run 0.25mi Drink a beer / run 0.25mi If at any point you throw up during the beer mile you do one extra penalty lap. Now I know some people aren't keen on beer, I suggest those people are allowed to take a shot + 12oz carbonated beverage. How do we win? Scores are normalized off your 5K PR, if you don't have one we'll accept your best guess and trust your honesty unless of course you win! So for example sake lets say my 5K PR is 8:00/mi pace. I complete my beer mile in 8:30 my score is +30, if I complete my mile in 7:45 my score is -15. This way it doesn't matter if you're a 5:00/mi runner or 15:00/mi. We'll average everyone's score in the MG and the lowest scoring MG wins! This event is best done with some friends in a place where you won't get in trouble and you have until the end of Feb to get your beer mile in. I of course take no responsibility for anything that may happen to you or anyone joining this adventure, this is at your own risk! There are all sorts of nit picky rules that if we have enough interest I'll send out like no shot gunning, no pre-opened cans, etc... Who's in? Edited by evondo 2010-02-02 9:33 AM |

I think your friend is right but that doesn't work for me either. Not to mention I took off almost 4 weeks and it didn't get better at all. A note of warning - my IT band pain used to kick in around 4 miles then 2 now 1.5 or less. My worry is that I could take another 4-6 weeks off and it wouldn't help at all and then where would I be? I am considering some ART therapy http://www.activerelease.com/ There are a few providers in our area that specialize with athletes. It isn't going to be cheap but the good news is most folks say you only need 1-3 visits. How much is pain free running worth? |
