I did my first tri to prove to myself I had really changed my life about 1.5 years after I started to lose weight back in 2004.

I participate in tris for many reasons and the couple of big ones is training makes me happy and I like how it makes my body feel and another it helps me keep my weight in check. Still not at my ideal weight but without tris I know I wouldn't be in the place I am today.

Yesterday I swam and ran and felt pretty good. Today the plan was to do 2 hour trainer ride (boooo! I want to be riding out in Solvang not on the stupid CT) with 2 10' zone 3 intervals...5' into first one I decided to drop intensity back to zone 2 as my legs were responding like it was more like zone 4 effort. Shows I still have quite a lot of fatigue from last weeks bike volume. Interesting how zone 2 feels okay.

I worked things out with my bike shop so once my Ordu comes back from CA I can bring it in and get parts moved to the new frame.

My Dad isn't doing well. He has had to skip his chemo last few weeks and has been losing weight rapidly. He is 6'2" and now weighs 128.

In the scheme of what's going in my life and ongoing knee issues not sure I'll do IMLP this year. I may go and swim/bike and DNF but have awhile to decide.  The next month of training should help me know what's right.

A friend convinced me to join a marathon relay team shortly after college and I got hooked on the training and the race.  Did my first tri the next year.  I found the training and racing gave me a sense of satisfaction - I work hard, and I get results.  Some people found that in their jobs, but I could do neither (I had no meaningful work or any results).  Training was an outlet after a mind numbingly boring day in the office.  I eventually became pretty depressed in my work life - I tried so hard to find work and to be productive but it seemed like my boss and organization were out to stop me from providing them anything useful in return for the salary they paid me.  Without the training, I couldn't have gotten through it.  Luckily, I've switched jobs, but am busy enough with meaningful work (and have too many bad work habits from my days of boredom, e.g. reading BT all day, that make it tough!).  I think the job is why I dove in so fast and hard into Tri's.  I'm curious to see what happens now that I'm much more job satisfied.

Oh Kathy - so sorry to hear. Sounds like (as always) you have the proper outlook and perspective on the importance of the larger picture. First things first, right?

Interesting Joe.  Hopefully you can find a way to keep at the training.  It looks like you could be pretty darn fast if you keep after it.

Oh that is SO NOT GOOD FOR YOU! I recall reading somewhere a while back that it was much healthier to slow down, have a seat, relax and take your time when you eat your breakfast. That is why I always take a bath instead of a shower.

You know that would solve the problem of getting water in my oatmeal. Just let the bowel float.

OK, so yes - I am procrastinating this morning. I have a progression run scheduled, and I just hate them. It is weird - this is the only workout that I literally dread. Anybody else have one of those?

Do you have any tips for this?  I would love to get more done in the AM, but I have a 45 min commute and get to work at 7-7:30, so getting out of bed that much earlier is often the hardest thing.  That's my issue though (going to be earlier, motivation, etc).

What I struggle with and a reason I sometimes don't get out of bed (or get out of bed but decide not to do the workout anyway) is that it's just hard to get moving that early.  I have no food in me, I generally feel tighter, and everything feels very heavy/labored for at least the first half of the workout, like I have no energy.  I don't like that feeling.

Kathy - I hope things improve for your Dad.  I also hope you start to recover some more so you can do all of LP - like Fred suggested, you've got lots of time, so keep believing you'll be doing the whole race.

I'm in the same boat as you joe - just can't get it going early in the am.  I've tried and haven't been too successful.  I'm doing the 6x4min intervals from Jorge's winter plan today, but they'll be in the evening, cause they just hurt too much for first thing.  Rusty - the 6x4's are a workout I dread...

x2.  I've given up on early morning workouts.  Doesn't fit my schedule anyway.  Only exception is an early start to a long weekend ride.
