Going to do a couple of outdoor training sessions over the next few days. Supposed to be sunny and anywhere from 15 to 20 degress C (59-68 F)here until at least Friday. The bike is coming down and hitting the road both cycling and running.
I didn't realize it but I have gained about 6 lbs since my last race in Sept. Not a good sign. I need to eat better and a little less.

Always good to get that training in when the weather is nice enough.  Are you doing one of the Winter maintenance plans?

I'm not doing a specific trainng program right now which is probably why I have packed on a couple of pounds. I still get in some good training but realized I am still eating as if I was training for a race.

It is called your "Winter Weight."  Like bears (only opposite seasons) we fatten up during the winter months and use all our stored fat that we have accumulated in the winter to help get us through the summer months!

It's TOTALLY NORMAL!

Ok early panic questions about my first full mary coming up in January.

1. How much do you bike when getting ready for a full mary? I am currently biking 250-300 miles a month, is that too much, should I not worry about cutting back on the bike until like 3-5 weeks before the run, etc.?
2. I have averaged 90 ish miles run per month for the year with typical long runs of 13 miles and amping that up slowly over the last month to 14, 15 16, 18.5 (race). I know I need to get some longer runs in and they are on the menu, but how much total run miles per week do you think is a good number to shoot for (45+ is what I am hearing) with like 2-3 20 + mile runs in there for a decent shot at a good race.
3. How much of a taper is common for full mary, I am thinking 2 weeks with a 60 % week and then just a few lite jogs 2-3 miles every other day for the last week, your thoughts?

Do you mean it doesn't float fast?  That's been my experience.  Times haven't come down much, but the effort needed has increased and I feel slower.  It didn't help that Mini Phelps was in the lane next to me this morning.  The kid was even fast on his kick drills.

That is so true.  The last time I went swimming I was in the lane next to the swim teams. Getting dusted by 8 year olds is not cool at all.  Especially when they are doing flip turns and you look like you are having a heart attack in the pool trying to do the same thing.

That is why I train w/ the "FLIPPERS" on in the off season!  Makes me feel better about myself!!!

Had a PR run on the treadmill today, no thanks to a training buddy....

Volume, and speed work are starting to pay off (I HOPE!)....

Wolf, can't help you on the marathon training won't start mine until next year.

Went to the pool for a 3rd time with the wetsuit.  I made sure I pulled it up as far as I could to have plenty of room in the shoulders.  Same result, my arms get completely worn out about 500M in.

I think the wetsuit is fine it is my swim stroke that sucks and the suit is probably better designed for those that have decent technique.  Though before I got tired I was doing 1:45 100's with it on.

They have a practice swim on Saturday and a wetsuit demo day, you can rent the wetsuit if you want for the tri, so I am going to try out a sleeveless and see how it goes.  I can do the swim without the wetsuit if it comes down to it, it is only 1000M (lol I can't believe I am saying only...)

Getting very antsy to get on the train and head to nice warm Miami.

1st off good luck this weekend at the race....

When you are trying wetsuits, try a FULL WETSUIT (same size as your current one, or larger) and compare the fit to your current suit!!! If I remember you bought this craiglist, second hand, or website?  So many it doesn't fit properly?!  1:45 with some discomfort?  That is pretty nice.... But that is the wrong feeling to have!  You should be "normal" if not better!! Good luck! I am curious to hear the outcome!

Thanks, will be my first Olympic, only really worried about the swim since I blew up in my only other OWS so far.

Yeah I bought it from someone on ST.  I will try out another full sleeve and see how it feels.  I am a short stocky muscular (at least I like to think so) type of build so I have big legs, shoulders, (and belly).  Stuff fits me kind of oddly because of it, maybe wetsuits are the same way.

Really want to try a Desoto T1 so I can mix and match to get a better fit.

Good luck on the Oly Tony. When I started using a wet suit this past season I had one fitted at the beginning. I never really had any trouble getting used to the suit. My arms didn't bother me at all after the first swim. It does take a little getting used to but it shouldn't cause that kind of discomfort. Try slowing down your stroke a little until you get comfortable in it. Tracy is absolutely right about getting it pulled up high on the shoulders though. If you don't do that you will be fighting the suit all the wqay through your swim. The same actully goes for the legs. Pull up high into the crotch.

Very rarely is this good advice - this happens to be one of those times.

I did experience a little more fatigue in the shoulders when I first started swimming in my suit, but that only lasted a swim or two.

Yeah I had pulled my full all the way up and tried to get as much to my shoulders as I could and still had the same issue.

Rented a sleeveless today for $35, might try it out tonight or tomorrow before we leave.

Luck with the Oly. I have done 2.5 miles ish in my full suit without any unusual shoulder issues. Well ya I got to breath offside more often, but other than that 8). It may well be a fit issue.

Sounds too good tro be true.

Went for a 35K ride today. What a great day. Weather about 65F 19c no wind, the sun was shining and I got my new biking jacket. Are they ever warm. I had to zip it down several times during the ride. I didn't track the time but I think around 1:20 /1:25. If only the whole winter was that nice.

Thanks for the link Steve!  Similar to the 1/2 price wetsuit sales they do.  Just curious, how do you tell the watch it's a new lap?  Do you push one of the buttons on the side of it at each turn (or whatever interval)?

They don't make them anymore but all I have to do is hit that big red button every lap, tells me my lap time then back to overall time.

Ok kids I am out of here, not sure if the hotel has internet access, but packing up to get on the train, should be an interesting trip, never taken the auto-train before, they load your car up (with bikes on/in it) and you get on, go to bed tonight in our cabin and wake up tomorrow in Florida.

Speaking of sales...... anyone want a new pair of race wheels?

http://www.competitivecyclist.com/road-bikes/components/zipp/wheels.269.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=Campaign+Monitor&utm_content=355007778&utm_campaign=2008+Zipp+Wheelset+Sale&utm_term=Zipp+Wheels

BEING A WOMAN CAN SUCK!!!!!  I did a 20 minute stretching routine last night and think I hurt my back.  I use to be able to bend like a rubber band and now I am proud that I can still shave my legs!! (slight exaggeration but you get the point). Funny, I remember when I was giving birth my OB commented that my extreme flexibility was a great thing for "making room" for the baby and now I make all kinds of funny noises when I try to do a back bend.  WHAT HAPPENED!!!  I refuse to admit I am getting old so I'll blame it on the kids.  Loss of flexibility and that wonderful excess skin around my belly from having such large babies.  BE THANKFUL YOU ARE GUYS!!!!

Sorry about the rant.  T.M.I.  I know.  I'll go take my MIDOL now

On a happier note.  If anyone is interested in a truly inspirational race report, read this one by my friend Deana.  There was a thread about her a while ago when she went into heart failure in the pool during her IMFL training and ultimately lost a leg.  She didn't let that stop her and jumped right back into her training for a local 1/2 ironman distance in NC.  I've trained with her a few times and volunteered at a race with her as well.  She is hilarious.  Not an ounce of self pity and has a very raw sense of humor (kind of like some guys I know )  She is also the person who posted the thread this summer about her different types of prosthetic legs titled, "she's got legs and she knows how to use them."  She is a very cool chick.

I feel so bad... You can't stretch and this makes you different than guys how?  You can't shave your legs because you can't stretch and this makes you different than MALE TRIATHLETES HOW?

The birth thing... WELL YOU WIN THERE!
