I've tried on the Giro aero helmet. It seemed to fit well enough and has large vents at the front. I'll do more looking around before making the purchase. Do you train in your aero helmet? Or use it just for races? TJ |

I will also do the 4 mopac time trials here that take place over the summer 8 mile loop once per month and will wear it then along with my aero wheels (gotta get my moneys worth). |

Ha ha, pretty funny, but kind of true. Well, I'm slower one of the group, so I won't be much of challenge. I did the mopac time trial with both helmets last year. Granted each day's weather was different but my fastest time was with my aero helmet. But for the most part i would have to say I feel faster in it. From the testing i read it does provide a benefit, marginal but it does provide some benefit, when you compare it to other items (wheels $$$$) it is a really cheap upgrade. But as I always say could definately get more time in the saddle and increase the engine. I personally like alot of toys, this was another one, for me I feel money well spent |

A buddy of mine ( jwithyco, on this sight) is driving up with me. He is doing IMAZ this weekend (shooting for 10hrs or less). Race should be a blast and can't wait for the hills, heat, wind - great combination of fun |

The Rudy Project looks like a very good value. Spiuk makes an awesome one, but it's a little pricey. BTW, I'm (& wife) going to Lubbock on Friday and leaving Monday, also. I haven't made hotel reservations yet, but plan to next week. Any recommendations or are y'all staying at the host hotel? |

I'm doing the same- arrive Friday, leave Monday. Last year the awards banquet on Sunday night was nice. All the pros were there, pretty cool. Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok- low 40's driving rain and wind will kick off the Boston Marathon....big Nor'easter blowing through. I ran in it for an hour yesterday which was unpleasant. A little windy sometimes, typical Texas heat, but nothing radical. Thusly, I have no war stories on this subject. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() All of my races have been in relatively good weather. The worst conditions for me have been the heat at BSLT and at Prairie Man. At Prairie Man I became so overheated and over reached on intensity that my digestive system shut down. So, everything I tried to drink on the run went right through me - diarrhea. I went out too hard on the bike, then tried to run fast in the heat. Moral of the story - Take it easy on the bike and so you have something left for the run. (I ended up 5th in my AG even with the problems). Did an Oly in Las Vegas, NM (that's New Mexico not Nevada). The elevation of Las Vegas is 6,400 feet. The altitude got to me. I was only there one day before the race and didn't have time to acclimate. It was a slow race for me because I couldn't get enough air. TJ |

In training last year for BSLT, I switched the time for my swim and run training so I could get my long run in after work when the temperature was 90+. I needed to acclimate to running in the heat instead of at 5 am in the relatively cool morning. With humidity your sweat doesn't evaporate very fast. If your sweat isn't evaporating then your body isn't being cooled. At every aid station on the run I dump cold water on my head, down my back and down my shorts (large arteries on the insides of your thighs). Sometimes I put ice under my running hat. Wet sponges stuck under your tri top near your armpits help cool your blood. If the race doesn't have sponges, bring your own. A wet towel under your running hat. I've done all of these to help stay cool. All of this means running in wet shoes, so be prepared for that. And, of course, drink plenty and take in electrolytes. TJ |

I live a bit more south, closer to the coast than TJ and Jamie and I deal with the humidity a LOT. Can't think of any huge ideas other than be ready to sweat buckets. The higher the humidity, the less evaporation there is, so you'll be drenched. Because of this lack of cooling effect, there can be a higher tendency for heat casualties. The standard routine of hydrating well and having practiced this during training will pay off on race day. You might want to experiment with different types of electrolyte supplements such as Nuun and Endurolytes. Your idea of training in the mid-day is good because you aren't shying away from the realities. You'll be prepared for it physically and mentally. I changed to a specific style of running sock made by SmartWool because my regular training socks got super soaked with sweat and were squishing badly on the long runs. If you're a heavy sweater on the bike, you "might" consider changing to fresh pair of socks before the run, or bike without socks and put some on in T2. It will cost you some seconds, but it might pay off at the end. Again, you can nail this down during training. JK |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I tried to mimic that swim stroke a bit over the weekend - good stuff! OK - need some advice: My HIM is July 1 and starting to increase my mileage on the bike. Swim is in good shape and so is the run. I am feeling good but am getting nervous that I have not logged the 3 hours rides on the bike... Given family constraints my bike workouts have been limited to 90 min rides. I am calling in the "hall passes" with the wife for May so I can get to the right level before a June taper. My workout days are Tues/Thurs/Sat (double) and Sunday. Any suggestions on a bike focus? Hoping to finish under 6hours... Thanks for listening! |
