Robin, are you getting that big storm that the news was talking about?  Sounds like a hurricane with ice and snow!  I hope all is well if you are!

Scott, from your FB posts it sounds like your surgery went ok!

No storms here - they are to the north and west.  They do look nasty though!

Day 3 of the orthotics (broke down and decided to try them out after doc said they would help - luckily insurance paid for most of it!).  I will let everyone know whatI think of them in a few weeks after I get adjusted to them.Smile

Hey gang.  Bbest result possible.  The tumor was benign!  No cancer.  It is though to be a bowel obstruction in the form of a walnut-sized cyst caused by an infection along the way.  No followup needed.  Bad pain becuase I am staying of the narcotics.  I have 23 years as a recovering alcoholic/addict and although the doctor is prescribing it, pain killers would only reawaken the beasts so I found with pain it's better to go through it short run than deal with the addiction-mentality later.  All is well.  2012 = at least one half IM.  Whoot! I go home this morning!

Ran in the Soldiers Half Marathon this morning..Goal was sub 2hr.. Unofficial time was 1:51:00.. I'm very pleased with this..This was actually my first half  mary without a bike prior..Garmin showed the course 13.25 with a 8:22 min/mile average...If I can keep this improvement going forward 2012 will be an exciting year for my triathlon season...

It was a good time even though start time was 34 degrees, that was a little chilly for a southern boy..lol

Hope everyone is doing well and has a great weekend..

Scott, great news!  So happy for you.

Tim, way to go on your half Mary.

Kathleen, good luck on the IM!  We're rooting for you.

Question of the day,

Does anyone have any recommendations on purchasing a bike trainer?  I would like to keep the cost under $100 and am looking at ebay for bargains.  Can anyone recommend a favorite model or brand or pointers on what to look for?

Thanks,

Hello All,

First off all, I want to thank all of you for your encouragement and well wishes. I am flying to Tempe on Wednesday and then I am sure it will be a whirlwind.  My number is 766 and can be tracked at http://www.myathletelive.com/  or Ironmanlive.com.   The athlete tracker will allow you to see where I am (and if I am movingWink) and Ironmanlive will provide my splits.. if it is working.

The weather report is suggesting rain but I am keeping my fingers crossed. My goal is to just finish within the time limit and of course enjoy it.  People ask me if I am ready.  I think I am ready to finish within 17 hours so I guess I am ready

I have purchased a neoprene swim cap and booties which I have tested out in the pool. I think they will both be a benefit to me. I do get hot easily but I am more worried about hypothermia as I will be in the water for quite awhile.

I really have no idea what I am going to experience out there on Sunday but I am sure it will be something I remember for a very long time.
