Asalzwed - 2013-03-29 1:28 PM So, when does the spring mentor program actually start?

You aren't going to get rid of us that easily...

Heh. Nice try, though

Smile ALWAYS A MANATEE, RIGHT?

Besides, you already have one other BT big hitter and mentor in line to be your disciple.

Now, now, I was just asking out of curiosity. No intention of breaking up. Are we feeling insecure in our relationship standing? Wink

YES! I NEED REASSURANCE!

Either Pop Tarts or sexting should be enough to reassure me, though.

HA, funny, my coach just sent me a really long e-mail about tapering. He even referenced Jekyll and Hyde.

He also gave me a few workouts ahead of time. 8 x 800 next Wednesday. I can feel that one already!

So this makes taper different from usual how?

I lied. Clearly. Well, I can't sleep.

In less fun news, my toddler has pink eye.  Frown

But, my mom will be here tomorrow and E loves her.  So, I can get some extra sleep and catch up on house stuff while E plays with my mom.

Poor thing!  Undecided

Is that your way of saying no to my Easter pictures comment?

No! I'll post some.  She had an Easter egg hunt at daycare yesterday.  It was pretty cute.  Just busy at work today.

Yup. Still can't sleep.

GEE not that I have the world's most regular sleep schedule anyway, but I think it's part of the process--my sis and I are usually great sleepers and both of us have gone to bed exhausted most nights but then been wide awake. Zombie-like. Rar. coming to get you.

Technically 2 days ago since it's past midnight here. WAY past midnight. Rar.

Alright Manatees, down to almost 1 week away from my first half iron and A race of the season. I'm trying to go over everything in my head but since I've never attempted this distance before I welcome all and any suggestions/comments.

Some say don't take bike pump because there are plenty some say do

How long are the aid stations? I have a speed fill 40 ounce so If I slow down to 10 mph will I have enough time to grab a bottle, fill, then throw the bottle in the designated area?

Should I use gel packets and throw empties at aid stations or use a gel flask?

Apply sunscreen before I put wetsuit on or spray during T1?

I have Tri shoes, go sockless for the bike? Never ridden that far sockless.

I'm sure I have a bizillion other question but that's all I can think about right now.

With my extensive experience (one HIM) beind me:

I took my pump.  I heard that there were would be lots around too, but I was nervous enough that I didn't need to be looking around for a pump.  Got there early, pumped up, lots of time to put pump back in my car.

As you come into the aid station, make eye contact with the volunteer so they know you are grabbing from them.

I used a flask cause I didn't want to have to try ripping open packages.

Sunscreen every chance you get.  I still have lines from the burn I got at Calgary last year.

Nothing new on Race Day.  Wear socks.

Two other pointers:

1. Thank every volunteer you go by.  They are out there all day in the heat/rain/wind to help you on your race.  It's just the right thing to do AND the gratitude helps you get through the day.

2. Have fun and smile!  Remember this is supposed to be fun.  Smiling will help your body relax, tension will slow you down and make you sore.  This is your first race at this distance so ANY time is a PR Wink

These made me smile! Your first will always have a special place in your heart, so do your darndest to make good memories Laughing

Alright, for a "tune-up" triathlon in June (so about a month and a half prior) should I do an OLY or a Sprint?

Or should I skip a tune-up and just train through?

A sprint will be easier to recover from and still let you practice transitions. The Oly could stress your body more, but you could practice nutrition.
