Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed I finished the cycling camp today, it was epic! Three days of "wrinkles" (hills) that have made me stronger. Next year I suggest you do it too. You don't need to be part of my triathlon team, it is only $150 and the town is lovely. |

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Question and recommendation: Has anyone experienced the following phenomenon with their Garmin HR strap? Middle of workout HR readings keep getting lower until they hover in 70's range and occassionally drop out all together. Changed battery thinking it was that. Using HR gel. Still having problem. Any thoughts beyond bed strap and time to replace? I purchased the Hanson's Marathon Method book per Jackie's recommmendation. I'm about half way through it and for the $10 download on Apple's bookstore it is well worh it. They are big proponents of lots of easy days spread over 6 days with workouts deemed Something of Substance (SOS) sprinkled in. Their plans, for those unfamiliar, follow a common pattern. Mon - Easy I'm following their HM plan and we get to see soon how the plan worked for Jackie - sounds like she's happy with it at the moment. Definitely think its a good and honest approach to the rigors of endurance running. |

Master 1780 Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed Question about recovery. After my HM, my calves are very sore and tight (going up or down stairs is not fun). I don't believe is any type of injury, as it feels like a muscle that was overwork (similar to the feeling you get after doing weights). Any recommendations to speed up recovery? I am planning to go swimming today, and maybe a few more swims and an easy bike on Sunday. |

My past HM's I have had symtpoms as described by Samy. Wondering if higher mileage and volume will lessen the discomfort during recovery after the race? I suspect not - as I'm assuming (hoping) spped will be faster and in the end the impact on muscles and body will be the same? |

You should notice an improvement Mitch, I did when I increased from HM to Full with faster per mile splits. Legs were tired for sure, but no where near the discomfort of my first HM (which I was under prepared for). |

I was reading elsewhere on here that someone was having problems with their HRM. They said it had to do with the shirt covering the HRM. Too much static electricity. Not sure if that is the case for you or not. I get the affect of my HRM jumping up when starting a run and I think it has to do with static electricity. On my trainer it seems when I lift up my left arm to mess with my computer for a new movie or tv show, it jumps as well. Strange as can be.

I am planning to go swimming today, and maybe a few more swims and an easy bike on Sunday. I'd go to a hot tub and put the jet against them and then do some light stretching. I also think that just an active recovery of walking would help you out as well. I know that after my first HM I was pretty sore to the point that I could barely walk but the following day I went for a 2 mile run/walk and that seemed to help get the blood flowing once again. I think swimming would be a great way to help speed recovery up. Just give things a few days and you should start to see improvements.
