Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by kns57 Hello Ghoulies! Just checking in. Vacation plans changed. My SIL's grandfather passed away, so they headed here to GA for the funeral. I have had all four kids here since Friday, while the parents are in south GA. I am worn out. Sat we were at the pool for 4 hours, and today for 3 hours. Plus the neighbor boys were here so I really had 6 kids, not 4. This grandma is tired. I have had quite the workout. Tomorrow we are going to LegoLand Discovery Zone and will get the grandkids their birthday presents for this year. Since we don't really get to be with them on their birthdays, we do a surprise birthday for all of them together. Last year it was at Thanksgiving, this year it will be TOMORROW and they don't know it yet. Their parents will be here tomorrow evening and they they will all leave here on Tuesday. So since our vacation plans changed, we have enjoyed our time with the grandkids, but have time on our hands after they leave, so we are going to Hilton Head for three nights. Woot! I get to go to the beach. WOW! You are going to need a few days at Hilton Head to recover from the "grandkid effect". I am tired just reading about it all. Have a fun Birthday party tonight. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by ironannekidd Good morning Ghoulies! Not too much happened this weekend, I was on call so I was tied pretty close to the house and my phone. I normally do the Nike+ trainer on the xbox Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun. Caleb does it Tues, Thur, Sat. When he does it I'm down there with him giving some encouragment, telling him during different drills how much time is left, like if he's dong mountain climbers or burpees and can't see the timer. So on Saturday we both were doing it. He went first. When he was done he want to grab a shower. It took me a few minutes to get switched over to my account. I was just finishing up the warm up when he came back downstairs. He sat down there and gave encouragement and would tell me how much longer I had to go during some of the drills. He's a good kid. Taking Keri to a pitching clinic tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Either Thursday or Friday evening we will do some back to school shopping. I'll be away all day on Saturday at a kayaking class. Not sure if I'll go on the kayaking trip open to everyone on Sunday or not. It depends on how me and my shoulder feel after 8 yours of kayaking on Saturday. You all needed a relaxing weekend. Sounds like your week, and next weekend are pretty jam=packed full.. as usual! Caleb is indeed a good kid! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a jam packed weekend. Yardwork Saturday where I was actually in the garden for a change. I harvested Garlic and onions which are now curing on the dining room table. I'll chop them up and put them in the freezer this week. A bushel of peaches chopped and in the freezer. 15 pounds of cabbage picked, chopped and now on the way to becoming sauerkraut. I had my monthly 5 K to do, so I did it on the treadmill. It was way too hot to be out in the afternoon. We had a boat tie up in the middle of the lake. Several boats of people gathering. It was to get some more folks aware of what the local land conservancy has done around here. From the middle of the lake, you can look around and almost all of the view has been, at least partially, protected from development by this group. I am really proud to say that Jim and I were instrumental in getting the State Park here at Chimney Rock. It was going to be sold to Dollywood, godforbid! Sunday I got up and rode the 12 mile bike route for the LL tri. Damnation, that is one hilly ride. My friend Eileen is slow, so I waited for her at the tops of hills, then turned around and rode with her. She is amazing. If she had a faster bike and clip-less pedals, she would smoke me. And she has only been riding for a month and a half! I noodled around the house doing laundry, then Jim and I went to the Biltmore house to ride MT bikes on their trails. Their trails are pretty tame, so it was good for a first ride with Jim. He was supposed to wait 6 months before getting on a bike, and it has been 4. He did great, but we didn't go too far, especially on the gravelly, bumpy trails that uphill. A couple of friends met us and we had dinner at one of the restaurants on the Estate. There was a Cheryl Crow concert at the House and we drove around the back side to see if we could hear. The night bug noises drowned Ms. Crow out. Fun, varied week end. Now... Back to work! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning Ghoulies! Back to work today. And of course I stayed up too late reading last night! Why do I do this to myself???? You would think that at my age I would have learned better! But it is not a heavy day at work, and this afternoon I go for acupuncture which is very relaxing. I will get a good nap then! I am fixing Balsamic Chicken in the crockpot, so dinner will be easy! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning Ghoulies! So Keri ended up not doing the pitching clinic this week, which is fine with me. She was down at her aunt's house yesterday, she gathered all the kids for the day to let them play around her farmette. I called around 3:00 to tell Keri I'd be there at 3:30 to pick her up. She said she was invited to stay for dinner, they were having steak and corn on the cob and I forget what else. I told her if she wanted to stay then stay, if she wanted to pitch we'd go pitch. She wanted to stay. She had a long season, they started in February, and their last game was last Tuesday. She earned her break. Last night I just kind of bummed around, but tonight Caleb and I have to workout. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning Ghoulies! Sounds like a restful, summer night for you Ann! Those are good, too. (political stuff) Jim and I went last night to be radical protesters. NC has gotten out of hand lately. We are now 50th in teacher pay, teacher certifications have been eliminated in private schools (not public) money is being taken and given to private schools, while public school funds have been slashed by 75 % (in 2 years). You have to get a blessing from the Pope to vote (a tad of an exaggeration there). Environmental laws ware being eliminated, local zoning regs have been obliterated, water systems have been taken from local (elected) control and been privatized, as have prisons, jails and airports. Road maintenance slashed, but cutting trees for bill boards is now paid for by my taxes. We are on a fast track for fracking and mineral rights laws have been weakened (meaning they can laterally mine under my property and I can't do a thing about it). Medicare and Medicaid has been slashed, worker comp has been slashed, early ed, womens health. The list goes on. At the same time, middle class taxes were increased, tax exemptions (like mortgage) has been eliminated, while the tax rate on rich folks was severely reduced. People are pissed off and it is not just the liberal fringe. It was a great event last night 10,000 people came out and they were of every different type. If I were our governor and aa good number of elected officials, I would be looking for another job. (end political stuff) On another note. We had 3 days without rain. Friday with no rain was the first day with no rain in 2.5 months! It is raining now. (which is a good thing, if it doesn't last for weeks.. I was having to water |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Robin, I've read some of what NC and TX are doing lately and it's like they've regressed 100 years. It's time to get the politicians who are only looking out for their own interests out of there and put in someone who truly is for the people. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There is a guy here at work who was to be on vacation from last Thursday until this coming Sunday. He was taking his wife to Spain for vacation. He used a travel agent, whom he paid money to for the trip. He's telling us now how they were minutes away from leaving, trying to contact the TA about their plans, needing their tickets and all, only to find that even though the TA took their money he never actually bought their tickets. They had paid money for a hotel in Spain, they may not get all of that back. He's back at work today. He's a bit upset with the TA. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Has anyone else noticed how weird the weather has been this year. It is August and I wore a jacket to work this morning. I had a sweatshirt and jeans on when I was outside on Saturday. We had more snow in March-April than we did in January-February. There have been several tropical storms in the Pacific Ocean this year. It's just weird. I'm thinking about getting Donnie a generator for his birthday in October. He is Mr. Practical and after Superstorm Sandy last year we lost everything in our refrigerator and several things out of the freezer. Not to mention not having lights or being able to even get a little water out of the sink to wash your face, or being able to flush the toilet. His dad has one that everyone on the road took turns using, but 1 generator for 6 houses when you are without power for days isn't enough. |

