I was shopping for head lamps today and had a very strange mental picture pop into my head.  Me wearing a head lamp strap, my head and ear warming band, a heart rate monitor strap, my IPod strapped to my arm, and my road ID strap on my ankle.  I will look like a running mummy!!!   BONDAGE ANYONE?!?!?!

ooh ooh, another thought just popped into my head, lets switch the head lamp to the strobe effect and we can do DISCO BONDAGE!!!

And thanks to all of you who popped in on my log to keep me honest about my workout this morning.  I have to admit, I felt really good leaving the house this morning   Thanks guys.

So I found out today that I'm going to DC in December.  I've never been and hope I'll be able to find some time to see some sites.  There's also a good chance my wife is going to go with me - we'd been talking about it for awhile as if I were going.  It would be our first trip without Lily

Also some other shocking news yesterday - my boss is moving on to other endeavors.  Not sure what that means for me in the long term (new boss, promotion, etc.), but in the near term it means a lot more work.

Weekend looks like a 90 minute trail run tomorrow morning and then not much else on the calendar.  Have a safe one!

I have talked with some other folks I work with about my boss. Yes he is retiring in 1-2 years, but until then yikes. It turns out he drove that training with someone and left his car at one of the job locations until he got back. They were freeking out waiting for him to come in and yell at him about who knows what. At least he is yelling at everyone, kind of normalizes it. But I have been there done that, don't like it.

When all employees morning routine includes looking around the parkinglot to see if your boss's car is there and then planning your day accordingly (work in your office or make every effort to be out in the field) it is time for that boss to retire or step down, no matter what his skills are.

Anyway, one week after my trail run race, time to stop slacking. Long bike ride today, even if/when it will rain on me. Lets get off the web and go workout !

Well I had a couple of terrible weeks there that I'm finally over.  Each day I felt like I had about 10 beers the night before and had no energy.  I only rode once over those weeks, and it took me a few days to recover from that.  Big mistake - I should have known better.

Finally on Friday I suddenly felt better.  It was funny, I left work early for Halloween.  Then on the way home I stopped at the pizza shop, and as I was walking from there to the wine shop, it felt like all the heaviness and soreness lifted just like that!  I felt great!

Maybe it had something to do with pizza and wine. Cool

So on Saturday I went out and rode my mountain bike around some trails for fun.  I was so happy to get out.  There's also some other motivation behind this ride -

I think I'm going to do a 24 hour mountain bike race next June in WV.  Has anyone done anything like this, or have some advice?  It's called Black Bear and is part of a 5 race series that includes a huge race in Moab, UT in October.

Hey Bob. ITs good to hear that you are feeling bettr now. It can be a b@#%$ when your feeling fdonw and don't really knw hwy. Never done a 24 hour race like the one you're talking about but I think it would be neat. They did have a good 2 day ride up here for cancer from Torotno to Niagara Falls. I missed out on that one as I procrastinated and never did sign up.
It should be a good incentive to keep your training going if you sign up for that. Whenever I find I am having a little difficulty getting out of the house I just think of the HIM I signed up for. That's about all the incentive I need to move my butt and train. That and wanting to be buff :-)

Good to hear you are feeling better, I seriously think I get the winter blues every year, and for a couple weeks I have no energy or motivation at all.  Never done any kind of of overnight race at all, sounds like alot of fun though.

Everyone have a good Halloween?  Took the kids out trick or treating and they had a good time.

Looking forward to our Miami trip, we get on the train on Thursday afternoon and arrive in Orlando Friday morning, get our car off the train and drive 4-5 hrs to get to Miami.  Wife and I are sooo looking forward to the silience of the train and the car ride, no kids yelling for milk, telling us they have poo in their diaper, etc...

Did a Swim/Bike/Run brick yesterday and felt pretty good.  Need to figure out what to do about the wetsuit, my full sleeve one makes my arms really sore about 500M in.  I think I might go rent a sleeveless tomorrow and see how that feels, not too bad for $35 bucks for a week.   I could go without one but would hate to give up that free speed and buoyancy.

From my limited experience with wetsuits...... but I found that if I didn't pull the suit WAY up from the back it pulled on my arms and I felt the same thing you are.  Make sure your suit is pulled all the way up your back and butt/crotch to ensure a full range of motion in your arms.  Enjoy Miami!!

Hey Bob, glad to hear you're doing better.  My doc recommended a Vitamin D supplement over the winter to help combat the lack of sun this time of year.

Are you doing the 24 solo or as part of a team?

Thanks everyone!  Right now I'm thinking of doing it solo mainly so that it will force me to keep up my winter and early season training.  Friends of mine who I grew up with own a bike shop and they did it as a team last year.  Each of the 5 of them did 3 laps (total of 3.5 hours or so for each of them).  Ideally I'd like to do around 10 laps for 15 hours of riding.   Last year's solo winner did 15 laps on his own, which was as many or more laps than all the teams except for two!

And it's called Big Bear, not Black Bear!

Are you doing the Shamrock 1/2 or full next year?  THey have some fun kids stuff there also.  They do a 26.2 yard race, kids get shirts and a finishers medal.

I think I'm going to do the B&A Trail 1/2 Marathon in Annapolis MD on March 1st.  http://annapolisstriders.org/races/bamarathonNew.html  Once again it is close to the in-laws and therefore built in babysitters.  It says trail run but most of it is on a Rails to Trails path and if they are anything like the paths down here then that is what I do a lot of my running on anyway.

I've done a few of the challenge groups and they really helped me focus on a discipline or stay on track w/ a training plan.  Have fun!

NO THANK YOU!!  I've seen from your pictures and Baowolf's race what a true trail run is. That is why I was double checking the race's description of the course when it described itself as a "trail run."  I'm in enough danger of tripping over my own feet - let alone putting tree branches in my way.

I am in the double your pleasure bike challenge (2500 miles biked for me is the goal this year), the workout 5 days a week challenge thingy for the month and the run challenge for 100 miles this month as well as the couch potato to full IM challenge. The only other goal I have is the 1000 miles ran for 2008 personal goal. Wish I knew how to link the profile from my trail run in here.

Rain rain in the forcast for the next 3 days.
