Hey Keith,

You going to have the live video like you had at Lonestar? My family LOVED that. My mom spent most of the day sitting in front of her computer in Florida watching the coverage.

SWEET! For those that don't know what I'm asking about, at the Lonestar races in Galveston this past spring Keith set up a some cameras at the swim start, a couple along the run course, and one at the finish line and streamed it live on the web all day, including audio.

WOOT!

On a seperate but somewhat related question...
What will in/out access be like for spectators during the race.  Living here in Austin I have a lot of friends who plan to come watch but probably won't want to sit there the whole 8 hours (most will probably just show up late and miss the swim since they're a bunch a drunks who'll be sleeping off hangovers lol).  Will there be access for them to leave and come back?

VERY easy access in/out of the Expo Center. It's another reason we moved the finish. Getting in/out of Decker Lake was next to impossible during the race. Now, it'll be easy. Plus, lots of stuff for spectators, lots of food choices, activities, and more.

We'll have buses for athletes and spectators in the AM to see the swim, then buses to take spectators back to the Arena/Expo Center following the swim.

If they want to come later, they can just drive to the expo center.

According to the official website, there are only 200 spots left. If you have not registered already, better hurry up! Spread the word!

I just got an email from the Longhorn folks. I'm not posting all of it, but for you fence sitters:

ONLY 125 SLOTS LEFT
If you have friends who are on the fence, it's time to make the decision. Only 125 slots left for the race!!!

Question about transitions:

I understand the need for the clean transition from SWIM to BIKE- those bags need to be transported.

But why do we need to stuff our helmet and bike gear into a bag to make T2 'clean'? Aren't we just picking up our bikes where we finish?

Please, PLEASE give us large bags!!!!!! Really, really large bags!!!! It is sooo hard to stuff a soaking wet piece of rubber into a tiny little bag- bigger IS better!   The bags that they hand out at IM events, like Clearwater, are too small to repack a wetsuit in, for example.

Now I must go practice the 4th sport in triathlon- transition bag re-packing

We're going to allow you to set up your spot at T1 with towel, etc on race morning. You'll just have to make sure you stuff it all back into the bag before leaving T1 so we can transport it. You're more than welcome to put your helmet on your bike, or on your towel, etc.

Same with T2....it's fine to leave your stuff out, if you want

The bags are BIG...

We're doing this so we can easily transport your stuff back to the Expo Center/Arena, so you don't have to go back to Walter E. Long Park. We're NOT doing this to create a big hassle for you. Trust me, this is WAAAAAAAAY more work for us to do all of this. We need box trucks, 2 crews for 2 different transition areas, etc.

BUT, the reason we're doing it is to make the race MUCH better for you. No walking back to your car after the race, air conditioned finish with an incredibly unique finish.

It'd been much easier for us to just leave it the way it was. But we want this to be a great race for YOU. The idea is NOT to make it more difficult for you. I really don't think it will be, but it sounds much more complicated than it is

Thanks for the response!!!! I do understand why it's necessary for T1, and that it's for our convenience, not yours   I appreciate that we don't have to clean up 2 transition areas- we had bag transportation in Kansas, with 2 Transition areas, and it wasn't a big deal.

My original question though, is do we have to RE-pack our bags in T2? I know we can leave stuff out BEFORE the race, but when we are changing out to running in T2- why does it say we have to put our helmets and bike shoes in the bag before leaving T2? Nothing is being transported from T2, is that correct?

OK, I know I'm being OCD here, but do you have dimensions on the bags?

Hey Keith
How does the Aquabike finish up?  Do I just end up in T2 and it's over?  Or is there a separate finish to it?

KEJ - 2009-03-13 7:27 AM There's a huge covered/fenced area for T2 to rack your bike (we'd do bike handlers, so you wouldn't re-rack your bike, like Kona) and you'd grab your bag to put your running shoes on, etc in the changing tent.

Is having bike handlers still the plan, or are we going to rack our own bikes in T2?

Also, is T1 going to be in the dirt/grass like The Couple's Tri, or will T1 be in the parking lot/boat launch area? I remember there were burrs in the grass (and in my feet) at the Couple's.

Thanks!

Cool

To answer one of my own questions, I see now the updated map for the T1 area is the same place. I can handle the longer run, the rocks and the burrs no problem. Its just nice to know what to expect ahead of time.
