Yanti, I just read the epic race report.

Epic is a great word for it!

You are amazing.  I love the picture in your volunteer shirt.  Despite all that  you went through, you managed an amazing smile.  Heh, I also loved the picture of Rinny signing  your melon.  The guy in the background with his hand on his chin is clearly looking at your melons, LOL.

Ditto

I'm sorry that they had to pull you from the bike, but it sounded like you were in dire need of medical attention.  Glad there was a piglet to aid you.  Can't imagine having to ride 112 miles in those chilly conditions.  I hate to be cold.

What was the temperature?

Drum roll please ... the water temperature was 51.8F, as was the air temperature for much of the day. The high was 14C, whatever that was in F. (Still cold!)

My core temperature was 93F at the med tent, already after being wrapped up in the truck with the heat on full blast.

Yikes!  Beach2Battleship was warmer both when I did the HIM in 2010 and the full in 2011!

51.8 degree water!  Oooo!  I kinda sorta want to to St. George.  The hills sound brutal but it's the water temp that scares me most.  Oh, and the wind (and general weather variability)

(14C = 57.2F)

I changed my flat tired in record time! I am getting better! Jen even noticed. She said, "Wow, not a single curse word uttered..." Normally my fights with tubes and tires end in cut up fingers, a string of curse words and blackened hands.

I bought new tires but I am thinking in order to keep my blood pressure low I might want to have the LBS do it when I get a tune up. Have you guys ever put new tires on your rims? I imagine it's a lot more difficult but I could be wrong.

Also, tomorrow is my birthday!!! We are going to do a running tour of a bunch of the microbreweries here in Seattle! Should be a good time.

I have done new tires.  They are a little tighter than broken in ones but not too bad.  I left my tire in my garage on a summer day, over 100f, to let it warm up and loosen.  Leaving it in the sun and I've heard clothes dryer can help loosen it up enough to get it on.  Might have you go back to yelling and cursing though.

jimmyb - 2012-03-29 8:24 PM Thanks for all the well wishes.  I woke up out of A Fib and was able to do my long run today.  Seems I go into this rhythm about 2 times a year (at least that's when I'm aware of it).  I'm still able to run and bike but swimming is definitely out when the rhythm rears its ugly head.
Hope that your texas IM training is not too affected. With a bit of luck, you won't see it again 'til late in the year.

So, how was everyone's month?  I reached most of my goals but still fell short in both my swim, and in total training volume (about 10%).  I do try to keep up the with the Fink plan mostly in terms of volume, but as I've alluded to before, I modify the plan frequently out of necessity.

My question to the group, is:  if you are following a training plan, how close do you get to 100% completion of all activities?

Hey all!

To answer your question Jimmy, I have been following a personalized training plan from my coach--while I attempt to complete every workout (generally its 5-6 per week), I don't always succeed--I might miss one every other week. I have actually found that if I do miss a workout now and again, I actually tend to improve in the following workouts. My coach has said that I am one of the few clients that regularly follows the plan she gives. SO I would say I am at about a 90% completion rate.

As for the last month, my totals are nearly the same as the previous month, and it took (in one case) a longer amount of time to complete the distance...odd, as I felt like I was improving my speed...Oh well, I'll just keep pluggin'.

I'm horrible about keeping to my plan, I'm very good about finding excuses/reasons to miss a workout here and there.  This past month 2 weeks I was 1-2 workouts from exact times and the other weeks...  well not so much.  I am realizing though how important it is to get closer to 90% and actually follow the suggested workouts.  All of last year I would just go to the pool and swim sets of 500 for however long my plan called for, besides being extremely boring I didn't see alot of gains.  This year while I have not been 100% on hitting workouts I have been seeing improvements by following the prescribed workouts.

I had a great time! It was in no way my best performance, but the race itself was really nice. Ocean was flat and clear and about 78 degrees, bike was through south beach with many causeway crossings and the run was brutal . It was about 90 degrees by the time I was running and my lack of recent running, along with still complaining bootay made this the worse run I have ever done! Thank goodness it was only four miles- I felt each step of those miles. I knew going it that the run would be bad, so my goal was survival. I hit my goal! Ended up 8 th in my AG, so still not too bad. Loved my p2! I was able to go way faster then my bike fitness should have allowed.Overall I had a wonderful time and will definitely try to do this race again. Now, I'm sitting on my couch drinking a beer. what a nice day thanks for asking.

Great job Ann-Marie! I think you did better than 'surviving' though--8th in your age group is nothing to sneeze at!

YEA ANN-MARIE!!!

You did awesome. I must admit I'm pretty jealous of the 78 degree water temp. Water here for Oceanside yesterday (which I did not race) was 56-58, some ridiculously cold temperature.

I saw where they have a 70.3 race in Miami in late October. Any interest? Sounds glorious.

Again, big high Manatee flipper five for a job well-done!

Thanks!  I've considered the 70.3 Miami, but think that I will either do Miamiman half iron in Nov or the new Rev3 Sarasota half in October.

I can't imagine swimming in 50* water - the coldest I've done is 75*!

I follow my training plan pretty closely.  I'm 100% for 2012 (knock wood).  It helps that I use a coach so the plan is tailored to me and takes into account things like if I have to travel for work or I have tickets to a hockey game (so can work out in the morning but not after work).
