Well, hmmm. I guess I could die and no one would pay attention Tongue out

Reposting from earlier... this weeks' "Why I am Thinking of Quitting Race" muse:

This is not a 'poor me' post, I'm actually in quite a good mood.

It just this simple - I can get somewhat better,  but its going to take a ton of work and I'll still never be very competitive or fast, and I can 'look good' without killing myself to get ready for these races. I simply want to ride my bike and not feel pressured to go out and run all the time, or feel like 'one of these days I have to get into the pool'.

I've raced less and less starting with 2006 being the most (although most of those were 5Ks and I could easily just ride and do nothing but 5Ks). But what's the point of staying active on a tri site if you're not interested in doing what it takes to do them well? For what some of these races cost, these are a lot of nice weekends relaxing at the beach or at a hotel.

Plus, I really feel like I'm neglecting my guitar and my writing.

A good friend of mine was feeling this same way about 2 years ago....he had just done IM FL and IM AZ back to back and just lost interest in the training.  He actually has stopped.....sorry cant type that Q word...not in my vocabulary.  But he doesnt race at all anymore but still works out and stays in decent shape.  He took on a new job of as a med flight nurse and that I am sure consumes him.  If you need a break from it just take a break but you still have to stay active around here so we can keep in check with what you are up to.  Play that quitar and post some more you tube videos....we'll watch them Smile

I thought you might say that after returning from lunch.

Do what makes you happy. But you don't seem to know what that is--nor do I, frankly, but there's a peaceful acceptance of the fact that I have no idea what makes me happy, so I just do whatever seems right at the time.

So....what are you saying?  That you're done posting on BT?  That you're done racing?

You do what's right for you.  And no one here can tell you what's right for you, other than yourself.

If you want to take some time off, then do it.

OK, I'll bite.......

Life is full of phases.  I USED to live for beach volleyball.  Then it was MTN biking, then it was this, then it was that.  Now it's triathlon.

I'm assuming some day I won't want to do it anymore (that would fit my track record).  It's ok.

If you want to do other things, do them.  What ever makes you happy.  Don't do tri's if you aren't happy with it.

Plus, I'm not going to try to talk anyone into something they don't want to do....

Just be happy man....  Maybe since you had some other significant chages in your life, this is just a continuation of that.....

I hear you on this Yanti.........I get in those moods where I wish I could figure it out.....but like my necklace states....."If I change this pace I may fall out of routine and into myself"  I keep that philosophy alot of the time.

I dunno. I feel like if I don't, I won't work out as hard and I'll lose everything I've gained. Its weird. I don't even know WHY at this point I'm bothering to race, because I'm really not having fun.

Then DON'T DO IT.

You said before you don't need to train that much to look/feel good.  So then who gives a fig if you're training enough?  Define "enough" anyway.

If you hate to race, then don't race.  If you just wanna tool around on the bike and jog around the neighborhood, then do that.  Maybe you'll find the joy of doing stuff FOR YOU, and for others.

Speaking of straws - I don't like them.  They are just plane silly and should be outlawed.

It's a VOLUME thing.  If I'm thirsty, I can't get enough fluids at a rapid enough rate.  First thing I do when the server brings me a soda with a straw?  Throw it on the table.

Now, if you are talking Bubble tea straws, that's a different story.  Extra large diameter allowing a MUCH higher flow rate.  I lof bubble tea straws.....

Well, there are sea lions swimming in the Sacramento River right now and that's kind of nice to watch... which we did at lunch.

I have some unresolved issues that I won't bore TAN with that are driving my urge to race somewhat.

They better not involve some stupid hairy gorilla.

I have to use a straw while out to eat.......I've seen how they clean dishes in the kitchen!

Elixir of the gods ... with a dessert in it!

Also known as boba tea ... it is sweet cold tea/juice, sometimes with milk, that has these yummy round little gummy things in it, soft on the outside, denser in the middle, delightfully chewy.
