Scott,

That's such good news.

I have faith that you will be on your feet in no time.  What a testament to the human will and the power of positive thinking.

Go Ironman Go!  You continue to be in our prayers,

My dad is a bowel cancer survivor - ten years now.  Again had it for years without knowing, huge operation for him in his late sixties at the time, chemo - secodnary tumours in lungs - twice.  But after three separate years of chemo he appears to be in good health!  Appreciating life as only those who have been touched by serious illness can.

I wish you well I wish you all the strength you need, I wish you a successful outcome like my dad.  I don't often get to cry at my desk at work - but your story touched me.

Good luck and may God be with you in this battle.

That is great news Scott - I will keep you in my thoughts this next week.

On another great note - first xcountry ski today!   Probably should have waited for one more snow to avoid the punishment to my skis but it was great to get out!

Happy Weekend everyone!

You are in the right place to enjoy the cold and snow for skiing!

First run in a while, and first without a ITB or hammy issue!  Now I just need to rebuild the run fitness! Tongue out

Hey guys!  I just signed up for Iron Girl 2012!

Registration opened at 9:00 am this morning for the event in Columbia, MD.  The site received so many hits within the first half hour, it had to shut down.  It just reopened at 1:00 pm and hopefully my friends will be able to get through!

Thinking of you Scott.  Hope all goes well tomorrow.

Cross country skiing!  Now that's a workout.  Have fun!

Glad to hear you are in for another season Vivian!! Woo hoo!

I signed up for IM Florida yesterday, my 2nd there, 3rd overall.  I told my wife last night I was more excited about this one than either of the previous 2!!

The race sold out on line in under 18 minutes!

Man, now I'm totally upset would have a chance to race with Ken, was online right when it opened got all the way to paying and hit submit to find it was sold out...had a friend down there that said there were only like 400 spots available online...So now I'm considering Louisville..

I did a 10k this past weekend and set another PR from 49:57 to 48:54..Finished 4/24 AG...44/503 overall missed third by 14 seconds..

Have a HM coming up this weekend...Really been trying to work on my run along with doing some strength circuit training..

Congrats Ken on getting in For IMFL..I will probably be volunteering so I can get a spot for 2013..I was looking to do this for my first one, was wanting to move to an IM in 2012..

Iceman hope everything goes well..Prayers are with you and your family..

Vivian - what is the Iron Girl distances? - second season, awesome!

Ken - Ironman FL! very cool, though it sounds hot.

Question for everyone - I am in need of the cleats that you put on the bottom of your shoes for running in icy conditions.  Has anyone ever used these?  If so, what brand (yaktraxs or other)?

We had almost a foot of snow over the weekend and have a new pet - Morris the Moose who is now living in our back yard!

When I did the race in 2010 the temp at the start was 38!  Fortunately the water temp was in the 70's!

I haven't used the yaktraxs, but hear they work good!  We get a lot of snow, but it gets cleared off pretty quick so usually the trail shoes work good enough.

Sorry folks, the moose out front should have told you. The park is closed! Innocent

Robin, you need to post a pic of Morris.

The distances for IG are: .6 mi. swim, 17.5 mi. bike, 3.6 mi. run.  The bike course is moderately hilly with one whopper right before the turn around.  The run is also hilly, I ended up walking most of it last year.  My goal this year is to improve my time and to run the entire distance.

Scott- best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Viv- great to see you signed up for next year. I am glad to see you are racing again, and that you were able to sign up for that race that you had such a good time at last year.

Ken- IMFL! Cool; any big goals?

Tim-Congrats on another 10K PR! One of my big goals for next year is to go sub 50 minutes in a 10K

Robin- I run outdoors all Winter, and use yaktrax when there is snow on the ground, and they work pretty well. I've run in maybe 6 inches of fresh snow with no problem, but I think it might be difficult if there is a foot of snow. I have to say, running on a country rood with no cars, temps in the teens, before sunrise, a few inches of snow on the ground and still snowing is some of my favorite running weather. Also, that is a good looking moose!

Yes, I have some big goals, doing this race for a 2nd time it is easy to analyze the results and find areas of improvement.  When I did it last time the goal was to run the entire marathon, which I did.  This time I would like to improve on the run time, improve the bike time significantly, a little improvement on the swim.  And with a 16 minute T1, I have some time here to gain as well. Too early to get more specific, but I would like to see a big improvement over 2010!
