Not sure what to do about the wetsuit and watch situation...I may need to sacrifice some hydrodynamics (LOL-like it would make a difference for me) and have my watch outside of my wetsuit and take it off coming out of the water as there is no way that I would be able to get the suit off easily otherwise.
possibly a dumb question: is there a specific advantage to having it on during the swim, other than you know your actual race time right away?

I love data so I think I'd go crazy if I didn't have an idea of what my swim time was.

I try to have things set up so there's as little switching, changing, strapping, etc in transition.

Day 2 of no soda for me is a little harder. I'm craving one right now! But it's also noon and I've already had 64 ounces of water. I'll get more familiar with the bathroom. I was in the bathroom feeling around the piriformis to see if I could find any sore spots, and was glad no one walked in at that moment.

hey guys!
i'm not caught up-was running errands all day yesterday (does anyone want to know how much I LOVE COSTCO!?!?) and i'm going to be running around a bunch today too, but i wanted to stop in and say howdy-i haven't run in 6 WHOLE DAYS, and i'm getting fussy about it. so i'll run this morning (as soon as it's more than 34 degrees-i know, but i'm a baby) yesterday i started having fantasies about getting on my bike, but it tried to snow last night, and now it's all icy and nasty out, NOT good bike weather, especially when i'm still REALLY not used to the clips. SOON though. i'm pretty much OVER this winter thing, and i'm ready for a big hit of spring.

Hi gang. I'm just checking in. Things have been pretty low key as far as workouts go this last week. There's a lot of ice out on the paths, so running outside really isn't a good option. I'm waiting for a little warmer weather before I start running again. There's really no excuse why I'm not swimming yet. Maybe next week.:-)

sure, sure, rub it in. There isn't a Costco around here for 60 miles. Or a Performance. Or a Trader Joe's. Don't think there's a Whole Foods, either.

I agree with Nicole on the Performance thing! we hate that store...RUDE RUDE PEOPLE WORK THERE! we had bought soooooooooo much from them...and no matter how NOT busy the employees were, they would practically roll their eyes when you asked for help! and the straw that broke the ponies back...so to speak was when we were riding in the area...and had a mechanical problem...we went by the store and asked to borrow a tool and they FLAT OUT SAID NO! we never have stepped foot back in that store or ANY PERFORMANCE since! MEAN PEOPLE SUCK! they made us push our bikes about a mile down the road to go to the next bike shop...which was the best thing that ever happened to us! very nice family owned shop and HELPFUL! they even fixed our bike for free!

BTW: the performance shop I spoke of is no longer in business! IMAGINE THAT!!!!

civilization? Ha!

I thought with all of our recent New Jersey yuppie transplants we'd get Trader Joe's and Costco, but not yet... and doubtful they will be expanding with the current economy. Alas.

BUT, we do have Wegman's. It's a 30-min drive out of my way, but the food quality (and price) is so much better than the redneck stores near my house.

I've sadly only found one really nice bike shop, but it's over an hour away. Bike shop mechanics see a fat chick and they'll sell you what you ask for, but they definitely have an attitude.

In fact, the one shop actually told my partner that maybe he didn't have the type of body to ride a bicycle when he said to salesman that the 60 cm bike felt too big. No offer to take inseam measurement or anything.

Offthegrid - 2009-02-26 11:00 PM excellent post re: trigger points! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I wouldn't be surprised if piriformis is involved also... I had some issues with that which I thought had cleared up but maybe have resurfaced and I need to pay more attention. How do you tell whether it's piriformis vs. gluteus minimus? I have pain in my calf, Achilles and heel. It's kind of a mess right now but already doing better from all the self-massage yesterday. It is a tough thing to massage yourself when it hurts so much!

In my case the problem was on the outside of the right calf and the TP for that was on the side of the right cheek.   The TPs for the gluteus minimus and piriformis which affect the back of the calf are really close to each other and it is best to just work the entire area and concentrate on the spot (or spots) that hurt the most.  I'm guessing you now have a chart that shows them.    These TPs are pretty deep and hurt like hell if that is your problem.    Not sure what you are using to get at them.   I use a hard rubber ball (actually a rubber baseball) - a softer ball (tennis ball) may be better to start.

If the problem is affecting your calf, achilles and heel, look to the Gastroc.   There are three TPs for the Gastroc.

In the case of my knees, I had knots in 6 or 7 different muscles that I had to work through.  It took me a while to get it sorted out because some of the knots in the quads were really deep.   More often than not (my experience), you don't  feel the pain at the TP until you find it and start working on it.

Take your time and only inflict a level of pain that is tolerable.   Also note that bruising is not unusual.

This video explains what I believe to be true.

I believe that ever race we do, whether it is a mini, sprint, oly, half or full IM...it is an personal TRIumph!!!! It is a great witness to other that you can accomplish great things if you have perserverance...I'm proud of everyone here that puts forth an effort to change and transform themselves.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!!

Ooh! I'm thinking about making Silverman my first 140.6 in a few years. Two of my other teammates (my local tri team) went last year and said it's really tough, but really great because it's small. I hope it doesn't get too big, too fast ...

Thanks for the inspire Amy!
