hey since we're already talking about cycling, let's talk swimming too.  i was at the pool this morning, my pool has about 16 lanes and every single lane had someone in it, maybe 6 lanes only had one person, the rest were already sharing.  i just watched for someone to come up for a break and asked him to split the lane with me and it was no big deal, but is it OK to just jump in and start swimming?  some people were doing flip turns and very long sets (which i do when i have my own lane).  how do i butt in if i can't actually say "hey i wanna swim in your lane?"

i'm sure i could find this in tri talk but don't feel like searching.

PS it was my first swim in MONTHS and it was an effortless 800 meters.  i love the pool

I usually sit on the side of the pool in the lane I want to share and put my feet in the water.  That way they can see me.  If that doesn't work, get in and stand at the end of the lane.

Spokes - 2009-02-09 9:21 AM

Good morning sportsfans.

I have decided that I am *totally* disinterested in competition this year. Its all about staying in shape and losing weight.

I may not even go down to the Prologue on Saturday. I'm probably one of the few in America that doesn't care for Lance Armstrong. The guy is really no different than your average NBA player in the way in which he conducts his personal life. Yeah, he survived cancer, and he's won the TDF 7 times, but I don't think he's a very nice person at all.

i pretty much agree with your take on lance.  i'm impressed by what he's accomplished, but beyond that i don't know if i care.  same with any athlete/actor/whatever.  i look to people in my real life to be my role models and mentors.

Yeah, I won't be tip-top, but I should fare respectably. It's my first-ever real cycling race and all.

Spokes, I'd go to see a major cycling race in my area, not just for L.A. They stole away our Tour de GA.

Hi TAN. I'm tired and therefore grumpy.

Meh, you should ask or at least let them know you're jumping in, otherwise collisions might happen.

Yeah yeah yeah ... I hadn't a place to sleep or I would've been there. And it was too cold to camp, even though I have a sleeping bag that's rated to zero.