As long as they are used safely. They are on our list of "things to get".fortunatly, we have water, hot water, and can cook on the stove when the power goes out. We have heat in the winter-time with the gas fireplace(s). Just no fridge, freezer or entertainment. We planned it that way, we lose power here all the time. Yes, the weather is wonky. It is going to stay this way, I am afraid. Record heat last year, record drought the year before, record rain and cool this year. I feel for the farmers!

I liked the amount of pressure he used, I've had some women who hardly had any pressure at all. Anyway... he had a cold, and he sniffed the entire time I was getting the massage. It was very annoying, and I couldn't relax. I'm sure he got over his cold, but I never went back there. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() *warning* being a bit of a crankybutt here
I don't really like potlucks where they assign a catagory of food. I understand why, but it can be very inconvenient. I have a potluck at 1:00 Sunday afternoon. I have been assigned "Main Dish". It so happens that the same Sunday, I am working at church to help with both services. So I am at church from 8:00 to 12:15. So I have to figure out something that I can prepare on Saturday and have DH put in the oven either before or after he is at church 9:00 to 10:30. Someone else is already taking lasagne. Any ideas? I could go buy KFC chicken but I really do want to cook something.
Okay, hopefully my little rant is over. So minor in the scheme of things! |

Okay, hopefully my little rant is over. So minor in the scheme of things! Get a large (or 2 small) pork roast and put it in a crockpot on Saturday morning to cook. This could take 6-7 hours depending on the size. Once it is cooked well take it out of the crockpot and shred the meat. Then put the meat back in the crockpot with some good BBQ sauce, don't use the cheap stuff. Let it cook for an hour or 2. On Sunday morning you can take it along to church, plug it in somewhere and set it on low and you're good to go. I have seen some recipes where you can add onions, or onion powder, some use a can of coke, all kinds of other stuff, but I've gotten a lot of compliments just using BBQ sauce. Um... you're not a vegetarian are you? |

I too have had that experience, and yes it is annoying. Plus a few of my clients are more fragile health-wise so they have to be extra careful. Thankfully I am not to the "sniffing" phase. Just a scratchy throat. I am taking zinc and vit C. Hopefully it will make it go away. |
