No I have never had one.

That's how my stress fracture was diagnosed.  They inject you with a tracer, you wait an hour, then have the scan.  The tracer gets picked up by active bone cells (like at a fracture site) and it lights up on the screen.  Docs can tell if it is healed or still healing that way.

That's what they did after it was diagnosed and it didn't heal right away.

I second that. That's the exact same way mine was diagnosed. The first 2 times I went to the doc they didn't find anything. Walked on it for 6 months before I got the real diagnosis.

That is so awesome -- we now officially have the geekiest BT mentoring group ever.

Quite possibly.  It's great.

I made it to the gym again today - yeah!  three for three.

I'm not sure what tomorrow will bring.  I usually walk my dog for 45 minutes on weekday mornings but it is supposed to rain.  If it rains, maybe I'll go to the gym before work.  Tomorrow is our Christmas lunch (really small office) and I don't plan to go to the gym after that.

Sorry I can't add to our geekiness.  I have a cool job though.  I work for an Egyptian tour operator so I travel to Egypt once or twice a year.  I work part-time and have the holiday time and summers off

Alright...been absent for a couple of days...both in the group chat and the gym.  I'll be headed to the pool tomorrow to re-introduce my body to swimming.  I REALLY enjoy the swimming part of the Tri and have been considering the possibility of joining a Master swimming club to help build up my speed and endurance...Anybody have any experience in doing both a club and tris??

Note about the "nerd flag"...I might have most of your beat...I'm a Professor of Chemistry at a local college here in southeastern VA

I'm enjoying the group and everyone is certainly inspiring me kick myself back into shape...so...THANKS!

I have a huge personal library...some 1500 books...and nearly all of them are cataloged on my computer.  Does that get me in?

Good luck with the swim tomorrow!!

So, is your college part of your username?  I'm curious which one you are at.  If you don't want to say, you don't have to.

Hi!

I used to be able to go on BT several times a day but Big Brother is definitely watching us now so I try to limit myself to a little time during my lunch. Oh well.

Re: swim workouts: I usually swim twice a week but I rotate through three types of workouts: short and fast (sets under 400m), medium length at medium intensity (500-1000m), non-stop longer distance (1500 and up). I recently started doing 100m repeats which has taught me that if I increase my stroke turnover just a bit I can carry a lot more speed into the longer distances.

Taking care of husbands can be a big job.  At least, mine can be kind of a baby when he's not feeling well.

Hope he's on the mend soon.

I think all men are like that (sorry to the guys in our group).

TRIMAN413 - 2009-12-17 7:38 AM Well I have my MRI today.  I wont know anything until next Tuesday though at my next appointment.  It was weird yesterday, it was actually kind of bothering me during my swim.  Cant quite figure that one out unless I was kicking too hard, which I dont think that I kick that hard.

Good luck with the MRI - I'm sure it's hard to wait until next Tuesday.

misfit_1 - 2009-12-17 12:11 PM I'm signing up for my first race of the year...http://www.celebratelifehalfmarathon.com/?pg=home
1/2 marathon for $32.00 + a windbreaker! Cheap and nice schwag!

I'm signed up for a half marathon that same day - good entry fee on yours!

I think I fit in with the geekiness of our group as well.  I am a CPA, although I have been a stay at home Mom for the past two years and not planning on going back until the youngest goes to Kindergarten.

I actually got my workout in today, going out of town for the weekend, but going to try to find a way to get my long run in for Saturday.

That makes sense.  I have friends who went to both places.

I'm at VCU in Richmond.

Does anyone have any fun weekend plans?

I'll be driving to Wisconsin.  We are planning to leave early tomorrow and hoping to do the drive in one day.  Looks like snow might interfere with our plans - either the leaving or being able to do it in one day.  We'll get there eventually and we're pretty flexible about the time, so it will work out.

Good luck with your drive - I'm hoping the majority of the snow that's supposed to hit the east coast will keep pushing into the Atlantic.  My sister is supposed to fly in from Tokyo on Sunday, and it'd be nice if her flight wasn't terrible delayed.  It'd be nice if I wasn't shoveling all Sunday evening too! - but if I'm snowed in, I can spend the day on the trainer

Hey everyone - so what does it take to wave this "nerd" flag?? .... as a scientist I am not!  I teach accounting and multi-media in high school - but maybe I can be one by association.... my daughter is studing sciences at university --- does that get me in?? lol!

Not much up for the weekend - a couple of workouts and just trying to finally get ready for Xmas as I have hardly started- yikes!

Have a safe drive Jen.  Luckily our cold snap of -40C has broken up north of the boarder and it looks like we are in for a fairly decent week coming up!  (at least it will be nice for us! Smile)

Accounting? Yeah, that should get you in!

I flew my freak flag this morning by trying out my (first ever) one-piece tri suit at the pool. Compared to the times when I've used a wetsuit this is probably pretty tame. At first I was thinking that I wasn't feeling sleeker in the water but then I realized I was comparing the feel to my bathing suit when the right comparison is to a two-piece tri suit; definitely feels better in the water than a separate top and bottom.

I pretty much blew myself out with 100 repeats. I've been doing them on 2:05 and staying comfortably under 2min/100 so I started today on 2:00; same sorts of splits but less/no rest. Hard!

Ok - so pools don't really care if you go in with a wetsuit...they may just look at you funny?

No, the pool doesn't care but it definitely brings funny looks. Surprisingly, nobody ever comments on it.

Sounds about right.

Make sure you rinse out the wetsuit REALLY well with cold water after!
