Since I don't know Augusta if there is a very special place that everyone raves about by all means the 5 mile rule is out.  I want to make it memorable for me (great race) and my wife (speeping, no yelling kids, no dogs, and nice dining).

Rusty Ironman - 2009-08-23 6:50 AM There is definitely an affect of the river current on the swim. Two elite triathletes swam most of course up river then back down. A good swimmer took 37 plus upstream; making no progress against current at all near bridge. Downstream he was 23 minutes. Don't let them tell you the current has no affect.

I totally agree...the current was crazy fast yesterday. I wonder if all the rain we got this past week had something to do with it? Usually when we get a lot of rain they release water from the damn out of the lake. Maybe the week before Augusta we will get a good bit of rain

First time posting......

Anyone know much about Aiken. We are staying there and was wondering about the area. We will be spending most of our time in Augusta. Still looking for hotel in Augusta to get closer.

Looked at wave start times.....what's up with the 40 year olds starting so late. Are we statistically the slowest folks. I am a moderate swimmer so doesn't bother me. You fast guys may have to work your way through some folks.

Aiken is super cute--but, it is very quiet downtownon Sunday, so if you want to go eat somewhere after the race, you are better off eating in Augusta.  But, if you come in on Friday or Saturday, the downtown in Aiken is much nicer (though, tiny--like three blocks) than downtown Augusta.

steveseer - 2009-08-21 9:54 PMJust looked at the weather for tomorrow morning.  Not looking good, I'm not going to chance it. Driving in the rain and dark isn't my thing...  If you guys do this every weekend, perhaps I'll try again.  Sorry for the late notice.

the weather was storming, lightning, thunder, wind, waves in river.....roads was slippery wet....you missed a good one

Dude- you missed awesome riding weather.  Besides it being a tad bit windy it was perfect weather for a long ride.  The weather prediction was totally off- no sign of rain whatsoever

i was just thinking that the blue laws had been repealed...so scratch my comment...should you finish the race before noon on sunday, you can go across the river and buy beer.   or just stash some cans of beer along the race course the night before.

Thanks for the information. So I should probably keep my room in Aiken then??? I live in Alabama, so I am familiar with blue laws and dry counties. My county is still dry and will be for the foreseeable future. Not a big deal, I don't drink much and am a lightweight....lol.

What are you guys looking at as finish times and what are cut-offs. I will be starting towards the end waves and was wondering what time they shut it down etc. I've done an Ironman, Oly and a quite a few sprints. Looking for an idea on pacing / dosing out the effort. I am not gonna break any course records, I should be a solid MOP. This will be my first Tri since coming back from injury.

Im kinda bumbed the 40 yr olds start soooo late. Whats up with that? My wife is in the LAST wave and now we can kiss the after party at the Marriott good-bye, (4pm). Also ALL equit/bikes need to be OUT of transision by 5pm. That was posted BEFORE they lefted the cap and let another 1300 enter. They need to move that to 6pm to let the 9am start people have a change to finish, get some after food (if any will be left) and make their way a mile back to transision.
Nothing like rushing around just after a 6-7hr effort.

So if the cut off time is 8 hours from your wave start, how will officials on the run course know when to pull people if they are over the 8 hours?  Unless we have different colored BIBS or something??

I have 2 super fast friends who are in the F40-45 AG.  My goal for the race is for them not to pass me becuase that would mean I'm having a bad day given I start a lot earlier than them

is it really an 8 hour cut off from your own start wave?  or do they just enforce an 8 hour cut off from the last start wave?
