yeah no doubt.

My Garmin said the run at Eagleman had 1,000 ft elevation gain. (Eagleman is completely flat btw)

Again, I dunno about LP elevation gain, but would stand by the idea that measuring this can be very inaccurate. We had a long discussion with Marma and Breckview about elevation gain within the last year. It highlighted some of the difficulties in obtaining this measurement... I'll see if I can find that discussion, as it was pretty informative.

I remember that thread as well as one on ST about elevation. If you are so inclined, just add up all the net climbing in the chart you posted. I'm gonna be pretty close. I think Kona is like 1000 tops. It's pretty intuitive. If a course has a low point of 1650 and a high point of 1900, you would need to run up and down that 20 times to make it 5000 feet. This course has you do it a grand total of twice. High's and low's are easy to measure with an altimeter.

IMLP is about in the middle of challenging run courses in the WTC IM circuit. Middle towards hard, maybe, with Florida and AZ being the most flat. If IMAZ climbs 200 feet total I would be shocked. And this information DOES matter for an athlete. The data I record for all my workouts is HR, pace, elevation, distance, temperature. Once you understand these and how they relate to yourself as an athlete, you can anticipate and be more predictive.

What is the Run Course Elevation?

My Garmin 405 reported 5003ft of ascent.

That can't be right, that's almost as much as the bike course.

Ha!  You’re absolutely right.  That can’t be right.   I'll see if I can’t pull the Garmin tcx file into Google earth and see if it converts it.

I think the inherent problem is the measured points or lack of consistency between measured points with GPS.

OK I could not sleep so I imported the Garmin tcx file into map my ride.  The total ascent is 620ft and sounds a lot better.  The following link is the course clink show elevation to get that.

Yup coming up soon. Amazing how fast the date sneeks up on you...
Plenty of time left! Still 4 months of good training ahead of us! That's a lot of miles still to go.

Definitely!  I am currently rigging up my aero bottle, have got the tri bike off the trainer and hoping it will be warm enough to do most of my 4hr ride outside tomorrow

Just got fitted on my road bike.  Bike shop guy says a road bike would be a good idea, but Rstocks says tri bike would be better (for triathlon in general, but LP in particular). Not that it makes any difference to me, but what is the difference with one vs the other, particularly for this course?

rstocks could probably convert your bike for you (I jest!).

I went with a road bike as my first bike for triathlons for the versatility generally.  I used it for Lake Placid and I have heard it said that road bikes in general tend to climb better than tri bikes - so for a hilly course like LP I would have thought a road bike would be a perfectly good choice.
(I do have a tri bike now and hope I can get up those hills just as well! - but I still think I made a good decision first time round)

Officially took the trainer tire off, how exciting! Finally got to log some miles outside today. It looks like we are going to have nice weather all week, perfect weather to be out doors training.

130 DAYS and Counting...

Excuse me, for I’ve been told to stop everything but swimming for a bit and now I’m bored.  I’d like to put out a “please let me be your friend so I can look at your logs while I’m out with an injury statement.”  I’ll be a good friend, I won’t inspire daily but I will inspire occasionally.  I won’t steal your program but I may borrow some of it!  I’m an ex-cop (Gallup NM), ex-Air Force K-9 handler, ex-stay at home dad, now 5th grade teacher with a wonderful wife (Rowena - Naval Doctor) and three wonderful kids, Madeline (5), Gracie (4), and Christopher (3).  I was born in NY but grew up in New Mexico.  We’ll be in Okinawa for another 1.5 - 2 years then we head back to the Maryland area…hopefully.  See I’m not too bad, how about letting me look at your logs??????

While I’ve got you here….

What’s up with all the secrecy?  I know that some people block their logs to friends only because of incidents with weirdo’s but it was much more fun when you could just check and see what everyone else was doing without having to ask.

Is it that your arch-nemesis is on BT too and you’re afraid he’s going to see your training plan and mimic it?

What is the criterion for the people you do let see your logs?  Do you have to know them?  Do they have to ask?  Do they have to buy you beers?

Like I said I’m bored and my 5th graders are taking their yearly standardized tests, so I have nothing to do except wait until I get to swim tonight.

Happy Training!

I've wondered this myself, but some people are just better at being internet savvy and realize there's no limit to what can be done with personal information...

Feel free to look at my schitt though!

I think very few are worried about giving away "secret training tips."

some people write personal stuff on their blogs, information about kids, family, etc, and dont need or want the whole world looking at it at will.

I can understand this.  Most will add you if you ask and if you've been around the forums for a while......

mine are public, so read away!..hope you heal up quick!

Papson14:

Read away!  Take some of the workouts if you like them.  Actually, I populate me workout folders any time I see a workout that I like.  I think there is no magic workout, but how you put them together.  If someone followed my plan exactly they would not get the same thing out of it that I do.

I would not recommend following my plan exactly though.  I say that because I got sick this past week and I would not wish that on anyone!

Another reason folks make their blogs private is you get creepy inspires from people you don't know so you make your blog private.

Glad nobody is looking at my logs......I was so tired last night I got on the wrong train home from NYC, fell asleep and woke up two towns over. So much for working out when I got home!

Mine is friends only.  Too many creepy PMs from BTers I'd never heard of, who had no logs, no forum posts, etc.  Has nothing to do with not wanting people to see my training, everything to do with being freaked out by all the people on the internet.

Some people just attract creepy people, I guess I think this guy wanted to PM you.  I think he's having a party.
