suzimmer - 2011-03-03 9:26 PM Thanks for the words of commiseration.  I did end up going to the ortho doc and he wants me to have an MRI.  ARRRG!   Now I'm wishing I hadn't gone.  He's checking for a hip stress fracture.  But it's my quad that hurts..I'm so confused...angry...depressed. I guess I'm going but it sure is a lot of $$$ to confirm a strain. Thank goodness for insurance.   Already made the deductible. Looks like I'll make my out of pocket maximum this year.

Better to know than not to know and waste time wondering.  I had an MRI in fall after my IT band didn't heal according to my time frame.  Wanted to know if it was a stress fracture.  Nope.  It.  Good luck on the results.  I would up doing yoga every day, and rollers every day.

My only point is that how do you know what you need to do unless you have the tests to find out?   I had cancer and I was telling the doctors that I thought certain tests and procedures were unnecessary.  I did it again when I was in the hospital last year for cellulitis.   But unless someone has xray eyes, a MRI is the only way to know whether something is muscular or structural.  If sturtural, you wait and rest.  If muscular, you can do active recovery in many instances.  Why lose time?

stephsprint - 2011-03-03 6:34 AM Well I fell off my bike this morning. Fortunately we were stopped and I don't embarrass easily. Gotta work on that left clip-out sitch. Hee hee hee.

Been there, done that (more than once).  Happens to everyone.  Now you can check that off your list.  First time it happened to me I was more concerned about the scratches to my brand new bike than the scratches on me.
Right, "Who cares about YOU, how's the bike?" Ha ha ha. I have been a road biker and a mt biker...not for about 10 years, but seriously...I have never fallen. I know how to fall though...having XC ski background etc. You just have to relax and let it happen. I must say, I think I looked rather graceful. I have VERY thick pads on my glove and I twisted a little to let my arse take most of the fall. No soreness, no scrapes, nada. I did quickly run through ALL the gears though...geesh. Bike is fine! AND my cadence monitor works now!!! WOO HOO!

Hmmm .. don't think falling off the bike is going to catch on as an acceptable fix for broken cadence sensor ... but hey at least a silver lining.

Hey McFuzzies...not tri related at all & I hope it's OK to post this request.  One of our high school students went missing yesterday after track practice.  She has not been seen or heard from since 5:15pm last night.  Ours is a very small, tight knit community and this is rocking our world today.  If you're the praying kind...please send one up that Macaela comes home safe and sound.  It's a complete mystery at this point.

After 3 months, I fixed mine today, but used a more "traditional" method. Tongue out

Concerning the MRI discussion...I have gone over this and over and over and over...in my head last night when I couldn't sleep.  Part of me says if the treatment will be the same...why bother, why spend the money.  Then I think, but I really want to know.  If I have a definitive answer rather than a "I think its" answer, I am more likely to follow directions.  (I'm admittedly a terrible patient, in that I'm not patient-ha ha, and tend to make up my own rules if I don't like what I'm told, unless it's backed up with hard evidence).  Then I think, but I haven't given this enough time to heal.  Then I think, but HIM training is supposed to begin next week. Best to know what I'm dealing with now instead of wasting time waiting.

So, I'm scheduled for an MRI next Tuesday afternoon and my follow-up appt with the ortho Friday morning.  I will have an answer in a week.

Until then the training will be Sat, Tues, Thurs: strength and core.   Mon, Wed, Fri:  Swim (using pull bouy, no kicking)

You'll like this:  when I asked the doc what I could and couldn't do for the time being.  He said I could swim, but no kicking because "I know you people...you need your endorphins" HA! (how right he is)

It's now been 30 hours that Micaela's been missing. We had a search party out tonight doing a grid search in the desert behind the school. My first workout tomorrow will be to join the 7am search through the desert mountains. This is so surreal. You see this on the news, not in your safe little town.

will leave a race report for tomorrow, I'm very tired but happy that I finished.

second to last, had a flat rear tire 1.5 mile to the finish of bike leg, at least 6 passed me and I lost the group I was with, overall good for a first time.

should take the training more serious

one question, what constitute draft? I know it is illegal, and not even sure I will be penalized for it (a flat tire is penalty enough) but at one point, when I was approaching a turn, the person directing traffic said my number and draft, I don't know if he was warning me that I was doing it or reporting to the race official, I was at least one bike length from the bike in front of me.

good experience, nice race, beat my personal goal of 2h20m even with the flat (2h13m)

Great job on your duathlon!!!!If you hadn't had a flat (sorry, that sucks!) you would have beat your goal by even more! As for the drafting use it as a learning experience, sometimes it can be hard to get around people especially when they speed up!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  After an exhausting day of searching, a shallow grave has been found.  The investigation is on hold until tomorrow morning.  The whole story is here:  http://www.ksl.com/    Our community is in shock and disbelief.  Prayers are now needed for Micaela's family and our community.

ETA:  the news story states that there are no suspects but I can tell you from an insider's point of view that the evidence is stacking up against a fellow male student.  It's all so much to take in right now.
