Hi, All...

This may seem like a very stupid question.. sorry!! Does anyone know if there is water station at every mile on the run? and or any gaterade, etc?

This will be my first olympic distance and I am just trying to figure it all out - Thanks!

Leslie

not a stupid question

Last year they had plenty of water stations on the run - not sure exactly how often, it didn't seem like every mile but I was fine without taking any extra hydration

So the new (tentative) course maps are up. It looks like we'll have 2 separate transition zones, which is confusing. But still better to have the swim than not to have it. Also, on the bike course, as we go by Southwoods, it looks like the people ending the bike leg will have to make a left turn to turn into the school area, and go across others riding the other way. How do you suppose that will be handled? Do we just have to go slow and be careful, or is there some way a crossover can be worked in?

I talked to someone today that said that they were still "working that out".  They are talking about having that part of the road closed (it doesn't get used much anyway - and having you keep to the left until you merge onto Mills Civic Parkway as you head out and keep to the right as you head in, with a line of cones or steel gates to seperate the directions.

that makes sense to me and I see a lot of confusion if they do it another way.  Also, keep in mind, that they are saying the new courses are tentative and won't be finalized until the racers meeting.  I think that is where they will unveil it.

That's cool. Unless my thinking is off, there needs to be a crossover point somewhere unless they were to have us riding on the left side the whole way, which isn't likely. I'm trying to think of a place where there is an over pass or an off ramp to the highway that traffic could be shunted around. There may just have to be a "crossing guard" to make it so people can get from the left side to the right side without crashing into each other. It would be pretty bad to have a pileup of head-on bike collisions.

That is a great question. (tow transitions?)

This has turned into my first Tri since Copper Creek was stormed out. As if it being my first didn't offer enough potential confusion this has been one heck of a ride with all the changes. Any suggestions on how to handle all of this would be great.

I am excited, confused and ready to throw up all at the same time. =] Is this what being a triathlete is all about?

I'm in the same boat as you.  Copper Creek was supposed to be my intro to the Tri world, but now I'm being introduced in a much bigger venue.  I haven't gotten to the throwing up part yet, but I'm sure sure I'll experience that come race day

Best of races for everyone.  If you see anyone with Lagnar written on them with red & blue don't be afraid to say hello.

Especially the first time.  At my first tri (it was an ocean swim and we stayed in a condo on the beach) I woke up at 2 AM and just stared out the sliding glass window at the water (which I couldn't see, but let's forget that I'm not that smart).  When my wife and friends alarms went off and they got up, there I stood, looking at waves breaking 4 to 6 feet, all of my stuff packed up and ready to go.  Everyone just walked around and got ready like I wasn't even there.  My wife said I looked like I was in a trance.  the last person got ready and I just said - "Let's Go" and it was on, I was totally calm and did exactly what I practiced.  That's the secret.

You have prepared to run a tri.  Don't think yourself into a corner.  You know what you are supposed to do and you have already done all of the training that will do you any good at this point anyway.  Get in the cockpit and fly the plane.  You are trained.

As for the two transitions, you are obviously going to have to set both of them up with different things.  Make sure when you go through your checklist to pack for the race, you double up on the things you will want at both transition points (gels, extra water bottles, whatever).  They will be announcing the system that they will use to get racers form T1 to T2 and back at the race meeting and in the packet pick-up.  They will have to provide transport, because they are about 2 or 3 miles away from each other.  They have got a small army working on this race and they are leaving no stone unturned.  They will have instructions and best solutions set up for you.  Show up andd have fun is your job.  Good luck to everyone.

What should we do to signify ourselves as BT'ers.  Something simple.  At one race we did a green rubberband around our wrists.  that worked pretty well.  Anybody got any ideas that won't violate the rules?

Oh yeah - if you have the opportunity after packet pick-up - come here to post your bib number (are they posting them on the site before the race?).  Who is going to the expo and when.  We could meet there as well.  My wife is out of town this weekend, so my services as a tour guide/dinner partner are available.

I'll be wearing a hat that says Disturbed, just like the band.  But I agree, if we can find some way for everyone to identify themselves that would be cool

Sounds like you're all in for a great race: good weather, cool swag.  Be safe and have fun!  Oh, and take good mental notes 'cause I'm thinking about doing this race next year.

I am #1119.  I was planning on writing BT ROCKS on my arm or leg (will that violate the rules)? And maybe my username if I can squeeze it in.  I am easy to spot in my gross, old wet suit. It's blue.  Not to many people in blue wet suits.  On the bike/run I am in all pink/black..... Bike, tri suit, black visor with ZOOT in Pink on the run.
