Spoke too soon about being a little achie. By last night i was in serious trouble with lots of aches, pain in my knees, man flu (and we all know how serious that is), shivers and then sweats. I think i got a touch of sunstroke!! whilst running as it was a glorious day here in England and i also now have to add a hat to my running apparel or re-grow my hair. Fortunately things felt better this morning but i need to shake the cold that i have picked up because i am struggling to breathe properly and want to get out and build up my training.

Nice to see so many manatees posting. Who's racing next?

"man flu". That's funny.I am doing a classic distance ( .5 , 19 , 4) tri this weekend. It's on south beach in Miami, so there is no chance of hypothermia for me I have a badly pulled hamstring, so the run will be more painful than usual!

Can't believe you guys haven't heard of man flu before. Over here it's a famous condition that is defined as 'any sniffle or bit of a temperature a man gets that renders him useless and in need of lots of attention' (thats my definition, not that of the British Medical Association). Widely used, it has become synonymous with mans natural predisposition to need sympathy and inability to do even the simplest of tasks.  If this is new to you lot on that side of the pond, do you think i can patent it in the US before it gets popular??

On a lighter note, for there is nothing more serious than man-flu, take it steady on your run Ann-Marie cos you don't want to crock yourself and ruin future training. Will be thinking of you slogging through the pain this weekend. Which day are you doing it?

Finally, if my patent on man flu is not accepted, i think i could start a new market in knitted tri-tops. My wife has just bought some more wool and i was wondering if anyone knows what size Yanti is cos i don't want her getting cold again.Wink

I certainly recognize the signs and symptoms of man flu, it is rampant over here too; just never heard a name for it.  Normally, it just gets referred to as being a "man" , for example a conversation might go like this:  "what's wrong with him?"  "You know, he's a man."  "Ah, right, of course."

I am "racing" on Sunday, April Fools.  I think that might be telling.

An enormous THANK YOU to the amazing Manatees, who kept my spirits up before, during, and after this crazy race of mine. I've been doing some drive-by postings here and there, but wow ... thank you all so much.

The whole saga is finally up ... just skim the pics and skip to the end part where Rinny is touching my boob.

I've been sloooooowwwwly getting back on the bike on the trainer in anticipation for the nicer weather (ie Bicycle commuting) I, like an idiot, broke off my valve stem when doing a routine inflation. Again, like an idiot, I decided, "Hey, you don't need an inflated front tire to do a trainer ride." For the most part, yeah, that is true BUT what I was forgetting is that a deflated front tire means a forward/downward lean to the bike.

Long story short, my crotch hurts and now there is a pillow under my tire until I get a new tube.

Surely the pillow is supporting the wrong thing here.

Yanti, I just read the epic race report.  You are amazing.  I love the picture in your volunteer shirt.  Despite all that  you went through, you managed an amazing smile.  Heh, I also loved the picture of Rinny signing  your melon.  The guy in the background with his hand on his chin is clearly looking at your melons, LOL.

I'm sorry that they had to pull you from the bike, but it sounded like you were in dire need of medical attention.  Glad there was a piglet to aid you.  Can't imagine having to ride 112 miles in those chilly conditions.  I hate to be cold.

Your attitude is inspiring!

Damn A-fib.  Anyone else out there with this nuisance?  I know others in the BT community have this as well.  Doesn't happen too often, last known bout was 6 months ago.  I have been seen by a Cardiac Electrophysiologist who wants to perform an ablation, but the success rate isn't as high as I had hoped.  I usually take a few pills (flecainaide and atenolol) and it goes away.  Makes sense why my swim this morning was not a very good one.  I've had to withdraw from a race once (IM MOO 2004) because of this condition.  I've completed multiple races since including 7 IM's and no problem at all.  It's frustrating but I will live.  Thanks for reading.  OK I'm done complaining.

Damn indeed. Not me, but several close friends (also endurance/tri and iron people). So you've been having more runs (of A-fib, not jogging kind, heh) lately?

Ack!  This does sound very frustrating.

Hopefully this is an isolated thing and doesn't rear it's ugly head again for a good long while -- like after IMAZ 2012!

I was grateful to BE able to help. A lot of weird crap can happen during races which puts you in a bad way afterward whether you finish or not, and all things considered I made out like a champ.

Hope you're able to ward it off, Jimmy. How long does it last? Hereditary? I hope you get it under control and can be back to training the way you'd like soon.

Thanks for all the well wishes.  I woke up out of A Fib and was able to do my long run today.  Seems I go into this rhythm about 2 times a year (at least that's when I'm aware of it).  I'm still able to run and bike but swimming is definitely out when the rhythm rears its ugly head.

Wow! Yanti! Great race report! It was actually very inspiring to read given all the hurdles you had to endure.  I'm still working up my endurance before I even think about attempting an IM.  So for me it was a great and inspirational read simply for the fact that you went and fearlessly just did it.  I'll get there one day.

Also, I guess I'm back, in a way.  March is pretty much a wasted month training wise for me.  Thanks to Lynn, Yanti and everyone else that dropped in notes to check on me.  I was, unfortunately on travel quite a bit so it really disrupted my training routine.  Getting back on track has also been harder than I thought as the motivation seems to be lacking.  Good news is that I just registered for my first couple of races this season so I've got more incentive to HTFU and get out there and train.

Hoping to catch up with everyone here soon.  Oh... and a neat thing.  We've been having Manatee sightings around some of the harbors here. Maybe I'll spot one at my next OWS!

Good to see ya back Keye!

My Trainer ride was shorter than expected as I blew out my old tire and tube less than 8 minutes in...  but I did manage a great swim this morning, was actually to get a 100 m time down to 1:37, impressed me I guess it does make sense to actually follow a plans workouts :-)

Have a good weekend y'all
